Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from July 31, 2012 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Matt from Springfield:

I love the hum of cassettes in the afternoon!
  3:05pm
Van in DC:

Been hearing that hum most of the afternoon Matt (GTDR) Hi Matt! Hi Brian!
  3:06pm
jljl:

Did Gibby provide any rare Trouble cassettes (if this show goes in a non experimental direction)?
  3:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Van!
Lots of cassette listed -- Give The HUMmer Radio.
  3:08pm
Cecile:

mt:

pictures are key. would love to interview ryan for a column.
  3:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

Love that freaky Muppet-alien-esque Time Kade illustration.
  3:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

This guitar sounds a slow, processed version of my string trimmer cutting grass. I like it!
  3:25pm
lou rawls:

hey bt
one of the olivia tremor control died today.
that's sad.
  3:27pm
BSI:

FUCK! It's Bill, that's terrible.

  3:27pm
Chris from DC:

Oh no.
  3:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow. Did you record the ripping of the piano apart? You could have attached it to the end of the beautiful recording!
  3:31pm
Ryan M.:

Hey everyone, thanks for listening....hope you dig the tapes.

R.I.P. Bill from OTC :(
Avatar 3:32pm
BT:

Yeah, super sad news... Bill and OTC were here at FMU this past year, and at Primavera.
  3:32pm
Cecile:

wow, that sucks.
In other news, I see that Jaz from Killin Joke is AWOL. Again. Renmember when he took off to Iceland in the early 80s?
  3:34pm
Cecile:

that one man show was so great.
  3:34pm
DCE:

I now join this show already in progress. Good day to you all.
  3:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

Bad news, yet another RIP in a year heavy with them.

Wow, but..."Tremoraire for Brian Turner" is out on tape!
  3:35pm
DCE:

what? Bill Doss? aw man....
  3:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

Good day DCE.
The EAS could be interrupting all other radio to bring this show to them. Not until 6 will other radio return to their programming already in progress.
  3:37pm
dan:

Great stuff - - thanks a lot Brian and Ryan!
  3:37pm
Ryan M.:

If anyone wants a copy of the Letha Rodman Melchior tape that has Tremoraire for Brian Turner...you can order it at www.robertandleopold.com
  3:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, "Fighting TEMERAIRE for Brian Turner"! Glad you have that on the playlist!
  3:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Ryan! And thanks for coming in, I think this is your 3rd year doing it, and I look forward to it each time!
  3:41pm
Rory:

I guess York Factory Complaint is done. I just bought a YFC tape before Hanson went down for the summer.
  3:42pm
Ryan M.:

York Factory Complaint is not done, in fact we're recording new material next month!
  3:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

All right! Upside Down Bat Music on BT's show!
  3:43pm
Rory:

Thanks Ryan had no idea.
  3:47pm
Cecile:

I thought they were driven by fish.
  3:47pm
Cecile:

Oh...humanity. Not the manatee.
  3:50pm
fred:

Speaking of experimental tapes, there's the Tanzprocesz label over here in france. Good stuff, and a lot of it ends up on the FMA once it's sold out
  3:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

Poison Dwarfs!
This type of sound is *ideal* for cassette--those overdubbed, hazy vocals and synths just wouldn't have the same effect coming out of a digital track.
  3:53pm
Ryan M.:

Jon who runs Tanzprocesz is a good egg...he helped out tremendously when Dais did the Ghedalhia Tazartes 'Diasporas' reissue LP...fantastic label.
  3:53pm
Cecile:

Now I thought they sang "egos in NY".

Ryan, do youi have anything with manatees in it?
  3:55pm
Ryan M.:

No manatees...but I brought a poltergeist...stay tuned.
  3:55pm
Cecile:

niiiiice!
  3:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

I thought it was "He goes in NY", though I was about to suggest "egos" because that phrase kind of works!
  3:58pm
BSI:

Manatee music may be hard to identify, although Daevid Allen's group may qualify as a dugong...
  3:59pm
Cecile:

owwwwwwwwwww BSI.
  3:59pm
DCE:

oh my, my oh my
  4:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wooooo! Go Brian, perfect Top-of-the-Hour!
  4:01pm
northguineahills:

I've been cooking/eating, damn this is so nice!
  4:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

@BSI: Wow, strained but functional Canterbury Scene groaner pun!
  4:03pm
fred:

@Ryan: Right on about Jo. His own music as Fusiller is pretty good too, and he's also half of Opera Mort, with él-g
  4:11pm
Matt from Springfield:

James Twig Harper--now THIS is what I call a EAS tone!
  4:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ryan: I liked that Rose Croix, you said that it's a new Brave Mysteries tape, and it might still be available?
  4:12pm
Rory:

My mind is being warped and spun!
  4:13pm
Cecile:

We could do a new music series, Matt: "Now That's what I CALL an EAS TONE!" Vol 1-200...
  4:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yes Cecile!
Show 60 second commercial spots, *infomercials* even! Now what noise legends could host it? Yoko works, but now we need a guy for the other host...
  4:20pm
fred:

That Twig Harper was amazing. I only saw him live once and it was a great show.
  4:23pm
fred:

@Matt: First time I've witnessed someone being at a loss to find a guy in the noise scene. I'd suggest Andy Ortmann, but I guess he's not a household name
  4:25pm
D in Miami:

Just tuning in now. Looks like I've missed some awesome stuff!
  4:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

"The Eternal Now with Andy Ortmann" Andy Ortmann? He's hosted shows here!

Well, it's hard to think of a noise artist I would call a "legend"...they're generally only legends on FMU and the like :)
  4:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

Pffftt! I like the other EAS tones better! ;)
  4:29pm
fred:

@Matt: that's him. He's not a legend, but he sure knows his stuff. Of course, you could go with Merzbow or Thurston Moore instead
  4:33pm
Letha:

WoW! I love this!
  4:34pm
Cecile:

sounds kind of like Regressive Aid.
  4:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

@fred: Merzbow and Thurston Moore are other good choices!
  4:38pm
fred:

Consistently great stuff.
I guess I'll have to bail out soon, as soon as my neighbors start banging their floor before calling the cops. But I'll definitely check out the archives for the rest
  4:39pm
Cheri Pi:

Look what the cat finaly dragged in! These tape covers are amazing!!!
  4:39pm
Rory:

fred, just do what Sun Ra did. Tell the cops your making a joyful noise to the lord.
Avatar 4:40pm
BT:

Hey Fred, nice to see you.
  4:40pm
fred:

@Matt: Merzbow might now be the most charismatic of the two. I only wish Nox Factio were legends, they're my fave noise act right now
  4:43pm
fred:

@BT: Paris is just dead in summer, so I'm stuck home instead of being at a gig. Catching you show live is one of the rare good things about this
  4:48pm
Cecile:

Yes, scared stupid was a movie
  4:48pm
Rory:

Ernest scared stupid was my favorite movie as a kid.
  4:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Ernest: Scared Stupid" REMIX! I want to hear that!!

Yes Ryan, it is real: I saw that in the theater when I was 8 or so :)
  4:48pm

  5:42pm
siltbruize:

Russ & Lea are the Czoka/Kiick of Drag City. one MUST meet their demands!
  5:45pm

  5:50pm
humanuboat:

hee haw box has a ring to it.
  5:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ernest! Hee Haw! Let's go!
  5:51pm
Rory:

Thanks for the crazy tape sounds. I think the reason Ernest got scared cause he released a troll on halloween somehow.
  5:52pm
Cecile:

I'd be totally down with Hee Haw
  5:53pm
Cecile:

where oh where are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over and I thought I found true love You met another and pffffft you was gone...
  5:54pm
