Greetings, from Vantuckey!
  Tue. 3/27/12 11:50am Ricardo Montalban:

They don't allow radios up here, so it's just internet radio in a little, darkened attic
  Tue. 3/27/12 11:51am Doug S.:

Welcome to the Drummer stream, DDDJJJ666! May I call you DDD or is it strictly Mr. 666?

CORDOBA to you Ricardo!

Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 11:54am DDDJJJ666:

First up will be Freur as bed music, who are not, in fact, German, but I always used to joke that they were one of the most German British bands from the era that sounded like a German band.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 11:57am DDDJJJ666:

Thanks for having me in your stream, Doug!

i am both esoteric and stupid at times. sometimes at once. welcome dddjjj666!
  Tue. 3/27/12 12:02pm Dervish:

From the esoteric to the stupid! That would make a pretty boring venn diagram.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 12:07pm DDDJJJ666:

Sorry, I got sucked into a toast void. Hi James und Dervish!
  Tue. 3/27/12 12:09pm Carmichael:

I toast this music. Just the kind of cold, sterile, mechanized, impersonal stuff I expect from 80's era German music.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 12:09pm DDDJJJ666:

This is Thi-To getting all Motorik on your Arsches.
Tue. 3/27/12 12:09pm Dan in Seattle:

  Tue. 3/27/12 12:12pm Carmichael:

ich seh in eure augen = I see in your eyes
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 12:42pm DDDJJJ666:

This is a liottle tougher: Wollt Ihr Die Toitale Befreidigung = Would You Like Total Satisfaction? I think that last word is right.
  Tue. 3/27/12 12:47pm Hungry George:

Biopic, as in myopic.
  Tue. 3/27/12 12:47pm robyn:

I have a pre-spot for punky Nina
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 12:50pm DDDJJJ666:

Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 12:59pm DDDJJJ666:

I always kind of wondered if Mr. Meyers hadn't heard that track in particular.
  Tue. 3/27/12 12:59pm Ricardo Montalban:

This is the kind of music I imagine all my coworkers and wife think I listen to all the time.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:00pm DDDJJJ666:

Ricardo, can I also be your wife?
  Tue. 3/27/12 1:01pm Ricardo Montalban:

That would be bigamy.
It would be big of you, too.

I hesrd sn interview with him, where he said that character was based on a Toronto waiter he knew, who was really into the German underground industrial music scene. So the odds are high that he heard Heute ist Tanz at one point.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:02pm DDDJJJ666:

Well, then I'll just marry Big Amy.
  Tue. 3/27/12 1:03pm Ricardo Montalban:

Tanx for the linkage, Glenn!
  Tue. 3/27/12 1:04pm Ricardo Montalban:

I heard that too, Carmichael! He also said his Deiter was paradoxically really into hockey.

  Tue. 3/27/12 1:17pm Carmichael:

Hey, I like Agitation Free! I thought they were a French band?!
Tue. 3/27/12 1:18pm Dan in Seattle:

How 'bout some waffles SS?
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:19pm DDDJJJ666:

  Tue. 3/27/12 1:29pm Ricardo Montalban:

I only recently learned that Senor Coconut is a German dude. Duh! You'd think with his Kraftwerk fetish, I would've figured it out. I was fooled by his authentic sounding Latin American nom de plum.
Why, he looks as Latin as Dieter Meier!
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:30pm DDDJJJ666:

Krauts sometimes rock a surprisingly Latin look. Prolly cuz they hid in South America for so long.
  Tue. 3/27/12 1:31pm Carmichael:

I will not become older? Do I have that right? This show is really tugging at my school German from the 70s ...
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:32pm DDDJJJ666:

Let's Dorian Grey this shit!
  Tue. 3/27/12 1:32pm Ricardo Montalban:

I love how all of Heino's records have that South America, Mexico vibe. It's like he's coming from The Man in the High Castle/alternate reality where Germany's already annexed all of the continent.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:34pm DDDJJJ666:

I think it was a German fetish.I blame Tommy Motollo. I have a Heino record that has a pop-up in the middle, which is my fetish.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:36pm DDDJJJ666:

Um, this song ROCKS!
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:37pm DDDJJJ666:

This makes me feel like Ian Curtis staring at a flashing red light.
  Tue. 3/27/12 1:40pm Ricardo Montalban:

Any track with a German girl talking in the background is alright by me. She could be describing how to use a corkscrew, for all I'd know. In my head, she's Ulrike Meinhof, who shot a red flag right into my heart.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:42pm DDDJJJ666:

Totes. My list goes like this: Red heads, German chicks reading assembly instructions, all others.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:42pm DDDJJJ666:

Most of this stuff is still un-reissued. Unfortunately, when it is, it will probably be put out in beautiful, space-wasting, hard-to-use Vinyl On Demand box sets with corners ruined in shipping.
  Tue. 3/27/12 1:45pm Ricardo Montalban:

And over-priced to the point it makes a valiant argument for bit torrent and MP3 compression
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 1:47pm DDDJJJ666:

VOD is really getting nuts. I wish he would put out individual records or double LPs.
  Tue. 3/27/12 1:49pm robyn:

yeah, why IS german new wave better? there's a distinctly different sound but i don't know what makes it that way.

  Tue. 3/27/12 2:01pm Ricardo Montalban:

I've seen the pic of one of the girls on Sylvie and Babs show up in lots of British men's mags from the 50s/60s. She was like an English budget pinup girl. I can't remember her name though. She's the one who's really pointy.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:03pm DDDJJJ666:

They are great models.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:05pm DDDJJJ666:

I'm surprised the Bal Pare records continue to go un-reissued. They are both fantastisch!

  Tue. 3/27/12 2:30pm Ricardo Montalban:

Had heard of PRA, but didn't know they were doing such a thing as this - how you say it - inter-net radio?
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:32pm DDDJJJ666:

They had an actual FM band going, but then a thing happened and now it's all streaming.
  Tue. 3/27/12 2:33pm Ricardo Montalban:

I remember the FM thing. For some reason, I had a vision of them squatting in the West Hills in camouflage with a little transmitter. This is not the case, nein?
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:34pm DDDJJJ666:

They were downtown, but that was a couple years ago. Now it's in SE near Plan B.
  Tue. 3/27/12 2:35pm Ricardo Montalban:

Rigght by KBOO, then.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:36pm DDDJJJ666:

There was a transmitter seizure thing that happened. You'd think those things were made out of heroin for all the hubub that goes into removing them.
  Tue. 3/27/12 2:36pm Ricardo Montalban:

The FCC removed it?
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:37pm DDDJJJ666:

Sort of ish. Tony & I have done sets there as well.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:37pm DDDJJJ666:

Yeah, FCC.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:38pm DDDJJJ666:

In other words, a thing happened. Now it's to legit to quit.
  Tue. 3/27/12 2:39pm Ricardo Montalban:

Funny. I had no idea they were there and I am in that part of town frequently. Shows you what I know.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:41pm DDDJJJ666:

It's very small. You need a metal detector to find it.
  Tue. 3/27/12 2:43pm Ike:

Funny how the FCC will seize transmitters in other places, but not in the NYC/NJ area, and certainly not when it's an unlicensed reggae station in Paterson interfering with WFMU. Gee, is the FCC afraid to go into Paterson but not Portland? Nah, COULDN'T BE!
  Tue. 3/27/12 2:45pm Ricardo Montalban:

Not sure why that is. Portland used to have a fairly robust pirate radio thing going on. Still may, but I live far enough from the environs of that fair city that I wouldn't be able to tune any in.
Avatar Tue. 3/27/12 2:46pm DDDJJJ666:

I think it was low priority for the FCC, but my understanding is that one of the DJ's was on another radio show and managed to stupidly reveal the location of the transmitter, as in exactly, so the boyz rolled up and grabbed that shit.

Does the FCC have a basement full of confiscated transmitters? I want to transmit from there.

i wonder if it's like our grade school teachers and squirtguns. At the end of the year, you can get your transmitter back. Or lie and get another kid's better transmitter

Thanks again to Tony Coulter, and my wife Erica who was the playlist queen, coffee maker and whose lap acted as a cat receptacle. Tony will return next week, so don't despair.
