  Sun. 6/3/12 12:50am clarke:

hey, how come no mention of Hazlewood in that new Wrecking Crew book -- not one???
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 12:52am Joe McG:

Seriously? I haven't read it yet but really want to. Poor Lee. No respect!
  Sun. 6/3/12 12:53am clarke:

yeah, i am thinking he pissed off the author?? ha ha. i really enjoyed the book on a certain level, yet....i have complaints, haha.
  Sun. 6/3/12 12:54am clarke:

to my understanding: hazlewood put together a LOT of those Wrecking Crew guys (BEFORE spector)
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 12:55am Joe McG:

@clarke: Now, Lee Hazlewood's a guy who I wish had written a tell-all autobiography.
  Sun. 6/3/12 12:56am clarke:

don't get me wrong - the book is a GREAT read - and i know you will enjoy it...
  Sun. 6/3/12 12:57am clarke:

i just read a killer interview with lee --- but i can't remember WHERE...will have to think =- but there is such nice music on - i can't think, ha ha.
  Sun. 6/3/12 12:58am clarke:

don't want to give too much away about Wrecking Crew book: but author spends a LOT of time explaining the music business, unecessarily - like does Rubber Soul have to be 'explained'??
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 12:59am Joe McG:

Thanks, clarke, appreciate the "nice music" comment!
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:00am clarke:

i often listen to your show -- but, us musician types hardly EVER get a saturday night off to weigh in on the comments!!
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:01am clarke:

  Sun. 6/3/12 1:08am clarke:

  Sun. 6/3/12 1:17am Fiveash:

Got home just in time to hear you reading from the Charlie Louvin tome! Nicely done, Joe. Additionally, I could listen to nothing but Hank demos for the rest of my life and be OK with it.
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:17am clarke:

my favorite waylon tune!!
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 1:18am Joe McG:

Hey, Matt! I might read one more bit yet. It's a great book. I'm with you on the Hank demos!
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:19am clarke:

yeah, nice reading - i gotta read that book!!
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:25am G:

Dude's brutal :-)
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:26am Fiveash:

The Louvins were successful enough, but had the Satan Is Real cover shoot caught their hair on fire they might have been bigger than Michael Jackson. But that's show biz...
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:27am Julie:

I'm late..what are we reading?
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:28am G:

Louvin memoirs, Julie
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:28am Julie:

  Sun. 6/3/12 1:35am Fiveash:

Julie- ha! Can't wait for the equally violent Neil Kaplan memoir.
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:37am Julie:

So I won't ask Ira how his bullets are then?
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:38am Skillet:

Yo la kabongo
Sun. 6/3/12 1:38am Matt from Springfield:

Oh WOW! Joe is on tonight! Glad I caught Single File!
How ya doing, Joe! Everybody!
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:39am david:

reminded me of the season finale of fringe
Sun. 6/3/12 1:40am Matt from Springfield:

Hey Julie, Fiveash, G, david!
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:40am G:

You're up late!
Sun. 6/3/12 1:41am Matt from Springfield:

@G: I'm FREQUENTLY up late! Rather I should accuse you of being up late! ;)
Sun. 6/3/12 1:42am Brian in UK:

Mornin' Joe. Apache is proving popular. Faye played the original the other day. The Shadows' Hank Marvin was the Hank in Neil Youngs 'Hank to Hendrix' song.
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:42am G:

My bad!
Sun. 6/3/12 1:43am Matt from Springfield:

Still, awesome to catch you on Surface Noise, G!
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 1:43am Joe McG:

@Brian: Hey, Brian! Insider's Tip: Faye collects versions of "Apache" (don't know if she has this one)
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 1:44am Joe McG:

Hey, Matt from Springfield! Forgot to say hello earlier.
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:46am G:

Which version of "Rings" was on the radio a lot in the early 70s? This one? There were several versions...
Sun. 6/3/12 1:46am Brian in UK:

Yes Joe she said that she used to play them on college raydeeo. My favourite Shads title is 'The Rise & Fall of Flingel Bunt' Hope I got that right.
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 1:47am Joe McG:

@G: I think it was by a group called Cymarron or something like that. This one's weird 'cause it's on Motown.
Sun. 6/3/12 1:47am Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: No prob, you're busy spinning short platters! I didn't realize that people collected versions of "Apache", let alone Faye. I am somehow much happier as a result of learning this.
Sun. 6/3/12 1:48am Brian in UK:

Hank Marvins name is Brian if your are interested MfS.
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 1:50am Joe McG:

@Brian: I love that Hank Marvin solo album from 1969 or so.
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:50am G:

Joe's right. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymarron

Cymarron's version got to 17 in 1971. The version Joe just played was released in 1974, as was a version by Lobo (whose big hit was "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo" in 1971)...
Sun. 6/3/12 1:50am Brian in UK:

Was Gloria driving when Bolan hit the tree?
  Sun. 6/3/12 1:51am G:

meow! :-)
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 1:52am Joe McG:

@Brian: She was, I think. Hurt bad, but only he died.
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 1:56am Joe McG:

Does anybody know offhand what riddim was used on the Johnny Osbourne record? It's so familiar that it's driving me crazy.
Sun. 6/3/12 1:58am Matt from Springfield:

Oooh, Steve Martin.
Sun. 6/3/12 1:58am Brian in UK:

Love it Joe playing singles, commenting all at two in the morning. Octopus Man!!
I was thinking of some Culture tracks. Two Sevens Clash maybe.
Sun. 6/3/12 1:59am Matt from Springfield:

I'm pompous, obese, and eat cactus!
And I'm going to a yawning festival tomorrow!!
  Sun. 6/3/12 2:01am Fiveash:

Joe- The original instrumental is Real Rock by the Sound Dimension (Studio One house band), I think. The best known version is probably Armagideon Time by Willie Williams.
  Sun. 6/3/12 2:02am Fiveash:

And I'm with you on the possibly pernicious influence of Steve Martin records as a youth.
Sun. 6/3/12 2:04am Matt from Springfield:

Ah, "Lend Me The Sixteen" meant 16 tracks to record. Thanks Joe!
Thanks Fiveash too, that's a good catch!
Sun. 6/3/12 2:08am Matt from Springfield:

Hoooooray Hooray! PSA!
Sun. 6/3/12 2:09am Brian in UK:

Showbands were based in Ireland. Waterford being famous for crystal glass. Confused by the 'Royal'.
Please do not mention the Queens Jubilee.
God save the Ween.
  Sun. 6/3/12 2:09am Jerseyite:

Yo, hack dis sack!
Sun. 6/3/12 2:09am Matt from Springfield:

  Sun. 6/3/12 2:13am Fiveash:

Joe, it's a rare treat to hear the show live. Normally on Saturday nights I work till Christ o'clock. This is my way of telling you that next week you're on your own when it comes to arcane rocksteady trivia...
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 2:14am Joe McG:

@Fiveash: Bummer! I wish I had your beeper for dumb questions.
  Sun. 6/3/12 2:15am Beeper:

Sorry, I've been donated to the Obsolete Technology Museum.

Sun. 6/3/12 2:19am Matt from Springfield:

Good ol' GSH!
In fact, you played a tribute to him right after last year's Primavera, RIP since May 27 last year.
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 2:20am Joe McG:

Wow, Matt, thanks for reminding me! I totally forgot that! A whole year already.
Sun. 6/3/12 2:29am Brian in UK:

Was that Marlin on harmonies?
Sun. 6/3/12 2:30am Matt from Springfield:

And thanks for this John Doe/Exene Cervenka, new release, so it just dawned on me (and no doubt others) as well!
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 2:32am Joe McG:

@Brian: I don't see hubby Marlin listed, but who knows? It was just a demo! What a good one. @Matt: You're welcome! Nice to hear them singing together and I like that song.
Sun. 6/3/12 2:34am Matt from Springfield:

"Electric ragtime" is a good description as any of this tune. The quirky, instrumental folk nature of it reminds me of an unreleased demo as a bonus track on a 60s/70s band's deluxe reissue.
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 2:37am Joe McG:

That sounds like a new genre, Matt!
Sun. 6/3/12 2:38am Matt from Springfield:

I will work on telekinetically creating it, whether the record industry likes it or not!!
Avatar    Sun. 6/3/12 2:54am Joe McG:

Thanks for listening, everyone! Hope you all have a great week. See you next time.
Sun. 6/3/12 2:57am Brian in UK:

Bye.
Sun. 6/3/12 2:58am Matt from Springfield:

Great anthem. And thanks Joe, hear you next time as well!
