Oy, oy, oy!

Curious about the process...asked last week but I don't think you got to it. Steinski spent 20 hours assembling according to an edit list/plan, or was he findin' and feelin' and reworkin' it as he went? Was it precise or freestyle...or little of both?
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:11pm triish:

I'd guess he had a palette of audio and created from there.
Avatar Fri. 6/15/12 12:12pm Doug Schulkind:

@still b/p
Apologies for missing your query last week. Steinski selected music first, then then wove in spoken word recordings and sound effects and stuff. The segues between each different audio source got messaged, edited, tweaked and screwed with dozens of different ways. Then Steinski record his voiceovers and edited them into the whole mix. He invented the amazing feature of playing a snipped of each track as he back announces so you can remember which track was which. Brilliant!
Avatar Fri. 6/15/12 12:14pm Doug Schulkind:

I bet there were two dozen edits in that segue from Rip Rig & Panic and Ornette. Maybe more. Probably more.
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:14pm kat330:

Thanks for the question s b/p and thanks for the explanation, D.
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:15pm triish:

Yeah, nice to learn the details, schmetails

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT
There will be no Steinski show next Friday.
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:23pm kat330:

Ah, at least *one* I won't have to retrieve from the archives next week. I'm hoping to keep my catch up contained to the month of July.
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:25pm still b/p:

Thank you. The work is evident.
More AEC. Glasses...shot or otherwise.. stay safely on the shelves that time?
Avatar Fri. 6/15/12 12:26pm Doug Schulkind:

Yes, dear God, secure your shot glasses people. I shouldn't have to tell you!
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:26pm kat330:

No probs here. Even my coffee remained upright this Ides of June.
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:39pm Stanley:

Hi ya Doug and listeners. Finally got home in time to catch a sizeable chuck of the Friday Steinski. I switch on the stream and get comfortable. But I'm not really digging the mix....until I realise I'm listening to Bryce's show on the other channel whist checking out the GTDR playlist. What a dope!
Avatar Fri. 6/15/12 12:40pm Doug Schulkind:

Steinski and Bryce, together again!
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:44pm kat330:

@Stanley: At least you didn't POST to the list you're not listening to. *Twice*
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:44pm northguineahills:

ahhh.., when Odelay was contemporary (when this Steinski originally aired).
Avatar Fri. 6/15/12 12:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Good point, NGH. This show was hip-happening in 1995.
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:47pm Stanley:

Steinski's choices are timeless.
Avatar Fri. 6/15/12 12:48pm Doug Schulkind:

Also an excellent point, Stanley. I worked with Steinski for a few years in his studio and the man had an almost physical love affair with his record collection.
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:50pm kat330:

NGH: A Horniest Hulling or A Hellions Hurting, your anagrammatic choice. :)
Avatar Fri. 6/15/12 12:54pm Doug Schulkind:

Did she say calamari? I am HUNGRY!
  Fri. 6/15/12 12:58pm northguineahills:
