Evening Dan, is this the Zendik Farm folks? If so I don't remember such cool sounds on the cable-access show they had in Austin back in the day!

Hi all. The Twins of El Dorado are coming up in about half an hour, and it should be good. @A, yes, that was the Zendik Farm folks. They had a cable access show? What was that like? Do you have any recordings of it or know where there are any online? |

Good grief, I missed the Zendik track. Haven't heard that stuff in 25ish years. Still have some of their old 'zines from that era. Weird...

BSI:
by the way, howdy. Rare treat to hear the Airborne Bodah live, in real-time...

@BSI, how's it going? Yeah, the Zendik stuff is weird, and sometimes good. I remember having their zines floating around back in the early 90s. Weird group. Wulf, the leader, died a while back, and his wife Arol passed away less than 2 years ago. Wonder what the Zendiks are doing with their already-diminished numbers now. |

A:
I don't remember too much other than Wulf (sp) and his wife talking about their ideas. This was early 90s, they had quite a presence it seemed like though, selling their wares, I want to say from a big crazy van. I haven't thought of them in years, but I did see some of them here in Chicago like 5-7 years back. I bet there's stuff online in "old weird Austin" type sites, gotta look...

BSI:
Yep, I remember the zendik musical output as the ultimate HIT AND MISS proposition. I found a copy of Wulf's novel "Bop" at a used bookstore in Tucson ages ago & picked it up for kicks.

The Zendiks support themselves primarily by using their most attractive members to sell their Art magazine (of which I've only ever seen one issue) and T-shirts on the streets of DC. There was a Washington City paper article written by someone who spent some time on their compound - apparently it's nothing but enforced polyamory, poorly managed attempts at farming, and World of Warcraft

The song was very good though. Looks like ol' Wulf has been dead a long time.
|
Mon. 1/14/13 9:34pm
BSI:
huh. That explains why I'd seen 'em around town over the last few years. Wulf's book is a hoot, I must say.

There's a long "FAQ" about the cult-perspective on Zendik at emeraldimajia.livejournal.com... Her blog is a pretty decent read. Wulf Zendik was born Larry Wulfing in El Paso, Texas. October 7, 1920 – June 12, 1999 per Wikipedia. His wife "Arol" was born Carol Merson, and died June 6th, 2012. |
