Railroads created time zones. The feds created daylight savings on the unproven theory that it saved fuel or resources during World War I. The Germans started it in 1916, and the US was one of the last of the involved countries to follow, in 1918.

Friends of mine, brothers, were chosen to be a Nielsen family. They got $4 per TV hooked up, no matter how many. They lived in a small apartment. Their father was TV repair man, he had endless supply. They hooked many TVs! i think it was paying the rent. Looked like PC Richards.
