@Joe: I checked and t was released in late 1971 (Band of Gold was 1970). There are several singles in between, so it's not a direct follow-up. But I guess it sounds like a stab at "Freda can do love songs that are happy and not about shocking disappointment"...

Final thought - Dave Davies new stuff (as the Aschere Project) is totally unKinks-like, but I like it a lot. Really glad DJ Julie turned me on to it. The only possible frame of reference is 70s-80s Dredd Foole vs. current Dredd Foole - the complete stylist change is astounding

Hmm, instrumental 1981 album. Amanda Nazario just played from Richard Thompson's 1983 album "Hand of Kindness", she rec'd highly. The song she played was very Cajun tinged. With accordion played by Richard!

I used to have a P F Sloan record in the 70s called Raised on Records. Good songwriter.

and that was probably because it was an italian song written by a english beat band working in italy... but an english translation was made and recorded by a different band back in england BEFORE the original italian was released.

@mike: Ah. Although different confusing versions by the Grass Roots would prob be best expressed by "Where Were You When I Needed You" -- no less than THREE different versions of P.F. Sloan's song were recorded and released from 1965-66, by three different bands all called the Grass Roots!
