Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from January 17, 2012 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

  3:05pm
Woo:

Beer
  3:05pm
andymorphic:

i a hearing beers....but i hear that most of the time anyway
  3:07pm
Cheri Pi:

Give me some beer too while you're up.
  3:09pm
Stevel:

Beer+beans=heartache.
  3:13pm
Chris:

think i'm in love, probably just hungry
  3:14pm
kat330:

@Stevel: Or at least intestinal ache.
  3:19pm
Stevel:

kat330: Its in the neighborhood.
  3:26pm
?:

Hey Brian,
I'm eating soup and listening in!
  3:26pm
mick:

haha...this sounds like oasis
  3:27pm
Cheri Pi:

I thought it sounded like that REM guy...
  3:28pm
Letha:

That question-mark was me!
  3:28pm
kat330:

Yeah, Cheri, I was just going to say that, too.
  3:28pm
andymorphic:

is it lee ranaldo?
  3:30pm
Cheri Pi:

Hi Letha! What kind of soup are you eating? I had cold carrot/ginger/coconut about an hour ago.
  3:30pm
kat330:

It was (the Stipe sound-alike).
  3:32pm
kat330:

I noticed after a certain age, everything and everyone looks like/sounds like/acts like/paints like, u.s.w. Or mash-ups of different images and sounds. Fave game at home.
  3:33pm
Letha:

Homemade chicken/pork/lamb broth - all made from leftover meals with carrots and pasta. A gigantic pot - now frozen and taken out in small increments. Very good!
  3:34pm
Letha:

Plus -homemade whole wheat bread with sunflower seed, oats, flax seed, wheat berries - no sugar! Yum!!!
  3:35pm
Cheri Pi:

Isn't homemade stock wonderful? It takes 15 seconds to throw vegetable ends, & whatnots in a freezer bag. Sunday is my stock making day.
Avatar 3:35pm
BT:

Hey everybody
  3:35pm
Cheri Pi:

Oh Hey Bt!
  3:37pm
Letha:

Yes Sundays - bread day!
  3:38pm
Letha:

I'm loving all the tracks! Super out there! Love it!
  3:39pm
kat330:

@BT: Hey, thanks for this track.
  3:42pm
Cheri Pi:

Gili Synth =good band name.
  3:42pm
why:

hey Brian, hey everybody! thanks for such great radio & music from Russia)
  3:45pm
Mike East:

@Cheri Pi - Yes, Sunday night into Monday is when I make my stock. I just throw everything in the slow cooker.
  3:47pm
Cheri Pi:

A house smells like a home when there's bread baking or stock simmering. I'm making veggie soup w/ tarragon after work. :)
  3:48pm
mike bell:

r.i.p. jimmy castor :(
  3:48pm
Mike East:

ooh. Tarragon. Nice. I usually go with fresh thyme and bay leaves. I may have to start branching out.
  3:50pm
kat330:

I can't get back into baking, though I made a lot of bread at one point. I'm a savory cook, using herbs from our garden, reductions, butter compounds, and the like,
  3:51pm
Cheri Pi:

I'm gonna add a pinch of thyme but the main focus will be tarragon tonight, it really brightens up a dish.
  3:52pm
Letha:

Soup-wize - I also have frozen, the most amazing 'Little-bit-of-Everything' soup. Do ya'll remember Mee Noodles on 13th st - I don't know if it's still there - but they had THE best soup. I recreated it - lot's of Shitake mushrooms! YUM!
  3:54pm
brian:

that picchio dal pozzo song is very good
  3:55pm
Cheri Pi:

You always have to save & freeze your mushroom stems kids! They make the best soup stock.
  3:56pm
kat330:

Ok, I get it. Bye all. Talk amongst and enjoy yourselves.
  3:59pm
dc pat:

that does it, I gotta make a good veggie stock...maybe tomorrow. I rely on the bought kind too much...
  4:00pm
Cheri Pi:

Newest Internet fad started by WFMU'ers: dub prog tracks into The Jefferson's video clips.
  4:01pm
dc pat:

dang, I missed Renaldo twice today....
  4:04pm
BSI:

holy crap, this stuff here.
  4:06pm

Letha: There's a Mee Noodle on 49th and First. Sometimes the Lo Mein has the magic ingredient and sometimes it don't.

  4:11pm
Cheri Pi:

Back to beer, I watched Strange Brew last night on the netflix, and drank many yuelingyuelings (sp)
  4:14pm
bill:

BT did you ever try Fu's on 51st and second? Closed about 10 years ago. I was looking at the menu, when some people walked by and said, "Are you thinking of ordering there? Because YOU SHOULD!" And they were right, everything there was exceptional.
  4:14pm
TEKNOEL:

OH THAT'S NICE - PLUG! Reminds me Funky Porchini. I've wanted to hear this for a little while thanks for playing it!!
  4:15pm
BSI:

[wakes up suddenly].... eh? Beer? whuh?
Avatar 4:16pm
BT:

I used to live on 51st and 2nd actually, but i think it was gone by that time. There was a Turkish place called Sip-Sak and the owner was an enormo asshole!
  4:17pm
Cheri Pi:

Take off, hosers (j.k!)
  4:17pm
Cheri Pi:

that was uncalled for. I'm sorry.
  4:19pm
dc pat:

My brother and I use to listen to Bob and Doug's record all the time. "On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me....a beer..."
  4:19pm

As I age, I reluctantly recognize the realities. I will never live in New York and discover or pursue references for good Chinese food there.

BT so I guess you got out before the crane fell. A little ceviche place had just opened next to Blockheads but it was destroyed before I could try it. Of all the luck!
  4:21pm
dc pat:

I dunno b/p. My good buddy, in his 40's just moved to Brooklyn couple years ago. There's always a chance...

  4:26pm
bill:

BT Angelo's musta been before my time. A to Z just shut their doors this year - BIG loss. Where else can you get watch batteries, echinacea and spaghetti sauce in one place?
  4:34pm
jeff:

  4:35pm
bill:

Do you have any Black stridulation?
  4:38pm

  4:39pm

BT Abatino's pizza on First burned down and moved to 50th-2nd
  4:40pm
bill:

Not everybody can play three records at once and make it work.
  4:54pm
hubba:

Can't judge a book by it's cover, but you know what you're getting with a name like "Rifflord."
  4:55pm
Cheri Pi:

Rifflord, I must acquire...
  4:57pm
hubba:

M. Gira Young Gods?

Wow, I've only heard of two bands in the whole set. That's what my wife says WFMU is all about, aggressive eclecticism.
