Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:05pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: I friended you already, but I could unfriend you then friend you again, if that will give you an ego boost.
  Wed. 1/23/13 12:05pm Dominick:

Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:06pm Amanda:

Luckily, we're all toasty warm inside WFMU today and so are the inner workings of the stream! (knock on wood.)

Hi everyone!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:06pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey LJFW! I drilled an ear trumpet into the thick ice, so I can hear the stream beneath it!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:08pm Brian in UK:

Hello Amanda, james & glenn
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:09pm glenn:

how many scenaristas does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:09pm Dervish:

The Scenario laughs at the puny weather. Blast away, Amanda!

Hello Amanda, james, glenn & Matt.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:11pm Matt from Springfield:

Have a ABBA!

Hmm, block of ice seems to be backlogging the playlist and comments, not seeing anything recent...
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:12pm Matt from Springfield:

There we go, a bigger log broke through the jam!

Hi Brian, Dominick, Dervish and all!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:12pm Brian in UK:

Amanda, dog walking in snow ain't fun.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:13pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: It would take at least 3: one to screw it in, Amanda to back-announce and sing along to the screwing in, and at least one other person to type a comment about it.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:13pm glenn:

Benny Hill! You know... Ozzy's dad.

Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:16pm Matt from Springfield:

You guessed its! I heart Benny Hill as well.
Sesame Street right after? You could have followed "Finger in your ear" with the Ernie "banana in my ear" sketch!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:18pm glenn:

the oatmeal knows all.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:18pm Brian in UK:

Benny Hill was the boffin in The Italian Job (original)
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:18pm Matt from Springfield:

Hear that instrumental background? That's the signature Joe Raposo sound, the music director from 1969 to his death in '89. RIP, not just arranging the music and composing some songs, Joe Raposo really "created" the conceptual feel of the original SS.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:19pm listener james from westwood:

shortly after moving from nyc to northern nj as a kid, i saw bob from sesame street at the movies. weird not to see him on my tv screen.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:19pm Doug Schulkind:

i watched it a couple weeks ago. and noel coward as the criminal mastermind. sublemon.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:19pm listener james from westwood:

^^^ true that re: raposo. one of those cases where the music is another member of the cast.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Great West-East fusion! No surprise coming from the marvelous Thai.
You said it, LJFW!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:23pm Rich in Washington:

Benny Hill was also the toymaker in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Also re: Bob McGrath - one of the few original cast members still alive, and still in the cast.

I was fascinated to find a first season clip of him on YT singing "Good Morning Starshine" with Muppets!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:30pm listener james from westwood:

i want to say that was the first celebrity i ever spotted in the wild.

Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:36pm glenn:

i think the stars for favouriting tracks should be replaced with hearts. that way, i can say i heart shambles(for example), and really mean it.
  Wed. 1/23/13 12:57pm SteveL:

Amanda: You might want to repost your Ike and Tina piece here. Very thoughtful, well written and just plain good. I enjoyed it.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:58pm Amanda Nazario:

I heart Shambles too. By the way, I hope it's appropriate for me to just go down the line favoriting all the songs I play each show...
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:58pm ndbob:

heya Amanda and everyone!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 12:58pm Stevel:

Ooh, signed in. Everything seems so much clearer.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:01pm ndbob:

Rich-R-Tone is a great label
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:03pm glenn:

it's your show, amanda. it's not inappropriate if you don't think it's inappropriate.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:06pm ndbob:

How do you friend people?
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:07pm Amanda Nazario:

My problem is that I frequently think something is inappropriate and then end up doing it anyway. Heh.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:07pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: You've got hearts in your eyes, even if there are only stars on the screen.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:08pm glenn:

click on their profile, then click on the star that appears beside their name.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:09pm glenn:

aw thanks, matt.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:09pm Van in DC:

Hope everyone is staying warm. Hi.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:09pm Matt from Springfield:

@NDbob: Click on a name to go to that listener's profile page. When you see a star by their name, click it and choose to friend that person. Any profile page that has a listener and star, you can click on as well (e.g. a song favorites page, or other's friends).
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:10pm G:

Raffi's infamous "Bananaphone" could almost be a hommage to that McGuires tune...
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:11pm G:

My gf was just telling me the other day how she had to learn this and other Andrew Sisters tunes for high school chorus in the early 80s in Norfolk, VA
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:12pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Anytime, pal.

Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:32pm Matt from Springfield:

No prob, glad to assist in the enjoyment of WFMU!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:33pm listener james from westwood:

that ike & tina article was, indeed, quite excellent. a rough issue, viewing art vs. the minuses of its creator (wiki "eric gill" for a toe-curling example). also appreciated the tweet urging folks to read the comments; aside from wfmu playlists and the av club, i avoid comments like ebola on toast.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:35pm Amanda Nazario:

@frenchee -- Oh, I believe it. Thanks for coming to join us!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:36pm Matt from Springfield:

Don't Train in vain, Amanda! Unless of course, you're going to Train In Vain later this set! :)

Excellent start to trains in any case!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:39pm ndbob:

@james @amanda agreed - excellent article
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:42pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Slick orchestra, Jack!

*not seeing any Jack(s) here, but somehow needing to refer to a Jack with this music*
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:45pm listener james from westwood:

this is one fine thrifting-expedition show. amanda should turn 'em loose at the full-scale record fair to see what they harvest.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:46pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you, James.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:53pm Skirkie:

Oh my. I heard "pizza and a bottle of beer." That's not it at all.
  Wed. 1/23/13 1:53pm Simon with a Z:

Just checking in and saying "Hi!" -- I'll have to listen to the whole show in the archives. Chores, you know.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:53pm Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: A good shopper can find pretty fine records at thrifty prices--I also like Clay Pigeon's "Flea Market Finds" - and likewise can't wait for a full scale Record Fair to unleash barrells of bargains!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:54pm Amanda Nazario:

Haha, James -- they would be hilarious there, I'm sure!

Hi back at you, Simon Z.!

Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:58pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 1:58pm Uncle Michael:

Question of the day: Do ethical people need to disavow great art when they discover the artist behaved monstrously and does the art get an asterisk? Hard question.
  Wed. 1/23/13 1:59pm Simon with a Z:

Bet that Bessie Smith had some powerful teeth!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 2:00pm Van in DC:

Thanks Amanda
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 2:00pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the music and the thought provocation Amanda.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 2:00pm Matt from Springfield:

Bye Amanda! Thanks for the spins!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 2:00pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Amanda!
  Wed. 1/23/13 2:02pm Simon with a Z:

@Uncle Michael -- The asterisk always exists in my head. I've been trying to deal with the Danny Kaye asterisk this week.
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 2:02pm Van in DC:

Funny, I had just happened upon this Bessie Smith photo just yesterday

images.fineartamerica.com...
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 2:02pm Amanda Nazario:

Bye, everybody! Thank you for all your kindness in listening and chitchatting!
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 2:08pm Amanda Nazario:

My answer to your QoD, Uncle Michael: the person should always have to get an asterisk. That goes for good things they do as well as bad things. Anyone in the public eye bears that burden, though I know many of them never asked for it. But the art itself, by its very nature, is free of that asterisk. It's a creation, larger than or at least separate from its creator.
  Wed. 1/23/13 2:11pm Simon with a Z:

Side note to Amanda: I'd like to send you a CD, if that's alright. The WFMU PO Box (c/o Amanda Nazario) OK?
Avatar Wed. 1/23/13 2:38pm Amanda Nazario:

Yep.
