This is some broodong Cage music. Hard to edit documents by, as I get too involved in the music.

Hi Cheri! Yeah, fred, been away on holiday, most of it on a little island. No WFMU for almost 3 weeks. Good to be back!

there's some weird thing going on at MOMA, photos of people crying whilst the artist is just sitting in a chair staring at them... http://marinaabramovicmademecry.tumblr.com/

I didn't realize that Denny Randell was involved in the writing of Lover's Concerto. He worked with Bob Crewe and ultimately wrote some good Four Seasons numbers.

Here for the last hour at least. Hi, Kurt and ready-for-the-weekend listeners!
|
Fri. 8/31/12 5:04pm
Caryn:
Speaking of film music, spent most of the day racking my brain after watching a movie with a Michael Nyman score, only to recognise one bit as originally coming from another movie, and more specifically, a scene where someone committed suicide. Just couldn't remember what. Drove me nuts until I googled the track...

Hey, Caryn! I don't believe I've seen you on MM, at least not in recent months. You might enjoy checking out Kurt's playlist here when you have a moment: http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/46503 for some Gristle-y Kat sounds sent in. :) [TrisKaideKaphobic MonKs]
|
Fri. 8/31/12 5:16pm
Caryn:
@kat: ooh, will have to check that out! Yeah, I tend to somewhat lurk during MM, as I tend to just zone out on the music and not write that much on the comments board.
|
Fri. 8/31/12 5:17pm
kat330:
Oh, then maybe you already heard it. And speaking of films, did you ever see "Iron Sky," Caryn?
|
Fri. 8/31/12 5:25pm
Caryn:
@kat: not yet (couldn't afford to see it while it was in theatres), but will undoubtedly check it out at some point.

I really like Tom Johnson. Galileo is amazing live; even though you quickly know what's next, it's still new. And it's both physical and intellectual
|
Fri. 8/31/12 5:37pm
kat330:
This is fascinating. I have 2 streams just the tiniest bit off-sync making it -- mind-blowing.

DJKG:
yeah, johnson's crazy! do you know his "lecture on repeating" (or a title similar to that)? the audience yells to get him to either repeat the last sentence or move on to the next one after each line. it's amazing and hilarious! i heard him do it and was half the room was on the floor laughing because it's so absurd and he's so stone-faced doing it. |
|
Fri. 8/31/12 5:40pm
Prog Police:
I checked the "Math" box for Tom Johnson, but unless there's an arrangement with flute playing the solo line, this is not going to be reported to The Central Scrutinizer.
|
Fri. 8/31/12 5:44pm
fred:
@DJKG: I didn't know that one. But he lives in Paris and has ties to both my favorite venue (instants chavirés) and where I work. I've had chance sightings quite a few times, asking "hey, isn't that Tom Johnson?" to people nearby, getting blank stares in return...
|
|
♥
Fri. 8/31/12 5:46pm
DJKG:
oh, you should go chat him up! i've only spoken to him briefly but i think he'd be very approachable. ask him to do some math problems for you! |
|
Fri. 8/31/12 5:52pm
fred:
What I love most about Johnson's music is that you know the structure, but you really don't know what will fill it, and it's actually quite open within that framework I know he's open-minded and approachable, but it's kinda tricky in my situation
|
|
♥
Fri. 8/31/12 5:53pm
DJKG:
very well put. you know the structure but still can't see what it'll be. i like that. if you don't mind my asking, what situation? |
|
Fri. 8/31/12 5:56pm
kat330:
Good luck next Wednesday, Kurt! Thanks for the fascinating sounds heard today. Have a good one, people!

Well, when I see him at Ircam, he's with high ranking researchers, and I'm just a technician, I can't just go and interrupt.

northguineahills:
