Hullo dere. Today's show will be all Greek music -- rock and experimental, that is, not bouzouki and such. Also, thanks so much to everyone that pledged during the marathon! See you in a couple of minutes.
  12:01pm
BSI:

Actually catching the show from the beginning for once...! Heck & such!
Avatar 12:02pm
tonyc:

Hey there, BSI!
  12:02pm
Alf from Upstate:

Welcome back, Tony!
Avatar 12:04pm
tonyc:

Thanks Alf from Upstate! Same to you!!

tonyc:

By the way, on the off chance that any Greek speakers tune in at any point, I'd be curious to know what some of today's lyrics mean. I know one track I'll be playing later is from an opera about a man obsessed with his testicles.
  12:12pm
ricardo montalbanitis:

OPA, Tony!
  12:13pm
Van in DC:

Greetings Tony! Little late but hopefully just fashionably so :)
  12:13pm
Dervish:

A man obsessed with his testicles? Aren't you being a bit redundant there, Tony?
Avatar 12:16pm
tonyc:

Hey there, Van! We're just getting rolling....
Dervish: But he thinks his testicles have magical powers -- still, you may have a point. (Greetings too!)
Avatar 12:16pm
tonyc:

Opa, Senor M!
  12:19pm
ricardo montalbanitis:

Yeah, lyrically, this is all Greek to me.
It does make me want to smash my dishes though.
  12:19pm
Doug S.:

Tony, a man thinking his testicles have magic powers? Now you are being completely redundant.
Avatar 12:20pm
tonyc:

Hiya, Doug!!
  12:23pm
Van in DC:

Greetings Oh Magical & Mighty Stream Master Doug!
  12:27pm
Brass Knuckles:

Where'd you find all this Greek stuff?
  12:30pm
BSI:

Magicles!
Avatar 12:31pm
tonyc:

Hey Brass Knuckles! (Can I call you Brass?) 'Twas collected over the years, mostly. Got a batch of things from a guy in Greece last year as well -- which is part of what gave me the idea for the show.
  12:32pm
ricardo montalbanitis:

Only you, Tony, would have enough of Greek rock music to do a complete show on it.
When are we getting a show on Flemish New Wave?
Avatar 12:33pm
tonyc:

The record on now I found in a Greek souvenir shop on West 40th St. in Manhattan.
  12:38pm
Doug S.:

Hi Tony and Hi Van!
Avatar 12:39pm
tonyc:

Many thanks to Doug for pointing me to this Mike Rozakis track....
  12:40pm
Doug S.:

If I played it, it wouldn't sound as good.
Avatar 12:41pm
tonyc:

Next up is a snippet from that opera about a man and his tescticles. Greek speakers, please report for duty.
  12:44pm
BSI:

deploy the magicles!
but first: this electronic bit is the lovely.
  12:45pm
ricardo montalbanitis:

Wonderful! This is amazing stuff!
  12:46pm
Τα Παιδιά Των Λουλουδιών:

Someone recently uploaded that movie "She Knew No Other Way" on youtube, but forget about subtitles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_swV2GjUbDw

No other way than what, I can't help wondering.
  12:56pm
conrad:

I actually do have a groovy bouzouki-a-go-go album from the '60s or '70s featuring some pop/rock covers that would do well here.
Mutant Sounds features Greek stuff sometimes - the founder of the site, Jim, is Greek.

Did that Nana Mouskouri chick ever do anything we should know about?
Avatar 12:58pm
tonyc:

Hey Conrad! Don't know much about Nana Mouskouri -- but I have always dug her style in eyewear.
  1:09pm
Van in DC:

That sounds like hurling...hopefully that's not you Tony :)
Avatar 1:10pm
tonyc:

Nope, not me -- I was careful not to eat too many baklava.
  1:10pm
BSI:

This Christou thing is beyond perfect-plus.
  1:13pm
Martha:

This show is knocking my socks off, folding them and putting them away.
Avatar 1:14pm
tonyc:

Hey Martha! I'll do whatever it takes to get you to pick up your socks....
  1:20pm
Martha:

I'm hoping this does the trick with my linens and towels.
Avatar 1:33pm
tonyc:

Early Vangelis is so much better than his later better known cosmic muzak. Definitely worth checking out....
  1:35pm
Carmichael:

Hey Tony, just coming aboard. Hello, everyone. Greek, eh? Sounds good, but there's sure a lot of typing in that playlist.
  1:37pm
Van in DC:

I really like this Vangelis. What a great name.
Avatar 1:37pm
tonyc:

Tricky typing, yes! (Greetings, Carmichael!)
Avatar 1:37pm

Vangelis in DC?

What no Demis Roussos?
  1:45pm
Carmichael:

Now I'm hungry for dolmas.
Avatar 1:45pm

Nathan: You're a mind reader!! He's coming up next!
Avatar 1:51pm
tonyc:

No Socrates Drank the Conium, though, unfortunately -- don't have and couldn't put my hands on anything by them.
  1:53pm
Nathan:

@Tonyc Phew! I was getting worried.
  1:59pm
Ike:

Sounds good! OK, gotta go. The boss may emerge from his wealthy cocoon at any moment and will grind me up into dolmas if he catches me looking at playlists and comments again, but I'll be listening.

Almost sounds like Asvestopoulos is singing about keytar.
Avatar 2:03pm
tonyc:

Wouldn't want you to get made into dolmas, Ike! Run while you can....
  2:06pm
Carmichael:

Now this is the 1st Greek band I actually know!
  2:07pm
conrad:

There's an album by Socrates Drank the Conium on the Egg City Radio blog - dont know if its' still up, tho.
Avatar 2:11pm
tonyc:

Conrad: Thanks for the tip! I did poke around a bit on the blogosphere, but either the bit rate was too low or the links were dead. I'll play 'em at some point in the future....
  2:15pm
Van in DC:

I'm glad I was on headset for that, here at work in cubicle-land...
  2:19pm
john & wendy:

That T. Rex song would be "Life's a Gas"

On a side note, any NFL fans, the fun is about to begin for free agency
Avatar 2:28pm

Is that the National Feta League you're referring to?
  2:29pm
Urania:

Great playlist! Bravo!
  2:29pm

National Falafel League.
  2:29pm
Urania:

Falafel is not Greek.
  2:33pm
Carmichael:

It's Greek to me.

Thanks, Urania!!

And sorry for the temporary playlist chaos there. All is under control now....
Avatar 2:42pm

As just mentioned, the next show -- on 3/27 -- will be a fill-in. I'll be back with a new show on 4/10. Mark your calenders!
Avatar 2:49pm

Thanks Tony, gotta run.
