  Sat. 12/22/12 11:26am Peter:

The Pilgrims forbade celebrating Christmas. Made shop-owners keep stores open and people had to work.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:26am Alternate Perspective:

Eat the squirrels.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:27am Connie T. Empress:

Happy Merry and Bright shows all year Michael! It is ALWAYS a #1 Hit show in MY heart!
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:28am SofieScholl:

Why don't you just ay off the politics and play music? If I wanted commentary I would tune in AM.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:29am Alternate Perspective:

That reminds me, I'm gonna get nothing but the MSNBC talking points from my family for the next few days, BORRRINNNNGGGG :-(

  Sat. 12/22/12 11:37am Andrew Waterloo:

C'mon Mike.. Other radio stations usually just have advertising and station ID
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:37am Red:

Do you have any Mr Magoo's Christmas Carols? Fave Christmas special in my house.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:38am SteveL:

Say whatever the heck you want Mr. Shelley. I'd probably listen to your show even if you promoted puppy juggling (which would be wrong.)
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:39am Red:

Michael's Pet Gripes is one of the best parts of the show.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:39am Mike East:

telling any dj on this station not to say (or play) something kinda goes against the idea of freeform radio (as I understand it, anyway)
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:39am doyle:

Agreed, Keep speaking your mind.
Avatar Sat. 12/22/12 11:40am Michael Shelley:

No Red, but I hear they're airing that Magoo Christmas Carol again for the first time in 40+ YEARS

  Sat. 12/22/12 11:43am fred:

Michael, I don't like your show, just tuning in today to give it another chance. But it's your show, and one of the most important reasons why I support the station is that it lets you have your show. You make the rules, say and play what you want. When I don't like it, I hit the archives. I certainly don't want you to change anything for me or another listener
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:45am mrmucho:

So Mike, I guess you're of like minds with Fox News anchors? I mean, they're just expressing opinions on their own shows.
Avatar Sat. 12/22/12 11:46am Michael Shelley:

Thanks Fred! I appreciate your thoughtful, constructive post!
Avatar Sat. 12/22/12 11:49am Michael Shelley:

Mucho, I support their right to express their ideas. But I think what they're doing is making a non-story seem like a crisis - and that's different - this is news reporting, no opinion spouting.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:51am Parq:

Arrived in the middle of your conversation with you little one. Been looking forward to today -- your show, Rex's show, Miss Terri's show -- for days. Psyched that you're playing this version of "Christmas Night in Harlem" -- most people fall back upon the more palatable Satchmo version, but this one is, well, a number one hit.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:52am SteveL:

Michael Shelley is not a source of news or information, (neither is Fox, but that's another discussion.) I do not listen in hopes of gaining a better understanding of current events. I listen because this is a show, primarily about music, that is molded very strongly by its author. Like Fred, (above,) I value this above all else when tuning in to WFMU.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:54am SteveL:

Keep in mind here, anyone challenging Mike's views is being honored by having their opinions discussed, on air.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:55am Robert:

Wow, Ms. Scholl actually considered THIS show, TODAY, to be too political?! It was like, what, 0.5% of your content?
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:58am mrmucho:

My larger point Mike was why do you complain about Fox? It's the same thing as people who complain about your show. I'm not sure why you watch it if it bothers you so much. I surely don't.
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:59am echardcore:

What was that about Woodbridge?
  Sat. 12/22/12 11:59am Connie T. Empress:

JEEZ let the man have his show! He brings us a lot of good music, great guests and spreads a lot of good will all year (unlike FIX News hatemongers) so let the man get up and do the popcorn y'all!
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:00pm Andrew Waterloo:

Cause Fox is large enough and influential enough to have an effect on public opinion. They played a large role in Romney supporters being surprised that there wasn't a Romney landslide.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:01pm Robert:

If you try to channel too narrowly the DJ's content, it kills the spirit. Of course everyone understands that given their head, the host will indulge in some stuff that repels those who were attracted by other things. Sometimes a DJ's taste will evolve in ways over time that wind up changing the show, as has happened with Kamikaze Diane. But it's that spontaneity, that lack of restraint, that makes WFMU so charming.
Avatar Sat. 12/22/12 12:01pm Michael Shelley:

Mr. M., I think Fox is harming the world - and I feel it is my duty to fight against folks who are harming the world.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:02pm paul:

Please save these no-one-wins arguments for facebook.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:03pm Detroit Mac:

Play that funky music... leave the comparisons between FMU and FOX to the asshats who don't have a clue to the difference between shit and shinola.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:04pm Robert:

So go Fox hunting, Mr. Shelley.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:04pm Parq:

My one and only contribution to this utterly ridiculous sidetrack:

  Sat. 12/22/12 12:04pm Tim:

It's almost Christmas and I haven't heard anything from Sufjan yet!
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:05pm Andrew Waterloo:

Bad news.. I think I'm too young to actually know what shinola is
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:06pm Paul R.:

Thank you for expressing your political opinions; it is refreshing and validating. I meet very few people who have the courage to take a stand on anything these days, and who challenge the toxic trash that is disseminated by Fox and its stooges.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:06pm fred:

Andrew, I think you hit upon an important point there. As an unapologizing liberal, I'm wary of listening only to people who agree with me. So I'll check out the conservative stuff once in a while, some of it makes sense, even if I disagree
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:07pm Parq:

Apparently, your 'thon premium should be pointless political back-and-forth.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:08pm Mike East:

my daughter was screaming in my ear when you announced the premium options. If "Superhits of the 80's" was one of them, I vote for that.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:09pm Phelger Nank:

2013 Premium: #1 Hit Club...VIP membership...?
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:10pm Richard:

For the marathon premium, how about songs somehow related to TV? Not just the Monkees and the Partridge Family - but TV themes, songs *about* tv. Things like that...
Sat. 12/22/12 12:12pm fred von helsing:

but how many TV show theme songs were *about* TV ? even the Mary Tyler Moore theme did not mention TV
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:13pm DG:

Wow, the "other" version of Saint Nick....I actually like this version better. I heard the expanded/revised version of this a few years ago & was surprised at how many hidden gems it had. "Child of Winter" is great too.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:13pm paul:

Premium idea: A compilation of songs by one-hit wonders, but not the songs that were the hits. Example: Something by the Strawberry Alarm Clock, but not Incense and Peppermint.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:15pm DG:

Hey, you don't happen to have a copy of Cheech & Chong's "Santa Claus & His Old Lady" there do you?
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:16pm paul:

Richard, you mean something like "Television" by Dave Edmunds?
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:16pm Connie T. Empress:

One premium highest bidder: dinner with you and Nick Lowe
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:17pm ChooChoo - ATL:

Hick Country SuperHits? LoRetta, George Jones, Dusty, Buck, et. al. as done by contemporary talent.
Sat. 12/22/12 12:19pm Michael from the Left Coast:

Michael, any idea who the drummer is on that Soul Saints record? He's pretty smoking!
Avatar Sat. 12/22/12 12:19pm Michael Shelley:

Any interest in a T- Shirt?
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:20pm Mike East:

teeshirt...yes!
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:20pm paul:

None here. Gotta be music!
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:21pm Binny:

Great one by Lord Nelson! Here's another classic by Lord Beginner:

Christmas Morning The Rum Had Me Yawning

Nothing says "Merry Christmas!" or "Happy Holidays!" like taking a stick and knocking down your brother or father!
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:22pm fred:

@FVH: I didn't reply right away because that took some thought, but my fave shows were The Ex (again), Le Cercle des Malissimalistes, and a Korean ensemble that used traditional instruments but played the most scorching free jazz I heard this year
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:23pm Parq:

The way Loretta pronounces "fireplace" reminds me of this number one hit Christmas joke:

In a small Southern town there was a "Nativity Scene" that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. One small feature bothered me. The three wise men were wearing firemen's helmets. Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left.
At a "Quick Stop" on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, yelling at me, "You Yankees never do read the Bible!" I assured her that I did, but simply couldn't recall anything about firemen in the Bible.
She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in my face she said, "See, it says right here, 'The three wise man came from afar.'"
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:24pm DaveinNJ:

Did Radiohead get The National Anthem from The Soul Saints? That saxophone...
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:24pm Always:

Look for t-shirts first always. But if a cd is more economical so be it. With Marshall Crenshaw and Dave Edmunds featured prominently of course.
Avatar Sat. 12/22/12 12:25pm Michael Shelley:

help!?
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:25pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Binny thank you for that :)
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:25pm Bob:

Joey Spampinato, I love him!
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:28pm Mike East:

I'll vote teeshirt out of those. Always need more teeshirts, and WFMU make up about 75% of my wardrobe.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:28pm Andrew Waterloo:

A #1 Hits T-shirt done in the K-Tel style would be cool
Sat. 12/22/12 12:39pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for Father Christmas from The Kinks.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:40pm drewo:

Happy Holidays Michael. Thanks for all of the no. 1 hits throughout the year -- a gift that keeps on giving.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:43pm Tim:

Hey Guys! It's Christmas Time!!! S.S.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:46pm Jimmy Wipper:

Maybe the worst and weirdest idea for a Christmas song EVER. Christmas in Uganda!
http://youtu.be/Q9liSxN0w4A
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:49pm ljbachnc:

XTC Christmas song ...?
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:52pm Joe B:

ah, the first song you will also hear repeated on Tuesday!
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:52pm Phelger Nank:

I like Andrew Waterloo's t-shirt idea. And this song rules.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:54pm JMD:

This one always gets me. Thanks Michael! Merry Christmas to all.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:55pm Robert:

My mother used to sing this "Mamacita" one.
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:57pm evan:

Mia wants to wish Juniper a happy birthday. We are loving the show today!!!
  Sat. 12/22/12 12:59pm Always:

A great show! Thanks and Merry Xmas Michael. One more for the radio hall of fame!
