Foist!?
Avatar 11:48am

Today's show will not be the recently-purchased-vinyl-lying-around-my-living-room special announced last time. Instead, starting around an hour into the show, it will be a tribute to the recently deceased French guitar (slide/dobro/steel/hawaiian) and ukulele player Cyril Lefebvre. At the end of the show, I'll be previewing a brand new show/series of mine that will be kicking off next week. I'm calling it "Tape Hiss" and it'll feature unreleased concert recordings and demos from -- mostly -- the '70s and '80s. This new show will alternate with my "regular" show and will also air on Tuesdays, starting at noon.

Hey there, Kay! You are foist! Or actually I was, but I was busy writing the long-winded message above.
  11:53am
Kay:

Looking forward to today's tribute and new series. (No boo, hiss.)

On now: a contemporary song-poem release. Yes, the song-poem mills still exist!
  12:04pm
Ricardo Montalban:

Weekly, eh?
So, you're going to be neither odd nor even, then?
  12:04pm
Michael:

Hello Tony and fellow muso's. Song poem mills do still exist - I work with someone who's done some singing on a few here in the Boston area.

Heya, Ricardo and Michael!

Ricardo: I'll be odd and uneven....
Avatar 12:06pm

Michael: Interesting! Has your friend retained his sanity?

Anchovy Paste:

I hear that song-poems from the mills come home malnourished and with parasites.

Wow! This is great! Rascal Reporters. Never heard of 'em before.
  12:27pm
BSI:

This is brilliant as heck.
HECK, you understand? HECK!
  12:31pm
Heckardo Flauntalban:

Oh, Tony! Now you have us all in suspense...
  12:32pm
conrad:

Ricardo - check out the Rascal Reporters "Freaks Obscure" album. Think I dl-ed it from Mutant Sounds or someplace like that. Craziest thing I ever heard.
Avatar 12:33pm
tonyc:

Glad you liked the Rascal Reporters track, Ricardo and BSI! They're a great, great band, imo. They've been around for 35+ years, but are still sadly way underappreciated.
  12:33pm
Heckardo Flauntalban:

Mutant Sounds is scary. They make me feel like I have the world's most pedestrian musical taste by comparison
Avatar 12:33pm

And here they are again....

Sorry for the tape hiss -- this is a second-generation tape. Maze 1066 are currently working on a new release that will feature all their '80s compilation tracks, including this one.

Howdy, Van in D.C.!

Tape hiss on your show, Tony, is a matter of honor. So I think we ought to begin calling you: Hiss Honor!

Careful: with all the talk of surface noise we might wake a certain old codger...
Avatar 1:02pm

@Listener James... I too am caught in the great Gmail outtage of 2012.

Avatar 1:21pm

As I guess I said already, all tracks in this Cyril Lefebvre tribute portion of the show not credited to him feature him as a player. In some cases, just to confuse you, there is a second guitarist as well.
  1:25pm
conrad:

Tony, whenever you say Mr. Lefebvre's first name, I think you're saying "surreal."

Appropriate, I guess.
  1:28pm
Montardo Ricartalban:

I have that Mike Cooper 10". Someone once left a small stack of Chabada 10"s in my mailbox at KBOO. Lots of Steve Beresford records.
  1:29pm
Montardo Ricartalban:

I keep thinking the same thing, Conrad.
