It has to be said that though there was suspicion that Grissom panicked and blew the hatch, all physical evidence has found that he didn't. The hatch blew due to a technical error. The capsule was recovered in 1999. It's now on display in a Kansas museum. | |

They first tried with chimps, then orangutangs. Several decades later it was found that gibbons seemed to be the best match for humans. Non-hominoid primates, like baboons, rhesus monkeys and squirrel monkeys, have been found to be definite non-matches. But no successful hybrid, or "humanzee", has ever been bred. | |
