Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:05am Sigurdur:

3 and unusally highj
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:05am Mary Wing:

Ha ha ha! New Lush would be more awesome than new MBV!
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:06am Rusty Knuckles:

All that's missing is my mom coming in my living room to tell me that music has died...
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:06am Andrew Waterloo:

Bonsoir
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:06am JV:

God bless fmu for helping me through this insomnia. MBV def has a new sound...
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:07am Gary B:

Lush isn't awful, just not MBV!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:07am Andrew Waterloo:

how come this music only has background singing?
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:07am Rusty Knuckles:

Ohhhh. wowwwwwwwww............................
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:08am Chris M.:

hey welcome to the listening party everybody!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:08am Andrew Waterloo:

I just can't wait till tomorrow afternoon when I get a bit of volume on the speakers
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:09am Gary B:

Right back into the fold with a wall of swirling guitars. I nearly cried when I heard this.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:09am Rusty Knuckles:

Soooooo tastyyyyyyy......
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:09am Chris M.:

i'm playing this CD through a boombox on the other side of the room.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:09am Congolia:

Do we have to listen to the whole thing?
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:10am Morten Denmark:

Great opening track
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:10am Sigurdur:

ha ha haha haha
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:11am Yair Yona:

this is how you start a show
Sun. 2/3/13 3:12am dan in Falls Church VA:

I just downloaded the hi-res after ordering the vinyl and I was gonna save it for tomorrow when I can crank the volume, but so much for that!
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:12am Gary B:

Another great, 'Loveless' era track. Bilinda Butcher's vocals floating above the guitars.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:13am Yair Yona:

Great second track!
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:14am Cecil Cranky:

Can I be honest and say I always thought MBV were over rated, even when they were under rated? I bought Isn't Anything and Loveless when they came out and thought they were okay. Nothing life changing. I guess I just don't get it. This new material doesn't do anything for me. ZZZZ....
Sun. 2/3/13 3:15am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Chris, when I unzipped your download, the fresultant folder titled itself Winter - Daydreaming. Did that happen to you?
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:15am Gary B:

Dan, in NOVA too. I ordered the vinyl, CD and mp3 (no external DAC at home), before hearing a note of the album.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:16am Chris M.:

dan: what download?
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:17am Cecil Cranky:

I like the idea of having a listening party, though.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:17am Gary B:

@Cecil - I think a lot of people feel that way. But the influence on bands that followed them can be distinctly heard. Sort of like the Velvet Underground
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:17am Congolia:

I'm holding out for the Odd Vorggness edition.
Sun. 2/3/13 3:17am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Gary, yeah, me too, except I went for the 24/96 WAV, having ye olde DAC. A friend of mine is gonna split the costs with me and take the CD when the package arrives (after I make WAV and MP3 rips of it of course...)
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:17am Marmalade Kitty:

Apparently, Brian Eno said that their single Soon "set a new standard for pop", describing it as "the vaguest music ever to have been a hit".
-"The Guardian"
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:17am Sigurdur:

were listening
Sun. 2/3/13 3:18am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Chris, when I downloaded mbv from mybloodyvalentine.org!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:18am Sigurdur:

Or is it we are listening?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:19am tomB:

Glad to see they're still the Sonic Youth of Ireland
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:19am Gary B:

@chris My Mac tried to download the playlist as well when I clicked on it. I finally just went with the flash player, and enabled pop ups.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:19am Cecil Cranky:

@Gary: Do you really think MBV are for younger people now what VU were to younger people in the two decades that followed? I'm sincerely interested...
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:19am Chris M.:

@dan: i don't know, they sent me a promo copy on cd last week.
Sun. 2/3/13 3:19am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Gary, just earlier this evening, or last evening technically, Matt from Springfield (which in his case is Springfield VA) & I had our first WFMU NoVa micro-meetup! Where in NoVa are you?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:20am Yair Yona:

great third track
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:20am Cecil Cranky:

@MK: Yeah, that single is great. I still have that. I don't understand how it set a new standard for pop, though. ??
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:20am Gary B:

@chris @dan Nevermind. Who See's You sounds great loud...again, this could be on Isn't Anything...nothing revolutionary. Still very good though.
Sun. 2/3/13 3:21am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Chris, no shit!!! and forbade you from broidcasting til after release, perhaps? wow you have been way ahead of us
Avatar    Sun. 2/3/13 3:21am fleep:

First and third, compelling, second okay. So far.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:22am Hmmm:

then why all those tweets about MBV torrents?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:23am Sigurdur:

whats MBV>?
Sun. 2/3/13 3:23am dan in Falls Church VA:

oh no doubt some people are throwing it out into ye olde bitte torrents
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:23am Gary B:

@dan Herndon..in grad school at GMU. Not as much traffic where I live. : )
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:24am Congolia:

EMBARGO ON....WHO RUN WFMU???
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:24am Chris M.:

the most memorable thing about MBV has got to be the song titles!
Sun. 2/3/13 3:25am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Gary you wanna come to the next NoVa FMU micromeetup?
Sun. 2/3/13 3:25am Holly in NC:

I'm with Cecil, listening party is most excellent & heartwarming, almost refutes Lester Bangs' Elvis theory...
Full disclosure I am not a MBV fan, though :-)
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:25am ?:

illuminati
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:25am Gary B:

Many people don't like this track. It is different, but I think it will grow on you. (Is This and Yes) Sounds like Stereolab
Sun. 2/3/13 3:26am dan in Falls Church VA:

I think I hear an actual keyboard instrument, if so this is revolutionary!
Avatar    Sun. 2/3/13 3:26am Ike:

I dig this weird track a lot. It's hypnotic.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:27am Chris M.:

ROCKFACT: the keyboards on this track were played by Rick Wakeman of Yes.
Sun. 2/3/13 3:27am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Gary, many people don't like it, how many??? I spoze there must be a whole lotta tweetin going on
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:27am Gary B:

I can't wait to get this on vinyl. Hey, good info, Chris!
Sun. 2/3/13 3:28am dan in Falls Church VA:

Chris, you are sh*tting us!!!!! plz document!!!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:29am Congolia:

Patrick Moraz was supposed to play, but he had to supervise a kitchen remodel at his condo, and called Rick.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:29am Congolia:

I read that on a blog.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:29am Gary B:

*rimshot*
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:29am :

are you going to play whole mbv?
Sun. 2/3/13 3:30am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Congolia, I do not and will never believe a word you post here. ;)
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:31am Rock Dad:

Very dreamy. Like eating an icecream cone with the sunroof open. ahhh
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:31am Chris M.:

i don't know, should i keep playing this album? we're about halfway through. who wants me to keep playing it and who wants something different?
Sun. 2/3/13 3:32am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Gary b, did your MP3 download unzip to create a folder titled Winter - Dreaming?
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:32am Cecil Cranky:

YES, keep playing! Even if it's putting me to sleep haha
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:32am Gary B:

@dan - #mbv was trending worldwide for awhile on twitter. Still is on my feed. The overall mood of the people listening to the album is one of elation. I had low expectations and they were shattered into oblivion.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:32am Rock Dad's Son:

Dump this turkey.
Sun. 2/3/13 3:33am dan in Falls Church VA:

I abstain because I'm hoping I will actually go to bed soon
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:33am Gary B:

Chris, the album changes completely on side 2. Stick with it.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:33am b-s:

5 might be my favorite so far
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:33am Sigurdur:

my intrnet providers name is NOVA, if that means anything
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:34am Congolia:

I wish you were playing the lossless files. With all this compression, I can't hear the Chapman Stick that Shields has crowing about in the press.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:34am :

Chris M.
yes, pls keep playin :)) Thank you
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:34am tomB:

keep playing, I'll never hear it otherwise and it will be great to go in & out of sleep.
Sun. 2/3/13 3:34am dan in Falls Church VA:

Gary, yeah, I heard #mbv was doing higher numbers than the superbowl
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:35am Gary B:

@Dan - No, it is: my_bloody_valentine_m_b_v_MP3_320
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:35am b-s:

My biggest gripe this fdar is that it isn't as LOUD as the other stuff
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:35am kurometarikku:

all mbv all the time, then more lush
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:36am Gary B:

I actually saw a guy playing a chapman stick when I was in West Virginia last march. That was different.
Sun. 2/3/13 3:36am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Congolia, it doesn't matter what files he's playing you can't fit a chapman into any of the streams
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:36am kurometarikku:

then some Curve
Sun. 2/3/13 3:37am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Gary, thanks, maybe they sent me a cryptic special message in the folder title because I'm so special
Avatar    Sun. 2/3/13 3:37am BadGuyZero:

@dan: #MBV was trending higher than "Super Bowl" on Twitter earlier: sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net...
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:37am Gary B:

So are you all insomniacs, working, or in a time zone where it is much earlier or much later?
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:37am ghost:

Kevin Shield's said that this song was inspired by when he bought a Sega Dreamcast. He never played a game on it he just admired the menu screen.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:38am Cecil Cranky:

Music to vacuum the house to...
Avatar    Sun. 2/3/13 3:38am Ike:

I agree with Kurometarikku.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:38am b-s:

Ok, I take back my LOUD comment. I take it track 7 is the beginning of side B?
Sun. 2/3/13 3:39am dan in Falls Church VA:

I don't think you can fit a chapman into the flash stream, good luck even with a jazzmaster, it's all about the bandwidth, you can't jam a fretless bass into an mp3 stream you need at least 16/44 for that
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:39am Gary B:

This song will surprise you. Suddenly MBV found drum and bass.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:39am :

BadGuyZero check out: now it's #2

@ghost, I find that to be an entirely credible story
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:40am Sigurdur:

I have to pass out now, respect and happiness to all
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:41am Chris M.:

i heard that Kevin Shields is only playing shortscales now
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:42am Congolia:

He's got tendonitis in his whammy
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:42am Cecil Cranky:

I'm sure MBV are also happy they're trending more than The Fastest Way To Lose Body Fat.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:43am Marmalade Kitty:

I prefer the old stuff, so far..
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:44am tomB:

Another Way: Bagpipe drones &marching drums. Big Country &early U2 for adults who have not repudiated their youthful obsessions.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:44am famopodo:

This is just a track from Reznor's Ghosts I-IV that Kevin particularly liked.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:44am Chris M.:

what's everyone's favorite track on this so far?
Sun. 2/3/13 3:45am dan in Falls Church VA:

I like this tweet: "I don't need a new MBV album because I just encountered a mens' room hand dryer whose volume was somewhere around 140db." from @andyzax, retweeted by ringo deathstarr if I recall
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:45am Sigurdur:

  Sun. 2/3/13 3:46am Marmalade Kitty:

I say -"Who Sees You" was spiffing! =)
Avatar    Sun. 2/3/13 3:47am Ike:

Dan, that's hilarious!
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:47am Cecil Cranky:

@Chris: I can't recall which track it was, but the one that sounded like a warped record was good.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:47am Chris M.:

Cecil: i think that was my favorite too
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:48am Congolia:

In all seriousness, I can't imagine listening to this album ever again.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:48am Gary B:

This is the song most everyone is gushing about.
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:49am jtre:

this is shite
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:49am Chris M.:

"Wonder 2" is dedicated in the liner notes to the cast of Little Wonder
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:49am Cecil Cranky:

Yeah, this one's good. I like the jet engine sound in the background, with the melodic lead instrument.
Sun. 2/3/13 3:49am dan in Falls Church VA:

it's better than Chinese Democracy
Sun. 2/3/13 3:51am dan in Falls Church VA:

@congolia, I swear you would love it if the stream had enough resolution to push kevin's chapman stick through all the intertubes!
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:51am coulomb:

I liked the previous track, "Nothing Is" quite a bit. "Wonder 2" less so. Thanks for playing, this was a fun surprise.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 3:52am Congolia:

I'm a big fan of "Loveless". This just does nothing for me.
Sun. 2/3/13 3:52am Holly in NC:

Thanks Chris. That was fun.

You stop being an alternative indie band when you start charging in excess of £15-20 /24-30$
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:53am Rock Dad's son:

this one should have been called "toothless"
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:53am b-s:

Was that like a fuzzed out drum and bass song or was it just me?
  Sun. 2/3/13 3:54am Cecil Cranky:

Thanks Chris...that was quite entertaining, even if most of the tracks bored me

b-s, listen to it through headphones. DnB plays a big part on the last three songs of the album. There are many, many, layers and textures to it.
