man, for some reason during my feverish sleep last night, I was humming All With Cecile...that and various Van Halen songs which makes me want to kill David Lee Roth right now.

Thanks BW! Joe, I think you were wise to attempt to get tix for tonight... "The Mix" is like a greatest hits album, so I think we'll be in luck.

Cecile:

I'm older than IAN. God. (not by much, though.)
  10:21am
BDR:

Been seeing his shows since Teen Idols on through. One benefit of growing up in DC.
  10:22am
joe:

Yup that's exactly why I went for it. I think this is the perfect night unless you have special place in your heart for any of their specific albums. I hope it all turns out be worth the hype for you and BW and it's a nice time
  10:27am
joe:

Already looking up Camera and Cave on FMA. Wow good stuff.
  10:28am
dc pat:

"Teen Idles"
  10:29am
BSI:

Having grown up in DC, it's a bit like treason to admit, never dug Fugazi. That first Minor Threat 12" is a perfect release & belongs up there with the greats forever, but that other band just seemed too precious.
  10:30am
BSI:

Part of that might be that they were playing everywhere in the early days, & heard the 1st album's material millions of times while waiting for other acts on the bill, etc...
  10:31am
dc pat:

Hey Liz B, play some Teen Idles for Ian's b-day.

I liked Fugazi, I think 13 Songs is near perfect. Great live shows.
  10:32am
dc pat:

..but I missed the hardcore days for the most part...growing up in Alabama, PA.
  10:33am
dc pat:

Definitely seems like Fugazi was playing everywhere, all the time...can't tell you how many times we said, "Ah, we'll see them next time. Let's go drink."
  10:34am
knstr:

This is so nice!
  10:34am
knstr:

This is so nice!
  10:34am
BSI:

DC's best acts during the late '80s for me were Sarcastic Orgasm, Beefeater, Christ on a Crutch... It was a golden age, before the local sound got too whiny for my taste.
  10:35am
Cecile:

same here BSI, for different reasons.

For me it was the butthole surfers, they lived in Detroit for 6 months and headlined at the Graystone at least once a month. Still don't dig them, but I tell people that I've seen them more times than bands I like.
  10:35am
joe:

@BSI it took me until after the "hiatus" to really actually enjoy Fugazi. I can totally understand have a bit of a problem getting on that wagon
  10:35am
Chris from DC:

Missed a lot of that while I was away at school. We went to see Minor Threat once, but my friends wanted to leave after Government Issue, so I never got to see Minor Threat. That last Fort Reno show by Fugazi was pretty killer. Big second on those "other" 80s bands. Black Market Baby ruled too.
  10:36am
Cecile:

Beefeater rubbed me the wrong way the one time I saw them. I think I would like them better now.
What about Grand Mal? They were pretty fierce from what I heard.
  10:37am
Cecile:

I loved BMB. Never saw 'em.
Loved Scream.
Saw Rites of Spring - really, really intense. Taey were pretty unforgettable.
  10:37am
pierre:

…i never had the chance to see any of these bands live… sad face sad face… France, so late on good hardcore.
  10:37am
BSI:

Never caught Grand Mal. Tiny Desk Unit were a treasure. 9353 as well... and rumor has it THEY ain't dead yet!
  10:38am
joe:

I was alway particial to Lungfish is that much later not really sure of the time lines
  10:38am
dc pat:

oh, man. Buttholes--that's a whole other story....

I liked Rites of Spring but that's probably getting into the whiny area BSI mentioned...
  10:38am
Cecile:

aha, 9353, I remember them.
  10:39am
BSI:

If you dug Lungfish, you needed to catch REPULSION FOR REPTILES. Similar concept (in theory), poetic ranting over angular instrumental jams. But much much much much more crucially awesome.
  10:39am
dc pat:

9353, nothing like them. I hear they're finishing up a new album.
  10:41am
Chris from DC:

The Ramones and Black Black Market Baby remains one of the best shows I've ever seen.
  10:41am
joe:

Thanks BSI will do
  10:41am
BDR:

Still a blast to go to Fort Reno for summer shows.
  10:42am
BDR:

Oh. URBAN VERBS.
  10:43am
dc pat:

it's funny, Fort Reno is a place to take the kids now.
  10:44am
BSI:

ah, and in the days when Slumberland label was still an embryo, there was Big Jesus Trash Can (later WHORL), a massive favorite. If memory serves, they shared a bill at DC Space with BOMB and BORBETOMAGUS that left me insane for days...
  10:44am
BSI:

that could be an inaccurate memory, of course.
so many shows...
  10:50am
joe:

Liz giving Jason a run for his money in the FMA
  11:02am
BSI:

aah, nice.

Meatball Machine was upsetting the dog.
  11:02am

alright!

Thanks Liz. What ever happened to that singer? Can't remember his name. Guitar player lives a block away from me in the house he grew up in.

I know this is off-topic, but, for all my fellow DC folk: Morton Subotnick will be talking and performing Silver Apples of the Moon at Clarice Smith on Wednesday. It's free!

Did anybody go to the Krautwerk show? Wondering how that was as it was also sold out before I got tickets :)
  11:42am
joe:

@Cheri that is one of the craziest things I have ever had done. I had to wear the senior folk Terminator glasses for a little bit after they did it.

Whenever I get the dilation treatment, I tell them my wife is picking me up and then I drive off.

  12:01pm
Van in DC:

hi / bye Liz!
  12:29pm
Lesley:

Hi Liz, I always listen to your shows on demand via the fantastic wfmu app. But with this week's show (april 16th), there is a problem with the markers between the songs.

I think there are markers too manu in the beginning
  9:54am
Barry Hobby:

So nowIi know you read this stuff, I'll comment. In Portland Oregon the storm drains are linked to the sewer drains. Any time it rains intensely (and that never happens in the NW) raw sewage is dumped into the confluence of the Willamette and the Columbia at this big park - Delta Park. It literally smells like shit on any rainy day.
