herro - having a new bike after more than a year of searching for one after the old one got stolen... not more than a couple weeks of buying it, and seeing it a couple hours ago locked outside my flat, I just see a couple snapped wires and a missing bike... I should've learned a lesson
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 12:17am Joe McG:

What a sad story! Once someone put two of their own locks around my bike in an effort to steal it later, I imagine. Luckily, a friend had a hacksaw and handily destroyed both of 'em. The bike was saved, only to meet an untimely end soon after at the "hands" of a car door.
  Sun. 8/19/12 12:19am cool fool:

car door?
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 12:20am Joe McG:

Yeah, somebody opened one! Bad for bike. Bad for me.
  Sun. 8/19/12 12:21am cool fool:

what is really lame of me, is that my next door neighbor's bike, no longer appeared there, because all that lied was a chain and a padlock, and I for some reason just assumed he lost the key and decided to crack it open. whatever. whatever = stolen bike.
  Sun. 8/19/12 12:22am Destroit:

Hello Joe and everyone.
  Sun. 8/19/12 12:22am cool fool:

probably most gutting feeling is that out of the last 3 times my bike has been stolen, I was not more than 4 meters away whilst it happened
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 12:23am Joe McG:

Once my dad put in a security camera to catch people who kept scratching his car. What happened? They smashed the camera! Oh well. Hi, Destroit!
  Sun. 8/19/12 12:24am cool fool:

so I've really learned the lesson in that, however much you pay for a bike, you gotta spend at least half of that on locks....
  Sun. 8/19/12 12:25am cool fool:

heh, not the most inspiring topic for humanity I guess
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 12:27am Joe McG:

We can't leave our bikes unlocked anymore!
  Sun. 8/19/12 12:28am cool fool:

well, locking them isn't enough, seems like you gotta put as much weight in locks to keep the weight of a bike safe
Sun. 8/19/12 12:29am Holly in NC:

Hi Joe & all! Ron Mael's bday was a couple days ago...you probably know that...
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 12:31am Joe McG:

Hey, Holly! I guess you'd call that a Mael delivery!
  Sun. 8/19/12 12:31am cool fool:

I didn't, but now I know!
Sun. 8/19/12 12:34am Holly in NC:

Punny! We need Doug S. to play.
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 12:36am Joe McG:

I can't figure out why Doug never listens to my show! Why, I play country music and everything.
  Sun. 8/19/12 12:43am KP:

Joe, it was Christmas in August here yesterday. i just wanted to thank you, the station and the all djs who spent time and effort putting it together. Fittingly, it is all in a Christmas shopping bag now until the elves sort it out.
Sun. 8/19/12 12:47am Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Joe and all the listeners.
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 12:47am Joe McG:

Glad all was present and correct, KP. Anyone else who didn't get their swag: We're still mailing away. Hold tight.

  Sun. 8/19/12 1:02am Julie:

I have that sue saad record!
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:03am Joe McG:

Hey, Julie! Nothing like car/sex metaphors.
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:04am Julie:

isn't most of rock music a car/sex metaphor
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:05am Joe McG:

I guess you're right! I think I'll take it a bit farther with the next tune...
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:08am Joe McG:

Believe it or not, I just saw "Valley Girl" with Nicholas Cage for the first time. Josie Cotton is in it singing this!
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:09am Julie:

Makes me wanna hear The Shirts now
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:09am Julie:

Oh thats a fun movie! great soundtrack
Sun. 8/19/12 1:29am Matt from Springfield:

Lovely Power Pop last set, looking' forward to the big records with little holes!!!
Hi Joe! Hi everyone!!
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:29am Parq:

I stumbled onto the tail end of Valley Girl on TV one night, Josie C doing "Johnny Are You" and a rather elegant fade out to "Melt With You". Much worse has been committed to celluloid.
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:30am Parq:

This set is six flavors of neat-o, by the way.
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:34am Joe McG:

Hey, Matt! Hope you're well. @Parq: Thanks. Totally agree with you about the music in "Valley Girl." I think the only one to compete with it is the Jon Cusack one I can never remember the name of. Oh yeah: "Say Anything"!
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:35am Ashok:

Great! Loved that Native Hipsters track. Lots of standout excellent music.
Sun. 8/19/12 1:35am Matt from Springfield:

Goffin-King you said?

@Julie: Speaking of the tail end of old movies, I saw the tail end of Xanadu one night on cable recently. Actually a good fantasy-musical.
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:36am Joe McG:

Thanks, Ashok. Like your name!
Sun. 8/19/12 1:36am dan in Falls Church VA:

Hi Matt from Springfield!
Sun. 8/19/12 1:38am Matt from Springfield:

Cameron Crowe is great on soundtracks--he inc'ed grunge into the movie Singles right before Nirvana exploded onto the scene. By release time he ws ahead of the curve!
Sun. 8/19/12 1:40am Matt from Springfield:

Hey there Dan! Turn up your speakers, and I'll turn up mine so we can hear each others!!
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:40am Chop Scott:

JOE! Hello my friend! Trying to move couches by myself, after too much bourbon. Appreciate the programming, as ever...
Sun. 8/19/12 1:42am Matt from Springfield:

John Hughes, another director w/great music tastes, though he often featured comparatively lesser known musicians (Karyn DeVito for example)
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:42am Tukk:

I was told I could hear Rush here.
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:42am Joe McG:

Thanks, Chop Scott! I think I've had too much to drink also. First time I've gotten a wrong record speed in ages! Ergh!
Sun. 8/19/12 1:42am dan in Falls Church VA:

@Matt from Springfield, yes, great idea, I have been stingy about not sharing Joe's show with the neighbors.
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:43am Joe McG:

@Tukk: Every week on Meghan's program, Underwater Theme Park. She LOVES Rush!
Sun. 8/19/12 1:43am Matt from Springfield:

Hang on Scott! I can help! (fetches him some more bourbon)...
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:44am Tukk:

I'm writing it down with a #2 Ticonderoga. TY Joe.
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:47am Chop Scott:

It's all about leverage at this point, and using a flat dolly---but thanks Matt S.
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:48am Joe McG:

@Chop Scott: I thought you were going to say it's all about beverage!
Sun. 8/19/12 1:49am Matt from Springfield:

Also Joe, the waters have gotten MUDDY round my way! Checked out your prem on Thursday, excellent! Didn't have the Goodees "Jilted" song I like, but WOW the songs that did make the cut are especially heartbreaking, so downer! Great selections Joe!
  Sun. 8/19/12 1:49am Chop Scott:

Joe-well, that is a given...
Sun. 8/19/12 1:50am Matt from Springfield:

@Joe (drinks) I can help with the BEVerage side of things!
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:52am Joe McG:

@Matt: "Jilted" was definitely on my list, but I couldn't quite make it fit into the final running order somehow!
Sun. 8/19/12 1:54am dan in Falls Church VA:

pass the beverage plz
Sun. 8/19/12 1:54am Brian in UK:

Hello Joe & folks. Off for early morning dog walk. My daughter watched her bike being stolen on CCTV. Sad.
I'll be back to check up on powder pop later.
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 1:55am Joe McG:

Or the dutchie, as it were
Sun. 8/19/12 1:58am Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: that's what I mean, the ones that made it were so good, even Jilted wasn't good enough! Maybe for a Vol 2? :)
@Dan: passing a glass thru my Web connection...
Sun. 8/19/12 2:00am Matt from Springfield:

  Sun. 8/19/12 2:11am Julie:

chocolate covered...???
Sun. 8/19/12 2:12am dan in falls church VA:

Hey Matt, the police have stopped by for a visit! They must have heard the music and liked it! Good thing I turned it up.
Sun. 8/19/12 2:12am Matt from Springfield:

Yeah, chocolate covered...go there and see Wed!
Sun. 8/19/12 2:13am dan in falls church VA:

Don't worry, Matt, I'll give credit where credit is due and tell them it was all your idea!
Sun. 8/19/12 2:14am Matt from Springfield:

YES! The legendary Mr Lupica for Ms Nazario!

Are you filling in for Fiveash, Joe? He had announced that this week.
Sun. 8/19/12 2:15am Matt from Springfield:

@Dan: Oh good! The police can come over, and really get this party started!
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 2:17am Joe McG:

@Matt: Yes, actually I am! Matt asked me if I would, so I'll be doing a fill-in on Thursday afternoon from 1-3 on the Rock and Soul Ichiban stream. I guess I should mention that!
  Sun. 8/19/12 2:20am Danne D:

Hi Joe :) Hi everyone :) Today was Swagmas for me :D
Thanks for all that you do, Joe!
Sun. 8/19/12 2:21am Matt from Springfield:

Yes, might be a good idea!
First time on the Itch!
Sun. 8/19/12 2:21am Matt from Springfield:

All right Danne!! Merry Swagmas! :)
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 2:22am Joe McG:

@Danne D: Glad you got your swag finally! We do our best, but we're a bit late this year...
  Sun. 8/19/12 2:31am Danne D:

@Joe McG it's totally worth it and understandable :) Props for the recycled packing boxes (seriously - you guys do an amazing job of stretching the pledge dollars and making each one go as far as possible). The ambition that goes into each personalized package of swag, the assortment of premiums and prizes, all done with such a huge volunteer component in terms of processing - it's truly extraordinary. I can't think of any similarly sized entity that goes to 1/100th of the trouble. It takes a lot of organizing and there are bound to be snafus along the way, so I totally understand :)

Thanks for the Swagmas wishes, Matt :)
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 2:34am Joe McG:

@Danne and Matt: The nice thing is that so many listeners are so cool about it. The percentage of folks howling bloody murder is astonishingly low.
  Sun. 8/19/12 2:42am Listener #321:

Cheers to Joe & tiny staff of great folks that all magically keep this fantastic station moving forward--and yes--- of course the volunteers !
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 2:44am Joe McG:

Indeed! Thank you to all the volunteers who make all this possible. Especially the couch movers!
Avatar Sun. 8/19/12 2:53am Joe McG:

Life is people...like Y-O-U! Have a good week, everybody! Thanks for listening.
  Sun. 8/19/12 2:54am Listener #321:

Joe--I thank you for the excellent show. Cheers to you!
