Listener comments!

  12:03pm
Cecile:

I'm going to start my Francophone Depeche Mode tribute band, Fashion News.
  12:04pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hullo Duane, it was good to see you last night...
  12:05pm
Cecile:

I finally heard New Order's World Cup song. World Cup has a way of making good bands lousy. It's like a sporting Eurovision...
  12:05pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hey, it's like you're playing the examples to our discussion last night!
  12:06pm
Duane:

Hi Cecile..I'm up for that! Form the band i'll enginerr:) Jan: Great talkin with ya last night. Funn: New Order..have they been listenable since '89?
  12:08pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

yeah Technique was the last solid thing they released...
  12:09pm
paula pc:

@ Cecile -- such a great name for that...
  12:09pm
Caryn:

Cecile, if the band needs anyone on the keyboards, I'm available!
  12:11pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

I could be in charge of the graphics...
  12:11pm
Cecile:

I liked Crystal, that was pretty good. After that, not so much, maybe.
  12:12pm
Cecile:

hahah, paula, I did my homework.
  12:12pm
robyn:

gooooooood morning all.
  12:13pm
Duane:

Oh btw.. here's my shameless one time solicitation for donations. As you were....:)
  12:15pm
Duane:

Good morning robyn!!!
  12:17pm
Cecile:

Duane, please explain to me Bumblebee Unlimited.
I am perplexed by this.
  12:17pm
Cecile:

Also, Jan are there real differences between the Old Style types or it a practical joke on design students?
  12:19pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Old Style is a real typographic term
  12:20pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Okay, this is too much, someone is playing a bagpipe outside my window!
  12:20pm
Cecile:

I know. But all the teeny-tiny variations, I don't buy it.
hahahhah, I'm bitter because I kept guessing wrong in class yesterday.
  12:20pm
Duane:

Cecile: The Genius of Patrick Adams!! IT was basically Patrick Adams speeding up the vocals of some disco sessions he had laying around and they got huuge. Adams was pretty prolific and he used to put out dozens of records under different names and Bumblebee Unlmtd was just one of the many brilliant moments of his career...i may give him the Gibbons treatment soon enough :)
  12:21pm
robyn:

oooooh jackson 5!
  12:22pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Jackson 5 combined with bagpipes, ouch. headache forming...
  12:22pm
Cecile:

I heard it on the M&M mixes. It was kind of hysterical. "I'll have a nectar....and soda..."
  12:22pm
Juan Rapido:

I love this track!
  12:24pm
Cecile:

Juan, ITA.
  12:24pm
Cecile:

but then you come back with all these great ESL expressions on your show. You can't miss out on that.
  12:24pm
kata:

morning everyboday ! tuning in ~
  12:25pm
Cecile:

have J-Zone come back.
  12:25pm
robyn:

october of last year is when i started listening to this show...i was sucked in by "the snake" by junior...oh sweet memories.
  12:25pm
Cecile:

that sounds like a good singles show. But still bring J-Zone back.
  12:25pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

YES! DO IT! PRINCE! YES!
  12:26pm
Caryn:

Hell yeah, Duane! Unreleased Prince all the way!
  12:26pm
danomatika:

PRINCE please!
  12:26pm
BodegaMan:

Salivating at 2 hrs of unreleased Prince. YES!
  12:28pm
Cecile:

that's amazing!!!!!
  12:29pm
kata:

you know I'm down with Prince obscurities, no matter how they come..
  12:30pm
Caryn:

This ATC story is fascinating. I always figured that it was just another example of the way disco stars were constantly being discovered kinda randomly. The real story is way more interesting and cool.
  12:35pm
kata:

digging this piano bar piece..
  12:36pm
robyn:

2 hrs of prince with piano bar afterparty set.
  12:37pm
Cecile:

wow, this must have been right before she passed away...
  12:37pm
Krypt:

Hi Duane, and all, Beverly Kenney singing Chet Baker is sublime indeed.
  12:38pm
kata:

adding Beverly Kenney to my list of music to find -- any album recommendations ? Love the charm of this low-fi recording..
  12:39pm
Cecile:

wow, that was the best demonstration of theatre singing versus jazz singing I ever heard.
  12:39pm
Duane:

kata; She's great..very tragic story as well. Beverly Kenney sings for Playboys is my fave!
  12:40pm
Duane:

Hugh hef on the duet!
  12:41pm
kata:

thanks Duane, title has been noted !
  12:44pm
Krypt:

I've never wanted to be Hef until perhaps now...
  12:45pm
Jeremy Shatan:

So glad I got here in time to hear at least a little Mabel John! Hello, all.
  12:47pm
Neg-guh-tor:

Duane, once again, inspiring set. You remind me every Wed. I grew up on soul music. Thanks!
  12:48pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Aww, did you do a double play just for little old me?
  12:49pm
Duane:

i did a triple play Jeremy!
  12:51pm
kata:

ohhhh yes! !!!! !! ! ! you rule Duane..
  12:51pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Prrrrrrrrriiiiiince!
  12:52pm
danomatika:

Here we go!
  12:52pm
Droll:

[Looks up from working long enough to nod approval of this weeks amazing unreleased Prince track to D. Resumes working.]
  12:54pm
Caryn:

Next Hoof & Mouth Sinfonia, do some unreleased Prince, Duane!
  12:54pm
Neg-guh-tor:

Where are these unreleased demos, Duane!
  12:54pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Love coming right backatcha - I just made a pledge!
  12:54pm
robyn:

this track is making me see a link between prince and momus that i have never seen before.
  12:54pm
Neg-guh-tor:

?????
  12:55pm
chris:

Duane, FWIW, I think many of us would go quite a lot longer without getting tired of listening to unlreleased Prince tracks. More please. And what Caryn said! Peace and love.
  12:55pm
kata:

hot keyboard riffs !
  12:56pm
Caryn:

Considering the unending well of unreleased Prince you seem to be privy to, Duane, I'm starting to worry you have him tied up in your basement, forced to record awesome music for food.
  12:57pm

  12:57pm
Cecile:

I want Duane and someone else to take helium shots and do Lady Bug by Bumblebee Unlimited.
  12:57pm
Caryn:

Not that I necessarily mind, if this is the result.
  12:58pm
still b/p:

Now I feel kinda all felt up.
  1:00pm
Duane:

Neg-Guh-Tor: I've acquired them slowly over the years..:)
Caryn: Haha..I feed him Starfish and Coffee, Maplesyrup and Jam
and yeah..'d totally do a unreleased Prince Jam. I'd love to see the band lay down some "G spot" or "Feel U up"
  1:03pm
Krypt:

My buddy told me that it was a regular headache for studio personel working with Prince that he would regularly just give away master recordings of inspiring stuff that had taken hours to record, mostly to chicks he'd hooked up with he reckoned.
  1:04pm
Duane:

Krypt: Truth be told..If I were Prince, I'd probably do the same thing:)
  1:04pm
Caryn:

@Krypt: in that case... so, when did you and Prince hook up, Duane?
  1:05pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Just made a pledge as well!
  1:05pm
Krypt:

Yeah Duane I hope that tale is true, Prince lore is too cool.
  1:06pm
robyn:

this lanier song is awesome.
  1:07pm
Duane:

Thank You Jan!
Thank You Jeremy!
  1:07pm
Krypt:

@Caryn, ha ha ha, is that his secret.
  1:08pm
robyn:

heh, like the transition..
  1:09pm
Caryn:

@Krypt: considering the amount of material Duane has, either it was awesome, or a long-term thing.
(And thus concludes theory no. 2 of "how did Duane get all this awesome stuff")
  1:10pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Ice Band - as slick & cool as their name...
  1:11pm
Krypt:

@Caryn, I'm gonna go with awesome;)
  1:11pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Jeremy and I are part of the 7% solution...
  1:14pm
Duane:

Thanx for the Positives Neg-guh-tor!!
  1:14pm
robyn:

let me dust off my duane/prince fanfic here...
  1:14pm
Caryn:

@Krypt: well, of course, it would also need to be awesome to keep Prince interested in the long term, so I suppose both alternatives would have that in common
  1:16pm
Caryn:

@robyn: Second show in a row succumbing to fanfic... I blame October.
  1:16pm
Cecile:

hahahahhaha prince slash fic.
  1:16pm
Jeremy Shatan:

This would make a sweet segue into Isaac Hayes's version of Fever...not that I'm making requests, or anything!
  1:17pm
Krypt:

@Caryn you're right of course, natch.
  1:19pm
still b/p:

Fifty Shades of Purple.
  1:20pm
Krypt:

@still b/p, hahahaha.
  1:21pm
kata:

why not three hours of Prince ??
  1:22pm
Caryn:

Purple is a Halloween colour...
  1:23pm
Krypt:

Duane DO IT! (please)
  1:25pm
HEAT:

anyone else in here love the wfmu radio shows and use the wfmu chat rooms during work to keep the day exciting?
  1:26pm
HEAT:

right now I am three hole punching a large packet SNOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
  1:28pm
Krypt:

I know work is quiet if I get time to contribute, yeah I love just following the chat :)
  1:35pm
HEAT:

work talk = TOTAL BUZZ KILL hahah
  1:35pm
Jeremy Shatan:

That's a pretty funky breakdown for Bobbie Gentry!
  1:36pm
Mike East:

Yes, HEAT, I think I fall into that category.
  1:37pm
HEAT:

the show is great so far!
  1:44pm
Caryn:

Enjoying how the show has gone from younger to older to younger to older stuff. All of it good.
  1:46pm
Caryn:

Woohoo! 22 % raised!
  1:48pm
Krypt:

Man, there are so many iterations of Falling Up and all of them are great!
  1:49pm
hubba:

Great show, as always, love that transition from Labelle to this murky tech groove... okay, back to lurking, uh, I mean, working.
  1:50pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Theo!
  1:55pm
HEAT:

yeah hubba!!
  1:59pm
Krypt:

@cosmic, my workshop is stomping btw :)
  1:59pm
Cecile:

  2:01pm
gz:

  2:02pm
Krypt:

  2:03pm
Duane:

  2:03pm
fred von helsing:

  2:03pm
seang:

  2:07pm
Cecile:

  2:07pm
gz:

ehm - there is here is where; there?
  2:10pm
Duane:

gz: hahaha. I'll be in Berlin the first weekend in november..going to play in Munich as well
  2:11pm
gz:

i mean: true...
  2:17pm
Cecile:

that track is going to be legendary.
  2:19pm
Cecile:

Grace Jones came out of the Jamaican church too. Her dad was a minister, I think.
  2:22pm
BodegaMan:

I did a quick search for "Put No Blame on the Master" after Duane played a track a month back or so. Didn't look too hard, but is that album out there on vinyl? or is a holy grail type thing...
  2:24pm
Duane:

Bodegaman: I think it was pretty limited of a release, but maybe check on discogs? It came out fairly recently
  2:24pm
Cecile:

hahahah, that's what I do sometimes with this show.
I get a bug in my brain and I end up detouring to YouTube for half an hour.

anyway, really gotta go. Great show, Duane, everyone else have a great and interesting afternoon.
  2:28pm
Parq:

Dang, hearing "Can't You See" again is like biting into a rich dessert that I haven't had in years. I'm turning it up as much as I can get away with.
  2:29pm
fred von helsing:

  2:31pm
HEAT:

OH GOD YESSSSSSSSS
  2:31pm
common:

YEA. here comes the prince demo!
  2:35pm
Duane:

Bye Cecile!!!
  2:35pm
Droll:

[Second Prince-induced break of the day]
Okay -- we can simply all agree to work with the assumption that Prince is infallible. Duane, the challenge should be to find and air the one BAD Prince demo.
[Back to work]
  2:36pm
hubba:

So, he must have had to fork this over for at least a family sized pizza, wouldn't you say?... that should keep him busy in the basement for a few days... you got to loosen the cuffs a bit though, he's delicate.
  2:36pm
Prince:

Good luck with that!
  2:37pm
Caryn:

Gotta say, Kurt managed to dig up some not-so-good Prince during the Prince vs. Temptations duel. But Duane is all about the good stuff.
  2:41pm
HEAT:

LOL @ Prince
  2:43pm
hubba:

This is like Prince's Maggot Brain or Dark Star... epic!
  2:43pm
Prince:

Actually, it is more like November Rain, dig?
  2:44pm
Squirrel Meat:

@Droll - As incredible as The Man is, there are many many maaaany terrible Prince demos. See 1990 to 2005.
  2:44pm
Squirrel Meat:

Don't be mad, Prince.
  2:45pm
steve:

someone was explaining to me a Prince album from the early or mid 2000s that was all really cheezy canned Garage Band preset type soft instruments... the description made it sound really bad. i'm not sure which one it was though, maybe someone here knows?
  2:48pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Wow, that Prince rocks! Too bad he never released any records. Oh, wait you mean THAT Prince?
  2:48pm
Squirrel Meat:

The last album sounded very "boxy" (recorded in a computer as opposed to $1,000,000,000 studio) but it is a damn fine record. One-Man-Band Prince is the best!
  2:49pm
common:

nice mbv cover
  2:53pm
common:

hell yea unrest!
  2:53pm
Caryn:

@Squirrel Meat: true dat! The recent Prince stuff has been very good.
  2:54pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Unrest! Yes!
  2:54pm
pierre:

Bonsoir bonsoir radio people !
Bonsoir Duane ! Late

but here.
  2:56pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Yes - this is awesome. Further investigation needed!
  2:56pm
Caryn:

Damn, missed the 3rd Prince, because I walked away there for a bit for my "morning muesli". Of course, it's 9:55 p.m. over here, so I'm a bit late.
  2:57pm
dale:

digging noosha. sounds like a shirelles sorta thing
  2:59pm
dale:

oh, she was in fox
  2:59pm
octy:

I really like the slightly off sound on this Noosha Fox song.
  4:26pm
fxo:

nice to finally meet up with you, at the staff meeting.
Frank
  12:26pm
Duane:

great to meet you Frank!
