@DCE yes and it is due to the wonders of caffeine

There likely isn't enough caffeine today, but the show is keeping me going at least.

We're here to celebrate the discovery of Europeans by Americans in 1492, ignoring those Vikings and various other stragglers who didn't make such a negative impression.

Yesterday I saw some geese flying over our house in formation. Headed for Spain I guess they were.

Waking up to the smell of the chili in our crock pot. It has been going since Bill Kelley yesterday. It is peppers, onions, tamatillos from our garden. And ground beef from a cow from the farm where we get our raw milk. But I have not been eating red meat for a few months. Since it is local and U probably touched or smelled this cow alive it will be ok.

Last year on the way back to VT from the record fair the Amtrak train was canceled because of downed trees in that huge snow storm. I had to get on a plane to get home.
  9:47am
northguineahills:

(Looks in the fridge, spots tomatillos), I think I might break out the crock pot and start some chili. I need to use up these scotch bonnets from my garden anyways. Thanks for the idea green mountain man mark!

Chili fever is spreading! Who's gonna catch it next?
  9:51am
?:

This kind of chili I make is the kind that gets put on things like a condiment. too intense just to slurp it up like a stew or soup. But I suppose you could.
  9:52am
green mountain man mark:

woops. Forgot t put me name in there. Just now getting some coffee.
  9:55am
Chris from DC:

Hey, this Jahzzar is great.
  9:56am
duke:

Mmmm. chili. Liz, do you have any chili songs?
  9:59am
northguineahills:

Mine is is pretty intense, my gf puts it over rice to dilute the heat. Crap, I want my chili now, and I haven't even started to cook it yet. This is going to be a long wait!
  10:01am
green mountain man mark:

for a very long time I have wondered if making chili from skunk meat would be good. You would need the stink sack from the skunk. I bet it would be ok if done right.
  10:01am
Sam:

Don't eat chili when your camping and you want it to be romantic and you're sleeping in a small tent. P U!
  10:02am
Sam:

Wait, skunk meat? Seriously? That's like Cletus the slack jawed yokel type grub.
  10:06am
green mountain man mark:

For some reason I had never heard this but I read a news story yesterday about a cat eating festivlal in Peru. Anyone heard of this? Now that is disgusting to me. I think I would eat people before I would eat a cat. But I am a cat person.
  10:10am
Krypt:

Hi Liz B and all, I am becoming quite a Spider Bags fan.
  10:13am
green mountain man mark:

my wife got out of bed very early this morning to discover our 12 year old daughter still awake and watching movies at 2:00 in the morning. My wife yelled the proverbial "it's two o'clock in the morning!" and for some reason the first thing I thought of at 2:00 in the morning, I wondered if vampires yell "It's two o'clock in the afternoon!" when someone disturbs them at that time of day.
  10:14am
duke:

I had to look up whether you could eat skunk meat. I guess you can. Here's a french-fried skunk recipe http://bit.ly/wxihjy Bon Apetite. Good luck catching those skunks.
  10:15am
Cheri Pi:

GWA GO!!!
  10:16am
will:

Wow Liz, you rock pretty hard for a girl. I'm learning a lot here.
  10:19am
green mountain man mark:

@duke--I think you can eat any meat as long as it is cooked properly. Wonder if the FDA has guides for cooking skunks. I will ask them.

How's everyone feeling about the Corin Tucker Band?

@HEAT: I liked that track. Then again, I can't be objective when I head this voice.
  10:43am
green mountain man mark:

Going to order my train tickets for the record fair. I am going to finish up my dumb sneeze at the sun box today so I can bring that. It is about the size of a shoe box, maybe smaller. Not sure it will work all that great. A couple of years ago I tried to get people who sneeze at the sun together outside and it wasn't very sunny. I could not sneeze and station manager Ken could not sneeze. So I came up with the idea for the little box. Hope it works.
  11:03am
tim from champaign:

Heat - I dig it. That cut was the first I'd heard of the new album. I'm glad Sara Lundt (Unwound) is drumming the band. She's a great drummer. What do you think?
  11:05am
duke:

@gmmm How does a sneeze box work?
  11:09am
Ach-Who:

Mama's got a sneeze box,
Daddy never sleeps at night
  11:12am
green mountain man mark:

@duke--well, if you are a person that sneezes at bright lights, such as the sun, only happens in about %30 of all people on the earth. Scientists think it is genetic and has something to do with the trigenial nerve complex in human faces. Some animals may also have this as I have seen in our cats. Scientists think that the nerves get crossed in the face of some people and the nerves in the nose cross with the nerves that make pupils dilate from light. You look inside the box and if you are one of the 30 percent, you sneeze, maybe. Not very scientific but something.
  11:14am
ob pond:

i am a sun sneezer. think i saw a sneeze box talked about somewhere else recently. maybe it was here though haha.

  11:22am
green mountain man mark:

Yes, I have talked about the sneeze box on other comment boards. If anyone is going to the record fair and is a photic sneezer I am the weird guy with long hair and a beard from VT, with a sneeze box. Hard to miss. But I might get my hair cut by Nelson at the fair this year. If he is going to be there.

  11:33am
green mountain man mark:

my daughter finally woke up. what does she think she is in college already? She said she remembers her mom telling her something this morning before she left. "oh, yeah! Make a pound cake." like father like daughter.
  11:41am
green mountain man mark:

She told me a story about being up at 2:00 in the morning and hearing our cat named Bob outside. She thought he was in the pantry but was outside meowing and all cold and wet. No school today on account of that Spanish/Italian/Portugalian guy who discovered that he could make a fortune by ruining the lives millions of indigenous people. My daughter is also half Indian. The heya heya kind with feathers. Not the ones that help you with computer problems.
  11:43am
HEAT:

@tim (sorry work is getting busy!) I really like Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag, Cadallaca, etc but I feel bad that the Corin Tucker Band is taking awhile for me to warm up to :(
  11:49am
green mountain man mark:

At school one year they were having a play. And guess what, nobody realized that making fun of Indians by wearing feathers, carrying tomahawks and the like was offensive. And having my daughter be the Indian in the play. Crazy. A gave them a piece of my mind. you know, be the bigger person. Give them a piece of my mind rather than take a piece of their scalp.
  11:51am
green mountain man mark:

And yes, they were having the kids run around doing the hand over the mouth Indian sound.
