Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:08am Holly in NC:

Hi Joe! I guess the MBV fans are still occupied elsewhere ;-)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:09am Joe McG:

Hi, Holly! The My Bloody Valentine fans?
  Sun. 2/3/13 12:18am Chop Scott:

JOE! So nice to hear you tonight my friend! Always great company...Cheers!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:19am Droll:

HinNC. Oh crap! It's finally out?! It's been out for HOURS! I've wasted HOURS!
Great show JMcG, but kinda waited a few decades for this one. See y'inz later!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:19am Holly in NC:

Yes. But *no* diss implied - I love this crazy expectant nervous excitement over a record release, makes me super happy! Just not a MBV fan myself -or a hater.
Sun. 2/3/13 12:20am Listening Out There:

...This is the first time I've heard the program live...listening from Seattle...just a regular listener from the archives...
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:22am Holly in NC:

Welcome Listening Out There! Joe is super friendly, as are his other listeners :-)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:22am Joe McG:

Hey, Chop Scott! Nice to have you here. Hello, LOT! Hi and bye, Droll. You people don't think that that record is actually coming out, do you?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:25am Joe McG:

Holly's right, I'm super friendly. If I had a pie, I'd offer you some.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:25am Ken From Hyde Park:

Mmmm....pie!
  Sun. 2/3/13 12:26am 12539:

Did you say pie?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:27am Joe McG:

Can somebody send some pie over here? The diner is STILL closed.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:27am jeff-m:

love teh mix on this Ramsey Lewis track
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:27am fleep:

I just had pie. Apple. Really. But it was the last piece.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:29am Joe McG:

Damn! I like apple pie. Hey, Jeff!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:36am slugluv1313:

welcome to Listening Out There! enjoy enjoy enjoy!!!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:38am Holly in NC:

When I was little my Mum always made extra pie filling in a separate pan so I wouldn't have to eat the crust...now all I want to eat is the crust. Oh, life.

And yes, she cut the crust off sandwiches for me also. ;-) Love xo
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:39am Ike:

I said I would not believe new MBV exists until I heard it. Well, now I am listening to it (sorry Joe) and I can confirm that it exists. And it's gigantic. This may wake the neighbors.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:43am Joe McG:

Man, I wish I had it to play. I'd like to be gigantic.
  Sun. 2/3/13 12:44am Julie:

Joe, think you're the only one who doesn't have it at this point
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:46am Joe McG:

@Julie: Well, then, I'll make this a My Bloody Valentine free zone. Fuck them!
  Sun. 2/3/13 12:46am Nardo:

MBV ... pshaw. How bout some GBV instead?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:47am Joe McG:

Or some DMZ!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:48am Ike:

Stumpy? Are they anything like Stump?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:49am Joe McG:

Naw, Stump came much later. I think it hurt them that they didn't have the Y.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:52am Holly in NC:

@Joe +1
  Sun. 2/3/13 12:54am Marmalade Kitty:

MBV Gimmick releasery working.. $$$ in im sure!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:58am Ike:

I've tuned back in for the Cannanes. Love it. Even better than Spinanes.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 12:59am Joe McG:

Hey, b! Hey, Kitty! You're up late tonight! I can't believe I pulled you back, Ike. This Cooke and Moore may drive you back away.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:00am b:

Joe....Joe....Pete & Dud....bless you sir.....
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:01am Joe McG:

Ducks in all positions!
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:08am Marmalade Kitty:

I saw MBV in '91 for £6.. the current uk tour is £30..! I cant believe there show will be 5 times better than in 90-91
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:10am Joe McG:

@Marmalade Kitty: I don't think it's possible for it to be 5 time louder, anyway.
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:12am Marmalade Kitty:

Pay through the ears!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:12am Matt from Springfield:

All right, Rezillo Rock! G'evening Joe and Surface Noisers!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:13am Matt from Springfield:

@Kitty: Ha ha!
Maybe MBV has cloned themselves, and there's multiple copies of them on stage!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:14am Joe McG:

Hey, Matt, how goes it in Springfield?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:15am Matt from Springfield:

It goes great! And it also goes great in...Falls Church! Even though it was only with one other listener, we had a successful "micro-meetup" tonight! With myself and Dan in Falls Church!

www.flickr.com...
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:16am Matt from Springfield:

Hopefully more meetups and photos to come in that photoset!

Good Conchords! This will satisfy your KiwiCon requirement, too.
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:17am Marmalade Kitty:

Hi Matt! love these dudes :D
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:17am Joe McG:

Well, Matt, don't be discouraged. Big ideas sometimes start small.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:19am Holly in NC:

@Marmalade Kitty - MBV lp already leaked at multiple sites, so gimmickry got them $ for about.. 3 hours?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:20am Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: Like the Dave Edmunds song goes.
Hi Holly!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:21am Holly in NC:

Hi Matt!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:24am Matt from Springfield:

The Sapphires - they're new to me, but listen to that Dixie Cup quality!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:25am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe & lateniters.
MK are you going to see Yo La Tengo in Manchester?
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:27am Marmalade Kitty:

I think the -will they won't they ever get it on, is the gimmick.. lazy musicians! :)
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:30am Marmalade Kitty:

when and where they playing Brian? I'd love to see them!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:32am Yair Yona:

Good morning earthlings
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:33am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Oh, damn. The Cannanes filled my mind at Lowes (Lowe's?) the other day. Can't believe I missed the first I've heard of them on the air in years.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:33am Matt from Springfield:

What fantastic pop!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:33am Holly in NC:

Good morning, Yair!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:34am Joe McG:

Hey, Yair! Hey, Pete! Sorry you missed 'em!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:34am b:

joe..you do not disappoint! Dreams are ten a penny..what a great choice
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:34am Matt from Springfield:

YAIR! How are ya doin!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:35am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Poor First Class. They put out the best beach-pop song in years, and then the Beach Boys just go and incorporate it into their live set like no one would ever notice.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:35am Yair Yona:

Hey Matt! All is good here in the middle east, as much as the middle east can be good ;)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:35am tomB:

I'm all for John Carter, but 1st Class was a low spot. Check out the Ivy League, as well as the songs written by Carter & Lewis, done by Bobby Vee and Brenda Lee when they were smuggling themselves in with the British Invasion
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:36am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

And in Cambridge, Mass., the Middle East remains the anchor of local rock of all kinds.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:36am Brian in UK:

@MK The Ritz Thursday, March 21.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:36am Joe McG:

@tomB: I agree that the Ivy League is great, and I love the Flowerpot Men, but I think some of the First Class stuff is super, too.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:37am b:

I've had Dreams Are Ten a Penny banging around my skull intermittently for about 40 years now without having heard it for decades. Pretty darn good to be a "low spot."
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:39am Marmalade Kitty:

There you go see! YLT £17 baargain!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:41am Matt from Springfield:

@Yair: May the world be as good as it can be!

Peter & Dudley part ii!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:41am Brian in UK:

This was the original Flower Pot Men childrens programme can you spot the difference?
www.google.co.uk...

www.google.co.uk...
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:41am Marmalade Kitty:

are you going to see 'em Brian?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:42am Matt from Springfield:

I like the Flowerpot Men as well!
@b: Wow! Do you feel the sweet relief of finally hearing a catchy song again after all that time? :)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:43am Brian in UK:

Well, the London show is sold out I was a bit late out of the traps, MK.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:44am tomB:

@Matt: The Sapphires are even better with "Who Do You Love?" In the Motown vein, but a prehistoric Gamble-Huff production w Joe "Like a Rolling Stone" Macho on bass. I find the Boyce-Hart/DixieCups too light, but then I'm the contrarian here.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:44am Matt from Springfield:

Joe Tex! I figured it was him!
"You're nobody, until James Brown, pulls a gun on you..." ;)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:45am b:

@Matt...big time!
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:45am Sigurdur:

Hi!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:46am Joe McG:

Joe Tex makes me happy. Hi, Sigurdur!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:46am b:

Joe Tex can sell ANY lyric. He just proved it!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:46am Matt from Springfield:

Same goes for Phil Spector...

@tomB: I'd have to listen to more to compare, but definitely a great girl group. How does The Cookies compare for you?
@b: I wish you more to come!
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:47am Marmalade Kitty:

There are tics in mancs.. if you dare come up north :)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:47am Matt from Springfield:

Hi Sigurdur! - from Iceland?
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:48am b:

"Caviar and chicken blintzes"?! HA
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:48am Matt from Springfield:

"Doug Schulkind:
Hey, just think of the scratches on old vinyl as just an added percussive element!

Matt from Springfield:
@Doug: That's the highest praise I've heard for surface noise! (And I've heard pretty high!) Excellent!"
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:49am Sigurdur:

hey bro how you doing? im abit drunk and having agoood time , how are you/
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:49am Matt from Springfield:

For a '54 record, that's sounding great! Enough SN to date it but not interfere with the track!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:49am b:

Now remember, Joe, his last name is not Guthrie.....
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:50am Holly in NC:

@b +2 ;-)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:51am Joe McG:

@b: Ha ha! Yepper, I'll remember this time!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:51am Sigurdur:

matt
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:52am tomB:

@Matt: The Cookies can do no wrong. Earl Jean's voice and the group harmonies set a high standard. The Dixie Cup hits seemed a step down.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:52am b:

Oh, the polyester.......
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:54am Matt from Springfield:

@sigurdur: Doing mighty fine tonight! Always love the Single File!
  Sun. 2/3/13 1:56am Marmalade Kitty:

Thanks for the info, Brian!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:58am Matt from Springfield:

Love the *boom* of the bass after the percussion intro on Kevin Ayres--it means the guitar part will immediately follow :)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:58am b:

Another Single File has come and gone..and again no Peppermint Rainbow. Ah well, one can hope for next week. :-)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 1:59am Matt from Springfield:

A Peppermint Rainbow will shine in the middle of the night, when you least expect it!
  Sun. 2/3/13 2:00am meghan:

The mighty Joe McGasko!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:02am Yair Yona:

Speaking of Dudley Moore, I strongly recommend everyone to listen to his great soundtrack Bedazzled (our via Trunk)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:02am Matt from Springfield:

Aw rats! 'Nother episode of SN dancing madness in Studio A, remains uncaptured by a webcam!!

Hi there Meghan!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:04am Matt from Springfield:

"Joe McGasko's '38' Southern Rock Special!"
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:05am Sigurdur:

Hi matt sorry my internet fell down for some reason. Well anyways im abit drunk for the reason of some cultural food reasons.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:06am Matt from Springfield:

Saturday night/Sunday morning! Everyone else is! And hey, I see Iceland! :)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:07am Joe McG:

Meghan!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:11am Brian in UK:

You have Peter Cook on the home page picture sometimes in an old Morris Minor Panda Car (Police Car).
His work on Amnesty International comedy nights was very funny.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:12am Matt from Springfield:

Uh oh, I sense a mellow last hour coming up!

WOAH! Daniel Blumin live set, from a non-FMU Archive!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:12am tomB:

I think Yair's quite right about Bedazzled, but my hazy memory is from the original flick. What a hilarious devil.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:13am Joe McG:

@Matt: Daniel said I could! @Brian and tomB: "Bedazzled" is terrific and I love the music from that, too.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:13am Sigurdur:

hazzy is the magical word
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:15am tomB:

Tindersticks, the Tim Hardin of the 21st C. That's great! Thanks Joe for the rescue.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:16am Brian in UK:

The Leaping Nuns
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:16am Joe McG:

@tomB: Oh, you can thank Daniel. He promises to excavate more cool sessions from his olde radio show. I love Tindersticks.
  Sun. 2/3/13 2:17am meghan:

Just spent way too long looking for parking bit the bonus side was listening to you rattle paper! Hehe
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:18am Joe McG:

Oh, no! Jersey City has abominabbble parking. I love to rattle the paper right in the mic!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:19am Matt from Springfield:

"Tea & Symphony"!!! Love this comp!
I "won" digital tracks from this from Scott Williams' show last year!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:19am Brian in UK:

John Carter AND Graham Gouldman
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:21am Matt from Springfield:

I like that he makes coffee for "something to do", because I also do that sometimes. Before the Internet I can imagine that was even more potent.

You see, you still have nothing to do, but at least you're buzzed while doing it! :)
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:23am Matt from Springfield:

<plug> Except of course, on Thursday afternoons, Noon to 2--when you can be Busy Doing Nothing, with Charlie Lewis on Give The Drummer Radio! </plug>
  Sun. 2/3/13 2:23am meghan:

Yeah. I dumped the car illegally. I wasn't driving around for an elusive imaginary spot at this hour. Oh, play some new MBV so Chris M can't be the first!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:24am Matt from Springfield:

ROY!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:25am Joe McG:

@Matt: You can plug Charlie on my show any day! He's the best. @Meghan: No, I refuse to play those people!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:26am Sigurdur:

Haha fool me thrice welll anyyways i feel a sense of a sort of CALMNESS
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:26am tomB:

Geez, I thought I had every Orbisong. Well that's why we listen to radio. Thanx Joe again.
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:27am Joe McG:

You bet, tomB. It was his last single for Monument, btw.
Sun. 2/3/13 2:28am Holly in NC:

Yusef!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:29am Matt from Springfield:

A rather Beatnik-tinged Yusef Lateef number! Groovy man!
  Sun. 2/3/13 2:29am meghan:

It's your challenge to play more current music! Bosco says hi, btw
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:30am Joe McG:

@Meghan: I know! I'm failing miserably tonight with my New Year's Resolution. HI, Bosco!! Good boy!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:31am Joe McG:

This one goes out to Bosco!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:31am Sigurdur:

Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:33am Matt from Springfield:

For some reason I was really into playing Cat's "Where Do The Children Play" this weekend, several times. And I even found a cool version of it by R. Stevie Moore on his Bandcamp site!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:33am Sigurdur:

GOOD morning
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:34am Joe McG:

@Matt: Nice! Well, I played the Cat Stevens so you could hear how he ripped off Yusef Lateef. I'll explain later!
  Sun. 2/3/13 2:35am Marmalade Kitty:

Goodnight Joe Meghan & bosco & all! zzZZ calling!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:35am Matt from Springfield:

WOW - *this* version of "This Woman's Work"!
I admit he's a very skilled vocalist to sing it like this, but it feels...just a bit freakishly high, out of balance? Anyway, people liking Kate Bush songs is ALWAYS a great thing!
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:36am Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: Ah! I think the bass/rhythm of "The Plum Blossom" was inc'ed into "I Love My Dog".
Avatar Sun. 2/3/13 2:36am Julie:

I'm back and I missed the Kinks! Did you mention that today is Dave's birthday :)
