Live performance by Eric Carbonara and Alexander Turnquist

Guitarist/composer Alexander Turnquist uses his 12-string acoustic as his main tool in creating dramatic, emotionally engaging music with an experimental approach from the onset. Alexander Turnquist's latest disc, "Like Sunburned Snowflakes" focuses on intense guitar-harmonics wafting over you in minimalist waves. Guitarist Eric Carbonara take a slightly more traditionalist approach to his playing, incorprating Roma-Flamenco styles but infuses the music with noise & electro-acoustic elements. The Paradise Abyss is Eric Carbonara’s newest album, a solo effort written on a friction peg flamenco guitar. Both Turnquist and Carbonara were slatd to play Pete's Candy store in Brooklyn with David Copenhafer that Monday night.

Has anyone scored any Russian meteorite fragments on e-Bay yet?
Avatar 12:06pm
kat330:

Bon chance, Sem! I finally was able to put the paperwork nightmare behind me last Thursday.
Avatar 12:08pm
kat330:

@Sean: It will be a nice surprise if Van shows up. It's a federal holiday over here, so most of the U.S. daytimers on the lists are not at their commenting desks.
Avatar 12:08pm
Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

For godsake, don't touch those meteorite fragments. You'll turn into a photosynthesizing fiction author that cannot self-edit to save his life.
Avatar 12:09pm

@Ken: Was going to, but then after doing our taxes last week, found we didn't have an extra $100k to spare. ;)

I imagine anyone remotely interested in the meteorite has already seen enough, but just in case not:

Hi Everybody! Getting set for some live music at about 1pm. Kat, thanks for the meteorite pic. Pretty astonishing that nobody was killed!

Currently wearing our FMU swag-shirt -- the lovely green with turntable. Feels very nice.

Say, did anyone else catch the nominated short animation of Maggie Simpson in "The Longest Daycare" last night (or before)? What a super sweet and delightful bit of craft!

Avatar 12:54pm
kat330:

@Mike: Errrm, actually, I sort of co-opted this one. Philo got the last one, and this was to be his as well, but it's so damn up-my-alley, colorwise and logowise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

@kat330 - Yes, I saw the short. It was pretty good. I liked Baby Gerald's "instant art" and the surprise plot twist at the end.
Avatar 12:55pm
Sem Chumbo:

@kat330: yep, Canadian taxes. US filing looks considerably more detailed, but we would kill for mortgage interest deductability here.
@glenn: CRA offers rewards for fingering tax cheats.
Avatar 12:56pm
kat330:

Heh, thanks again, glenn! How appropriate for my zodiac+Vietnamese "Year of" signs combined. And there is (was?) a sound studio over in Louisville called RamCat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Ike:

Kat, I caught most of that while waiting for Bob's Burgers (a hilarious show). Very graceful. It's a golden age for animation. Most people wouldn't believe it, but a cartoon called Adventure Time might be the best thing on TV... that is, if you like David Lynch-ian surreality mixed with comedy, tragic backstories, suspense, a bit of romance, and fart jokes.
Avatar 12:57pm
kat330:

@Ken: Well, we won't discuss any spoilers, but yeah, just a nicely spaced number of sweet surprised throughout. :)

Just back from doing my shop at Tesco's, the chore was definitely made bearable with your show playing in my headphones, technology, marvellous, I get my groceries whilst listening to you 3000 miles away
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

@kat330 - Also, when tomorrow arrives, the meteor video will have the date in its URL:
apod.nasa.gov...
Thanks for mentioning that a bit ago.
Avatar 1:02pm
kat330:

@Sem: Yeah, well the mortgage interest deduction has never been something I could take advantage of, so I'll take the CRA regs over the IRS any ol' day. It simply should not be so complicated. I happen to be able to do our taxes myself, but not without considerable reading and research beforehand.
Avatar 1:03pm
kat330:

Oh, thanks, Ken! Yeah, I was trying to figure out what the URL will be in the future, but the usual method -- clicking on the image -- didn't work as it is a video.

Avatar 1:07pm
kat330:

@Ike Thanks for the info! Is Adventure Time on broadcast TV? We don't have cable and limited non-broadcast access through Hulu and Crackle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
Mike East:

I just heard about Adventure Time from my niece. I'll have to grab the dvds for my kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Ike:

Nah, it's cable. Cartoon Network. And they seem to require a cable subscriber password to watch it online. But the first Google result, though perhaps not on the level, is usually very helpful.
Avatar 1:13pm
kat330:

TY again! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
Ike:

The earliest episodes are more kid-oriented. Unlike most cartoons, as the (kid) voice actor playing the main character has aged, the character has also aged. And the show has matured, and gets progressively more bizarre, romantic, and occasionally terrifying.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm

bob brainen played an excerpt from "It Came From Beneath The Sea." I asked what "It" was but didn't get a good answer, so I googled and found out. My avatar is what "it" is.

Bears repeating here, I still would like to favorite a particular set within a DJ's show. Anyone else feel that would be useful? For e.g., like a star to click right next to "Live performace by ... " I'll write to Kenzo about it if there's interest beyond myself.
