Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Tue. 7/31/12 3:05pm Van in DC:

Been hearing that hum most of the afternoon Matt (GTDR) Hi Matt! Hi Brian!
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:06pm jljl:

Tue. 7/31/12 3:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi Van!
Lots of cassette listed -- Give The HUMmer Radio.

Tue. 7/31/12 3:18pm Matt from Springfield:

Love that freaky Muppet-alien-esque Time Kade illustration.
Tue. 7/31/12 3:25pm Matt from Springfield:

This guitar sounds a slow, processed version of my string trimmer cutting grass. I like it!
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:25pm lou rawls:

hey bt
one of the olivia tremor control died today.
that's sad.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:27pm BSI:

FUCK! It's Bill, that's terrible.
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/olivia-tremor-control-founder-bill-doss-dead-at-44-20120731
Tue. 7/31/12 3:27pm Chris from DC:

Oh no.
Tue. 7/31/12 3:31pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow. Did you record the ripping of the piano apart? You could have attached it to the end of the beautiful recording!
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:31pm Ryan M.:

Hey everyone, thanks for listening....hope you dig the tapes.

R.I.P. Bill from OTC :(
Avatar Tue. 7/31/12 3:32pm BT:

Yeah, super sad news... Bill and OTC were here at FMU this past year, and at Primavera.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:32pm Cecile:

wow, that sucks.
In other news, I see that Jaz from Killin Joke is AWOL. Again. Renmember when he took off to Iceland in the early 80s?
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:34pm Cecile:

that one man show was so great.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:34pm DCE:

I now join this show already in progress. Good day to you all.
Tue. 7/31/12 3:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Bad news, yet another RIP in a year heavy with them.

Wow, but..."Tremoraire for Brian Turner" is out on tape!
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:35pm DCE:

what? Bill Doss? aw man....
Tue. 7/31/12 3:36pm Matt from Springfield:

Good day DCE.
The EAS could be interrupting all other radio to bring this show to them. Not until 6 will other radio return to their programming already in progress.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:37pm dan:

Great stuff - - thanks a lot Brian and Ryan!
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:37pm Ryan M.:

If anyone wants a copy of the Letha Rodman Melchior tape that has Tremoraire for Brian Turner...you can order it at www.robertandleopold.com
Tue. 7/31/12 3:37pm Matt from Springfield:

Ah, "Fighting TEMERAIRE for Brian Turner"! Glad you have that on the playlist!
Tue. 7/31/12 3:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Ryan! And thanks for coming in, I think this is your 3rd year doing it, and I look forward to it each time!
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:41pm Rory:

I guess York Factory Complaint is done. I just bought a YFC tape before Hanson went down for the summer.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:42pm Ryan M.:

York Factory Complaint is not done, in fact we're recording new material next month!
Tue. 7/31/12 3:42pm Matt from Springfield:

All right! Upside Down Bat Music on BT's show!
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:43pm Rory:

Thanks Ryan had no idea.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:47pm Cecile:

I thought they were driven by fish.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:47pm Cecile:

Oh...humanity. Not the manatee.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:50pm fred:

Speaking of experimental tapes, there's the Tanzprocesz label over here in france. Good stuff, and a lot of it ends up on the FMA once it's sold out
Tue. 7/31/12 3:51pm Matt from Springfield:

Poison Dwarfs!
This type of sound is *ideal* for cassette--those overdubbed, hazy vocals and synths just wouldn't have the same effect coming out of a digital track.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:53pm Ryan M.:

Jon who runs Tanzprocesz is a good egg...he helped out tremendously when Dais did the Ghedalhia Tazartes 'Diasporas' reissue LP...fantastic label.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:53pm Cecile:

Now I thought they sang "egos in NY".

Ryan, do youi have anything with manatees in it?
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:55pm Ryan M.:

No manatees...but I brought a poltergeist...stay tuned.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:55pm Cecile:

niiiiice!
Tue. 7/31/12 3:55pm Matt from Springfield:

I thought it was "He goes in NY", though I was about to suggest "egos" because that phrase kind of works!
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:58pm BSI:

Manatee music may be hard to identify, although Daevid Allen's group may qualify as a dugong...
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:59pm Cecile:

owwwwwwwwwww BSI.
  Tue. 7/31/12 3:59pm DCE:

oh my, my oh my
Tue. 7/31/12 4:00pm Matt from Springfield:

Wooooo! Go Brian, perfect Top-of-the-Hour!
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:01pm northguineahills:

I've been cooking/eating, damn this is so nice!
Tue. 7/31/12 4:01pm Matt from Springfield:

@BSI: Wow, strained but functional Canterbury Scene groaner pun!
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:03pm fred:

@Ryan: Right on about Jo. His own music as Fusiller is pretty good too, and he's also half of Opera Mort, with él-g
Tue. 7/31/12 4:11pm Matt from Springfield:

James Twig Harper--now THIS is what I call a EAS tone!
Tue. 7/31/12 4:12pm Matt from Springfield:

@Ryan: I liked that Rose Croix, you said that it's a new Brave Mysteries tape, and it might still be available?
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:12pm Rory:

My mind is being warped and spun!
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:13pm Cecile:

We could do a new music series, Matt: "Now That's what I CALL an EAS TONE!" Vol 1-200...
Tue. 7/31/12 4:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Yes Cecile!
Show 60 second commercial spots, *infomercials* even! Now what noise legends could host it? Yoko works, but now we need a guy for the other host...
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:20pm fred:

That Twig Harper was amazing. I only saw him live once and it was a great show.
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:23pm fred:

@Matt: First time I've witnessed someone being at a loss to find a guy in the noise scene. I'd suggest Andy Ortmann, but I guess he's not a household name
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:25pm D in Miami:

Just tuning in now. Looks like I've missed some awesome stuff!
Tue. 7/31/12 4:26pm Matt from Springfield:

"The Eternal Now with Andy Ortmann" Andy Ortmann? He's hosted shows here!

Well, it's hard to think of a noise artist I would call a "legend"...they're generally only legends on FMU and the like :)
Tue. 7/31/12 4:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Pffftt! I like the other EAS tones better! ;)
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:29pm fred:

@Matt: that's him. He's not a legend, but he sure knows his stuff. Of course, you could go with Merzbow or Thurston Moore instead
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:33pm Letha:

WoW! I love this!
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:34pm Cecile:

sounds kind of like Regressive Aid.
Tue. 7/31/12 4:35pm Matt from Springfield:

@fred: Merzbow and Thurston Moore are other good choices!
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:38pm fred:

Consistently great stuff.
I guess I'll have to bail out soon, as soon as my neighbors start banging their floor before calling the cops. But I'll definitely check out the archives for the rest
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:39pm Cheri Pi:

Look what the cat finaly dragged in! These tape covers are amazing!!!
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:39pm Rory:

fred, just do what Sun Ra did. Tell the cops your making a joyful noise to the lord.
Avatar Tue. 7/31/12 4:40pm BT:

Hey Fred, nice to see you.
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:40pm fred:

@Matt: Merzbow might now be the most charismatic of the two. I only wish Nox Factio were legends, they're my fave noise act right now
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:43pm fred:

@BT: Paris is just dead in summer, so I'm stuck home instead of being at a gig. Catching you show live is one of the rare good things about this
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:48pm Cecile:

Yes, scared stupid was a movie
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:48pm Rory:

Ernest scared stupid was my favorite movie as a kid.
Tue. 7/31/12 4:48pm Matt from Springfield:

"Ernest: Scared Stupid" REMIX! I want to hear that!!

Yes Ryan, it is real: I saw that in the theater when I was 8 or so :)
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:48pm CarbonJoeTunis:

ah, the googles.... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101821/
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:52pm Cheri Pi:

this is so badass
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:54pm joe_p:

  Tue. 7/31/12 4:55pm D in Miami:

Perfect soundtrack to ANY afternoon.
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:56pm Letha:

Bleak Race is my new favorite!
  Tue. 7/31/12 4:56pm common:

  Tue. 7/31/12 4:59pm Cheri Pi:

Tue. 7/31/12 5:07pm Matt from Springfield:

Old radio doco, from BBC Poltergeist!
  Tue. 7/31/12 5:08pm Rory:

  Tue. 7/31/12 5:09pm northguineahills:

  Tue. 7/31/12 5:12pm Mike:

  Tue. 7/31/12 5:13pm northguineahills:

Tue. 7/31/12 5:19pm George of Troy:

  Tue. 7/31/12 5:35pm Cecile:

"Ernest" aka Jim Varney, was also Slinky Dog in the first couple of Toy Story movies.
  Tue. 7/31/12 5:35pm Personage:

It was a ghost er whatever.
  Tue. 7/31/12 5:35pm siltbruize:

Tue. 7/31/12 5:36pm Matt from Springfield:

All great tapes this set!
  Tue. 7/31/12 5:40pm Ryan M.:

am I crazy or was there a Ernest goes to Space???? I have an image in my head of Ernest in a astronaut outfit.
Tue. 7/31/12 5:42pm Matt from Springfield:

I believe Mr. Bean went to space in the mid 90s...
  Tue. 7/31/12 5:42pm siltbruize:

Russ & Lea are the Czoka/Kiick of Drag City. one MUST meet their demands!
  Tue. 7/31/12 5:45pm siltbruize:

All I know is I was invited to come watch the Ernest/Jail one & I laughed. I may have been on beer however.
Avatar Tue. 7/31/12 5:47pm BT:

Tue. 7/31/12 5:50pm Matt from Springfield:

  Tue. 7/31/12 5:51pm Rory:

  Tue. 7/31/12 5:52pm Cecile:

  Tue. 7/31/12 5:53pm Cecile:

Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over and I thought I found true love You met another and pffffft you was gone...
  Tue. 7/31/12 5:54pm humanuboat:

this is probably what grandpa jones heard just before his brains were blown away by that shotgun
  Tue. 7/31/12 5:55pm Chhhh:

Haven't had a chance to tune in for a long time; thanks for the noise Brian; it's clearing my head and helping me code.
  Tue. 7/31/12 5:56pm dan:

Wow. Great show. Where did I put my Ernest videos?
Avatar Tue. 7/31/12 5:56pm BT:

  Tue. 7/31/12 5:57pm Ryan M.:
