Listener comments!

  4:06pm Van in Dallas:

Hi Doug! I'll try to remember to stop back in when you are live...hope my WFMU app has the ability to tap into GTDS stream? Guess I'll find out later :)
  4:19pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey there Van! I'm sitting here putting the final spit-shine on this evening's show. (Hope I didn't spray you.)
  4:20pm Doug Schulkind:

FYI Van...
if you're using the WFMU app for iPhone or Droid, you CAN access the Give the Drummer Radio stream!
  5:32pm Van in Dallas:

Yay! Ready to go with the stream on my iPod :)
  5:33pm Doug Schulkind:

Nice! I recently (finally) got an iThingy and the app works like a dream.
  5:34pm glenn:

i've just sorta realized how many great and near great musicians there are with the last name hawkins. coleman, dale, ronnie, ted, hawkshaw. who am i missing? there's enough for a friday morning 3 hour show, prolly.
  5:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Screaming Jay! Erskine! Edwin! Who else?
  5:38pm Maricôt:

Work break! Missed the show!
  5:39pm Doug Schulkind:

No! Maricôt! The show is about to begin (in 20 minutes).
  5:40pm glenn:

oh, jeeez. screamin' jay. talk about not seeing the forest for the trees.
  5:42pm Maricôt:

I missed being able to listen to the show, but now I can (because I'm off work 'til next year). These crazy Portuguese speakers.
  5:43pm Doug Schulkind:

How about Andy Hawkins of Blind Idiot God?

So glad you can listen, Maricôt!
  5:45pm glenn:

him i don't know.
  5:48pm Doug Schulkind:

Blind Idiot God were a thrash(ish)/dub trio from St. Louis. Absolutely the loudest band I ever heard. Made massively, monstrously gorgeous music. I use one of their records as a music bed sometimes during mic breaks on the show.
  5:49pm glenn:

los lobos is the loudest band i ever saw, believe it or not. there's ernie hawkins, who's a great blues/ ragtime guitarist.
  5:50pm listener james from westwood:

good tuesday all!
  5:52pm Doug Schulkind:

My grin widened to maniacally menacing with your arrival, Listener James from Westwood.
  5:53pm glenn:

your entry fee for this evening is a previously unmentioned musician with last name hawkins
  5:59pm listener james from westwood:

i bring out the mania in people. it's a talent.
good gravy, could there be any hawkinses left to unearth?
  6:00pm ndbob:

evening Doug and everyone!
  6:00pm Artie:

Ted, perhaps?
  6:01pm glenn:

there may be more than one ted, i think.
  6:02pm Artie:

Well, there's my +1 then.
  6:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Forget get +1, how about X1!
  6:07pm Van in Dallas:

No Comments access from the app? :(
  6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Crikey! Sorry about that Van. Does the app give access to main WFMU playlist comments?
  6:10pm Van in Dallas:

I have to go thru weB browser
  6:11pm ndbob:

I got an IPhone a few weeks ago, so I will check out the WFMU app
  6:13pm Artie:

WFMU App is the new SiriusXM.
  6:13pm Van in Dallas:

The show is loud &clear and I can get to playlist so all is well :)
  6:14pm Doug Schulkind:

I remember now that I had the same experience, Van. I was standing on line buying my Thanksgiving turkey and trying to comment during Amanda's show.
  6:16pm Van in Dallas:

I remember that :)
  6:16pm Artie:

Yep. Gotta go to e-mail for the playlist URL, launch in web browser, scroll about for reading, post comment, do the maths, then back around. Pre-optimization, but just glad for the sounds.
  6:31pm listener james from westwood:

i need to go to home despot, but i don't want to leave this show! (i have a dumbphone, so my internet link would remain at home.)
  6:33pm Doug Schulkind:

When I first moved into this new house in P-Burgh, I had to make dozens of little trips to Home Depot for little fixemups. Every dang time I arrived during those early weeks, some HD employee would advise me on some tool or product, "I was just using that XXXX recently and I was very happy with it." Just like management told them say...
  6:34pm Van in Dallas:

Yeah been a great show!
  6:34pm glenn:

hah. i call it home despot too. or homeless depot. those pricks of misery.
  6:35pm glenn:

i have an old style hardware store a block away from me. i LOVE that store.
  6:38pm listener james from westwood:

the pain in the ass is this is over a huge cfl bulb that lasted all of 3 days. second time i've bought one of these and both crapped out early. if i get an employee supplying me with advice on it, i'm gonna ask him where he found the ones that actually work correctly.
  6:38pm Doug Schulkind:

A few months before I left Brooklyn, my favorite store, Sid's Hardware, closed. It was a sign that it was time for me to go.
  6:39pm ndbob:

HD - or any hardware store actually - is a nightmare to me - given my complete ineptness in using tools, etc.
  6:54pm Van in Dallas:

Nice that my battery held out! Really have enjoyed the show, thanks Doug!
  6:55pm Andy S.:

Is it just the guitar solo or is this song a translation of Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes' "The Love I Lost?"
  6:56pm listener james from westwood:

there's still a small hardware store one town over, and a five-and-dime in my town, so one can still get some small bit of gear without disappearing into the tesseract that is home depot.
  6:56pm Doug Schulkind:

My pleasure, Van!
Quick, listeners, pull out your Harold Melvin in the next 4 minutes and answer Andy S.
  7:00pm Andy S.:

On second thought, the song (by Dick Khoze?) bore no resemblance to "The Love I Lost I Lost" EXCEPT for that unmistakable guitar lick.
  7:02pm ndbob:

excellent show of course Doug!
  7:03pm listener james from westwood:

so much great music from one country and of course just scratching the surface. thanks for scratching the itch, doug!
  7:05pm Doug Schulkind:

Enjoyed the hell out of that show. Thanks for hanging with me everyone!
  11:20am Bob:

Looks like the "Pop‑up player" link on this page actually links to last Friday's show. Great show, but I'm curious about last night's!
  11:24am Parq:

The pop up link for this show takes the listener to the archive for the 12/9 show. Not that I mind listening to the 12/9 show, but if you could get a proper link for the 12/13 show put up, I would most appreciate.
  11:25am Parq:

Bob is having the same problem, I see.
  12:34pm Doug Schulkind:

Bob and Parq, I'm told the link has been fixed! Not "fixed" like a little puppy, but, you know, fixed.
  10:20pm Parq:

That's the stuff! Just finishing it now -- worth waiting for!
