You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

hi dan, can i ask you why do you always start your show with one song from taking tiger mountain? it's a great record, but it seems kinda mystery for me...

Hello Dan and all the listeners.

I SEE IT ALL!
Avatar Mon. 9/24/12 9:35pm Dan B:

@doca, yes, it is a mystery. One day I was listening to the True Wheel in my car, and thinking about it, and thinking about how I was going to be moving from a Sunday 6am timeslot (where my opening song was the Velvet Underground's "Sunday Morning") to Monday nights at 9pm, and wondering what song would work for the new show time, and dwelling on my fraught relationship with Taking Tiger Mt., and it all just clicked. Mysteriously. And I knew it was right!!
  Mon. 9/24/12 9:36pm mark schmark:

Swans bring me back to church days, Bodah. powerful overwhelming emotion. wish the Swans had played at NCCC! :)
  Mon. 9/24/12 9:37pm doca:

dan, thanks for solving this one for me!
  Mon. 9/24/12 9:39pm doca:

and i know this should sound as sacrilegious, but i think the swans' comeback is better than the swans' original run.
  Mon. 9/24/12 10:00pm dave:

loving this roy montgomery thing
  Mon. 9/24/12 10:03pm dave:

woah, wikipedia says montgomery did something with flying saucer attack. bet that just utterly kills.
  Mon. 9/24/12 10:04pm kham:

Wow I haven't heard this amazing montgomery track. Here's the link all:http://grapefruitrecordclub.com/album/bruce-russell-roy-montgomery/
Avatar Mon. 9/24/12 10:19pm Dan B:

@mark schmark, yes, Swans at NCCC would've been extremely appropriate, despite the fact that no one involved would probably have thought so!
  Mon. 9/24/12 10:22pm kookaburra:

said to my spouse as she walked in the room, "this is live...on fmu. she looked at me like duh when i said the second part.
  Mon. 9/24/12 10:26pm dave:

wow.
Avatar Mon. 9/24/12 10:32pm Dan B:

Truly a treat to watch this in the studio. These guys live in three different cities and rarely get to play live together, but you wouldn't know it from how they kick it in total unison. The dynamics in this music are spot-on.
  Mon. 9/24/12 10:32pm Droll:

k, I hear ya -- the phrase "What are you listening to?" hasn't been uttered around here for a decade.
  Mon. 9/24/12 10:35pm dave:

jeez, it's hard to believe this is even _live_, let alone performed by people who only play together rarely. this is amazing stuff.
  Mon. 9/24/12 11:07pm joe:

'ello folks
  Mon. 9/24/12 11:21pm Ike:

I dig it, baby, I dig it.
  Mon. 9/24/12 11:47pm Nick:

Wow, this is amazing and inspiring. I'd heard about this Kenneth Patchen radio play with John Cage, but had never actually heard it.
  Mon. 9/24/12 11:49pm davo:

Patchen... my favorite author- this was amazing! thank you so much for allowing us to experience it !
  Mon. 9/24/12 11:51pm Nick:

Hard to believe it was broadcast 70 years ago.
