FACT: It is impossible to play AC/DC too loud.
Thu. 1/3/13 3:04am Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: Ah, I was wondering what "Ack/Dack!" was! Tracy Jordan accurately remembering Liz Lemon's "Cathy" like rant :)
  Thu. 1/3/13 3:05am other david:

@BGZ: Sweet imagery!
@OD: Here's a 20, bring a pitcher back while you're up there! No use in all of us trying to get to that bar!
  Thu. 1/3/13 3:18am other david:

@Matt: If I happen to get stranded & devour the pitcher... well, you were warned.

ON-J did not perform this when I saw her last month.

well this is my final comment,, best wishes in 2013 everybody, night all!!
Thu. 1/3/13 3:19am Matt from Springfield:

Dance club Olivia comes out with the Archies!

@FVH: I'm sick of these hipsters saying that! A chat board is cool because no one's "discovered" it yet, then once too many come they just move on to another! Already the "East-East-Williamsburg" fanboys are moving on to the Dangerous For The Brain playlist, rumour has it... :)

  Thu. 1/3/13 3:27am JTE:

why do people feel like the chat board is too crowded?
Thu. 1/3/13 3:27am Matt from Springfield:

I'm NOT gettin' back into bed! :D
Thu. 1/3/13 3:28am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I wish I could remember the name of the band that released a live album in the 90s that contained a parody of Paul Stanley's "Cold Gin" intro. They substituted names of over-the-counter cold meds for the types of liquor Paul mentions.
Thu. 1/3/13 3:29am fred von helsing:

ALISON!
Avatar    Thu. 1/3/13 3:29am Julie:

I like a busy chat board! It's been soo very quiet lately
Thu. 1/3/13 3:30am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Unmistakable voice.
Thu. 1/3/13 3:30am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: Mixing alcohol and DayQuil is like speed--I won't say to "try it, you'll see", but if you ever drink too soon after DayQuil, you'll know what I mean!

@BGZ: "Peyote Cabinets with Malarkey Angel" drops in summer '14--supposed to be the "playlist of the Decade"...
Thu. 1/3/13 3:32am Matt from Springfield:

Fortunate that everyone seems to be up right now! Appropriate too, since it's a dance party show!

Gary Numan!
Thu. 1/3/13 3:34am fred von helsing:

@MvS Hmm the active ingred in DayQuil... It might take a bit of sleuthing to find it here in scando... Wikipedia sez "phenylephrine due to restrictions on pseudoephedrine sales. In other countries, such as Canada, DayQuil still contains pseudoephedrine."
Thu. 1/3/13 3:35am fred von helsing:

But wait, there's more! "It should not be taken by people who consume an excessive amount of alcohol [..] Large amounts of caffeine should also be avoided if taking this medicine."
  Thu. 1/3/13 3:36am other david:

*starts a coldwave conga*
Thu. 1/3/13 3:37am fred von helsing:

coldwave and cold medicine for cool critters
Thu. 1/3/13 3:37am Matt from Springfield:

Since they clamped down on meth ingredients pretty much anything with pseudoephedrine has to be purchased and signed for behind a pharmacy counter. Since you can buy DayQuil OTC they've probably removed the pseuEph or reduced it.
Avatar Thu. 1/3/13 3:38am Mary Wing:

Matt, to answer your question from my playlist: no, not that Johnny Pearson. This one's American. :-)
Thu. 1/3/13 3:38am Matt from Springfield:

Thought this was going to be Bow Wow Wow - all their drums have that same "jungle" beat :)
Thu. 1/3/13 3:38am fred von helsing:

So Breaking Bad really does relate to everyday life :-P
Avatar    Thu. 1/3/13 3:39am Julie:

Thu. 1/3/13 3:39am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Mary! I now have another Johnny Pearson to look into :)

I think we could set a record for World's Longest Coldwave Conga Line today!
Thu. 1/3/13 3:40am fred von helsing:

YES
Thu. 1/3/13 3:40am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: I dunno for the Ants...but it'd be something primitive, caveman like! :)
Avatar    Thu. 1/3/13 3:41am Julie:

well the Ants were stolen from Adam and given to Annabella, or so the story goes
Thu. 1/3/13 3:41am fred von helsing:

A lot of her stuff doesn't work but this song sure as hell does. Borderline bananas.
Thu. 1/3/13 3:42am Matt from Springfield:

Ms. Dax! Love her stuff.
Avatar    Thu. 1/3/13 3:43am Julie:

Thu. 1/3/13 3:43am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Back in 1994 I got to spend a day with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. It was the largest variety of drugs I'd ever seen in my life...and I knew Al Jourgensen back then. One of my fave moments was walking into their dressing room to find them all drinking chocolate Ultra Slim Fast. L7 had left some behind and it was the only beverages left in the dressing room. One of the Bad Seeds was reading the ingredients aloud and when he finished he said "There's no ephedrine in this." Another Bad Seed reaches over and drops a pill into the can and exclaims "Now there is!"
Thu. 1/3/13 3:44am Matt from Springfield:

Those lads!
Thu. 1/3/13 3:45am fred von helsing:

I would crawl across a mile of broken glass to sniff the empty ultra slim fast packet of L7.
Avatar    Thu. 1/3/13 3:47am Julie:

I got some Nick later btw
Avatar    Thu. 1/3/13 3:47am Mary Wing:

Heh. That's a great story, Bad Guy!
Thu. 1/3/13 3:49am Matt from Springfield:

Hearing that *whoosh* sound? That's the sound of Ken running in and banning Julie for playing solo Rod! ;)

Although the synth riff here is actually quite hypnotic.
Thu. 1/3/13 3:50am Matt from Springfield:

"Run out the back door! The Musical Police are raiding the club!"

Thu. 1/3/13 3:54am fred von helsing:

worked a backstage for THL. SERIOUS frickin' media computer power.
Thu. 1/3/13 3:55am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: Computer power for their synths and equipment?
Thu. 1/3/13 3:59am fred von helsing:

IIRC they ran their own sound mix, but also they had a media show mixed and projected onto this huge screen about 4m high by 10m across (worth a cool 15,000€, only weighed maybe a hundred pounds) - 8 people getting that monster up on stage and into place without ripping a hole in it was a real thrill.
Thu. 1/3/13 4:00am Matt from Springfield:

Danceable Darkwave!
Thu. 1/3/13 4:01am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: Sounds cool.

Thu. 1/3/13 4:05am fred von helsing:

there should be an FMU competition for walking a set across diverse genres
Thu. 1/3/13 4:06am fred von helsing:

Bananarama => greatly underrated
Thu. 1/3/13 4:06am Matt from Springfield:

We come for the insanity; we stay for the glee.
Good "Cruel Summer" instrumental!

Ahh, Lacuna Coil. And what a coincidence, Wide Awake over here :)
Thu. 1/3/13 4:36am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Nick sounds like a cross between Bob Dylan and Mark E. Smith on this track.

W00t!!!!!! The Sweet! "Little Willy"!
Thu. 1/3/13 4:52am fred von helsing:

Toxic is quite a track. A lot of industry talent went into making that song and video. It could have been any singer and any track but it went into that one. Source: a conversation between WFMU DJs about a year ago.

Serendipitous moments.

The riff for this Francoise song is similar to a song by The Church that goes "oh oh - don't think so" or something like that.

@MvS "Great minds think alike" :-P

  Thu. 1/3/13 5:08am josh:

it's pronounced 'seeg seeg sputnik'
Thu. 1/3/13 5:08am Matt from Springfield:

I think it's supposed to be sig-ay sig-ay sputnik.
"Sigue Sigue Sputnik - believed to be a reference to a Russian street gang (which was said to translate as "burn, burn satellite", though the word "sigue" does not exist in Russian)."
  Thu. 1/3/13 5:09am meghan:

It reminds me of Juliana Hatfield
Thu. 1/3/13 5:09am Matt from Springfield:

"A more plausible source of the band's name is an actual Filipino prison gang founded in the 1960s, Sigue-Sigue Sputnik, "sigue-sigue" meaning "care-free" and "sputnik" a reference to the Russian-made satellite launched in 1957."
Thu. 1/3/13 5:10am Matt from Springfield:

Groovy version of AATW! It's "Pidge Rock"!
Thu. 1/3/13 5:11am fred von helsing:

I've heard "sig sig" sputnik. If you pronounce it au style francais it sounds like "Sieg" :-O
