Nope, Romney's dad was a 1960s/70s moderate Republican a la Nelson Rockefeller. For example, Milliken very publicly endorsed Kerry over Bush in 2004. I still have relatives in MI, so I hear about this stuff :-)

The current Romney won elections in Massachusetts as a moderate pragmatist. He started moving right on social issues only a few years back when he decided to try for the presidency -- otherwise, he'd never have a shot at winning many Republican primaries in various southern and interior states.
