Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

I bought a 6 of Rolling Rock over the weekend cuz I was feeling cheap. Its been a long time since I had it...it is not good.
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:41pm dc pat:

Mike: no it's not.
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:42pm northguineahills:

I bought Bud over the weekend b/c I have to be cheap. PBR is marginally better. Going to get 1 decent beer this evening to make up for it.
Tue. 5/22/12 3:43pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

oh heck if you're feeling/need to be cheap, buy Yuengling at least!
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:43pm boscpear:

must have been 1990. I heard it on my local station KXLU los angeles
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:44pm dc pat:

DCE: correct on Yuengling. Actually not bad, but the owner of the company is a bag of douche.
Tue. 5/22/12 3:44pm Chris from DC:

Shiner's ok for (relatively) cheap.
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:46pm Mike East:

I get a 6 of Yuengling every Friday. I went through them too quick which is why I had to get another...and since I had already spent my beer budget, RR is what I came up with. Never Again!
Tue. 5/22/12 3:46pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

what other decent cheap regional beers still exist? Ranier or Olympia out west? Remember Old Chicago? Old Style?
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:46pm dc pat:

Chris: drank too much Shiner Bock at Asylum when they were selling it for 25 cents at 6pm. Then it would go up 25 cents every 15 minutes...or something
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:47pm dc pat:

what ever happened to Black Label?
Tue. 5/22/12 3:48pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

Black Label's still available...that's about as bad as it gets though

I used to put down quite a bit at Iota, Pat, though not for those prices. Somebody got Milwaukee's Best this weekend. Ugh, the Beast.

Natty Light? Natty Bo?
Milwaukee Beast, cans of badness.
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:49pm SteveL:

Huber, out of Wisconsin. Always cheap, always potable. Leinenkugle's is still around but has (successfully) taken a micro-brew turn in its business model.
Tue. 5/22/12 3:49pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

we used to have POC in Cleveland, and it made a brief resurgence in the early 00s only to disappear again.

Grain Belt is a favorite of some of my friends. I do NOT concur.
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:50pm northguineahills:

Ok, I"m going to my beer bodega and look for the cheapest domestic beer I haven't tried yet (can't be many out there).
Tue. 5/22/12 3:50pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

I can't believe how expensive Leinenkugel is though. Leastways round these here parts.
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:52pm SteveL:

Yeah, Lenies is not a bargain brand anymore. 6-8 bucks per 6 here in the Midwest.
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:52pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Genny Cream Ale is a good slummer
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:53pm Schlitz:

I'm yr guy
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:54pm Mike East:

not domestic, but when I lived in Brooklyn, I drank alot of Tyskie and Zywiec which are Polish, I believe, and quite cheap.

Dad was an exclusive Little Kings drinker for years. Don't know how he did it!
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:56pm dc pat:

Ambergris!!
Tue. 5/22/12 3:56pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

been taking advantage of the Labatt spring craft pack lately--$19/case. Pretty decent beers, including a shandy, pilsner, blonde ale and rye ale.
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:56pm still b/p:

The resurrected Narragansett brand is showing up around here in northern New England with its new "old" look. But will not try it, even if Curt Gowdy's ghost wants to buy me one.
Tue. 5/22/12 3:57pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

I used to collect cans in the 70s (like everyone). I remember that Narragansett can.
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:57pm KevinfromBayRidge:

King of Odessa-by-the-Sea(11223)-Baltika#9. 8%ABV ( If you believe the label!)
  Tue. 5/22/12 3:57pm northguineahills:

Narragansett is all over Brooklyn. Better then some beer, but not decent by any stretch of the imagination.
Tue. 5/22/12 3:59pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

does anyone remember when the "generic" craze hit in the late 70s and you could buy "beer" in a white can with black letters?
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:00pm dc pat:

I collected cans too. Ended up trying to sell them years later but had to pitch most of them. Had a cone top too.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:01pm SteveL:

DCE: Absolutely. Even had cigarettes in the black and white, (sometimes yellow and black) packs.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:01pm BSI:

AIEEEEE! Gig in Rhode Island last year: venue's only drink deal for performers was $1 Narragansetts. First and last time. I'm not a beer snob, but that stuff..... *shudder*
Tue. 5/22/12 4:01pm Chris from DC:

Yeah, I had a can of Billy beer in my collection. I can only imagine how bad that must have been.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:02pm jljl:

Gansett guys are super nice and supportive but damn, you go beyond the first 4 sips of a cold beer, it goes downhill REAL fast.
Tue. 5/22/12 4:02pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

ha, I saved a couple full cans of Billy Beer and then when I turned into a wayward teen, I drank them.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:02pm BSI:

...made our own Natty Boh taste like Aphrodite's milk by comparison.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:02pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Narragansett seems to be the new contender for overachieving beer. Watch Out PBR!

hipster alert, right

Visiting friends in the old neighborhood years ago when a guy bought a six of Haffenreffer to be funny. It WAS funny, but then what we had to drink was...Haffenreffer.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:05pm SteveL:

I grew up on Coors. Its amazing I still drink beer.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:05pm northguineahills:

I love the Prince Fari interjections.
Tue. 5/22/12 4:06pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

was Coors ever good? I used to think, with that gentle-yellow can, it must be refreshing
Tue. 5/22/12 4:06pm Chris from DC:

I think the first one I tried was Schaeffer.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:06pm BSI:

By the way, may I say how refreshing it is to join the WFMU family after a day of meetings and see a beer conversation already in progress......
Tue. 5/22/12 4:07pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

we should probably talk about music at some pint POINT
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:08pm dc pat:

I think the first beer I had was Genesee Cream Ale. I know what you mean BSI! Hey! My people!!
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:08pm dc pat:

Welp, I gotta go ride 30 miles and no beer tonight....sigh...so long.
Tue. 5/22/12 4:09pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

I think Carmichael started it...Carmichael always starts the beer conversations.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:09pm KevinfromBayRidge:

My friend bought a house in Lynbrook, LI circa 1980. It's former owner had been Tex Antoine, local meteorolological legend in notoriety. His unfinished attic had a plethora of beer cans nailed to the rafters( along with an "Uncle Weatherbee" porchlight. Don't make 'em like that anymore.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:10pm Tom G:

my recent fav is this one--

http://victorybeer.com/beers/golden-monkey/

6 of those and look out.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:11pm SteveL:

My first illegally-purchased beer was Coors. (Age 14, helpful 7-11 clerk.) No. It was never good.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:11pm BSI:

@TomG: We've got a place that sometimes has the Monkey on tap. On that style, ever get Three Philosophers? Not as sweet, but it's a groove.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:12pm seang:

been enjoying this beer called Hoptimus Primus
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:14pm still b/p:

When Coors finally arrived with fanfare in eastern states in the 70s, I tried one and immediately adjusted their slogan at the time, "It's the water....and not much else."
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:14pm seang:

whoops, "Prime"
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:15pm BSI:

Never started on beer until age 19, so I had time to work up a fake-snob act. First one was a Guinness. Legal age was raised to 21 after I turned 19, so was grandfathered in... strange days.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:16pm Cheri Pi:

I'm experimenting w/ Leinenkeugel (sp)'s lemon shandy-it's not bad especially when the weather's hot.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:17pm Tom G:

haven't tried that one BSI, but I've seen it around ... big bottle right?
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:19pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Just bought cases of Victory Hop Devil & BluePoint Hoptical Ale. Life should be good for the near future!
Tue. 5/22/12 4:19pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

yeah those shandys are tasty. BSI's FIRST beer was Guinness? that's pretty impressive actually. Most first-timers would look at that color in fear.
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:19pm BSI:

@Tom: yep. But they also do 4-packs of smaller ones. It's been on my short-list for a while now. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/42/3457
  Tue. 5/22/12 4:20pm BSI:

@DCE, it's all because I started late. Had to be all bad-ass (in as much as I was never bad-ass, ever).

I like Tyskie and Zywiec--don't recall them being "cheap" but certainly being good, affordable beer for around here. Total Wine has beers from around the world, by the bottle and by the 6/12/24/case for sale.

Zywiec is placed next to Zatec, another East Euro (Czech) beer. It's pretty good, but I tried it because they say it's been made since 1004 or some year like that--must have something good going for it if it's been around over a millenium!

Soul healing frequencies
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:23pm Xavi:

and hello to everyone. Awesome show today. Hadn't tuned in for a while.
Tue. 5/22/12 5:27pm Matt from Springfield:

And hello to you Xavi! Always a pleas to see you.

I would say "sublime frequencies"--lowercase, because regardless whether this is on that label or not, the frequencies are sublime! Soul healing, even..
Tue. 5/22/12 5:27pm tim from champaign:

Man, all this beer talk and +dog+ mind melting has killed any motivation for work. Anybody dig Baltika?
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:28pm Mike East:

@Matt from Springfield - I had a feeling it wasn't Polish. My memory seems to be purging some of the useless info that I've been storing in there.
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:28pm Xavi:

what's up Matt? :)
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:32pm BSI:

5:30 in this time-zone. Feeling the gravitational tug of that beeeeer. But..... this.....
Tue. 5/22/12 5:33pm Matt from Springfield:

@tim: Never considered trying it. It could taste good.
@Mike: Zywiec does "look" Polish, although the town is pretty close to the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

@Xavi: Network outtage after network outtage all day at work! But thankfully, not the network that *really* matters, this one!
Tue. 5/22/12 5:34pm Matt from Springfield:

Boy I may be getting pretty buzzed when I get home. I was going to have a kir royal and later some J├Ąger in celebration of World Goth Day, now I'm getting thirsty for beer too...
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:35pm Xavi:

@Matt: Nice. I'm recovering from a half week of partying in Austin while catching Spiritualized and a handful of other bands. A post-mini-SXSW if you will.
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:36pm sugs:

great set!
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:38pm sugs:

is this the same steve davis who was in nimrod?
Tue. 5/22/12 5:38pm tim from champaign:

Matt, Baltika is my favorite "eastern block" beer. I dig their style of baltic porter. Rich and smokey. Plus it's affordable and comes in varying degrees of gravity.
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:40pm vanya:

hey guys! maybe exported baltika is good? i`m glad to hear that, it`s from my town, but here it`s kinda watery. zywiec is pretty good we drink it when in poland. i thought it was polish. i`d prefer polish beer over russian generally. just a view from this side!
Tue. 5/22/12 5:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Ah, you already dig it tim! Thanks for the rec, I oughta pick one up and see what the buzz is about.

And thanks vanya for the Russian side of beer!
Tue. 5/22/12 5:45pm tim from champaign:

@vanya, what's the name of your town? yeah, I'd say the import Baltika is not watery at all. Baltika 6 and 8 seem to be the most common. My favorite polish beer is Okocim. Cool and refreshing.
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:50pm bill:

What a racket!
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:51pm ODTK:

Shaved Women, fuck ya
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:52pm vanya:

i`m from petersburg, but live in moscow. speaking of beers - don`t you enjoy american stuff - i discovered for myself i.p.a., when i was in michigan, and would prefer it over zywiec even. didn`t try okocim though
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:54pm hubba:

OLD RULEZ!!!
Tue. 5/22/12 5:55pm tim from champaign:

Cool Vanya - greetings to Russia! I lived most of my life in Michigan and love their beers. It's the only growth industry in the state. Did you have any favorite IPAs?
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:56pm northguineahills:

+DOG+ mentioned Solmania, I saw them open for SY in '98. Still have the shirt, although the armpits have holes.
Tue. 5/22/12 5:57pm Matt from Springfield:

IPAs, Hefeweizens, lagers, several good US beers out there. Widmer, Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams, Starr Hill, Anchor Steam, Lagunitas, Fordham, too many to name..
Tue. 5/22/12 5:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Brian, didn't hear much of +DOG+ but I loved the tail end of what I did hear! Will check this Archive.

Have a great time at Primavera--keep bringing us those good sets!
  Tue. 5/22/12 5:59pm vanya:
