Listener comments!

  9:05am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

how'dy do?
  9:07am
Liz B.:

Hi DCE, and anyone else out there! Monday hits us yet again...
  9:08am
Sam:

Let's get this party started!
  9:10am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I was subjected to some bad Christmas music this weekend and I need the healing powers you so readily provide.
  9:14am
Liz B.:

I shall do my best to heal and un-christmas you!
  9:27am
Liz B.:

I saw these two guys on the train this weekend showing off clothes they just purchased at a hip Brooklyn second-hand store: they were SO proud of their new (old) ugly ass x-mas sweaters!! You know, the ones with appliques and bells hanging off 'em... oh geez.
  9:28am
Parq:

Liz, those sweaters weren't ugly, they were post-ironic.
  9:30am
Sam:

It's kitsch. The cheaper and crappier it is, the more ironic and expensive it is. Very lame if you ask me.
  9:30am
glenn:

step AWAY from the hipsters.
  9:32am
Sam:

Like that Simpsons where they try to gentrify the Squidport, and some yuppy goes into Moe's and he's all disappointed and says "Hey this isn't faux-dive, this is a dive!"
  9:34am
Parq:

Ah, I was hoping the W.Shjips set would make the FMA. Downloads in my near future.
  9:36am
lewis:

I'm with Parq!
  9:36am
Liz B.:

There must be some sort of psychological explanation for the reversion to one's most nightmarish childhood clothing. A pal of mine was dating this guy who always wore this old/ugly snoopy sweater and it was waaay too small for him (sleeves were about 6" too short).
  9:38am
glenn:

maybe he was just a broke, cheap ass mahfucker.
  9:39am
Parq:

Liz, there is a precise, esoteric psychological term for guys like that -- they're "jerks".
  9:39am
:

i like Uiutna track
  9:42am
dc pat:

well all's I have to say is, it's getting harder and harder to find anything good at second hand shops. Checked some out around my Mom's house in PA and came up with NOTHING. That's how I use to keep myself stocked up on leather jackets, no more.
  9:49am
AbeSomething:

@dc pat: Do you think it has to do with the down economy or are we still suffering from thrift shopping being the hip thing? I was recently thrifting in RI and also came home empty handed.
  9:49am
Raf:

Greetings from Portland, Oregon, Liz! Digging this Prefab Messiahs tune.
  9:52am
Liz B.:

Hi Raf, thanks for checking in! You're up early! New (old) Prefab Messiahs tracks were recently added to the FMA, nice stuff.
  9:54am
brian:

hi liz, do you know if the ananas song you are playing been released on physical media?
  9:55am
Liz B.:

Hey Brian, not sure. They are on a label called Los Emes Del Oso, which adds tunes to the FMA, but I'm not sure if they do physical releases or not. Lotta great stuff, though!
  9:57am
dc pat:

Abe: My theory is it's a combination. Fist, all the trendy shop owners are combing though the stuff before we get our hands on it and selling it for more at they're shops. Second, we're running out of the supply of cool stuff. When I first started shopping in my teens, you could get amazing mod-sharkskin suits everywhere. Now forget it. Same with leather coats etc. I imagine the economy has something to do with it too--more competition..
  9:58am
dc pat:

their, not they are!
  10:04am
pgw in mntclr:

was it the "Forever Lazy" commercial?
  10:05am
Liz B.:

AHHH, PGW, you read my mind!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S2p7AiNX9g
  10:09am
dc pat:

I wonder if the hip Brooklyn types are going to start wearing those around in a couple years...
  10:10am
pgw in mntclr:

i was out with a friend around Thanksgiving, and it came on the TV in the bar. we both stopped talking to one another, entirely transfixed by the commercial, then sort of stared at each other in disbelief after it was over.
  10:11am
monica:

heard this twink last night and it had YOUR NAME written all over it!
  10:11am
Liz B.:

I couldn't tell if the Forever Lazy commercial was a parody or the real deal! Reminds me of that Simpson's episode where Homer has a toilet installed in his easy chair.
  10:12am
the glowing one:

@pgw: yeah, they are that awesome, right?
  10:12am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

this is so dorky, I love it!
  10:12am
Jennique:

Morning Liz. Just reading previous comments and I hate to admit it, but I saw ugly Christmas sweaters being sold in Urban Outfitters for over $50. Whenever I go in that store I walk out of there not buying anything, muttering to myself "what was I thinking?"
  10:12am
ditdoc:

So this isn't the Think Pink Twink. I didn't think it was.
  10:13am
the glowing one:

all that was missing from the twink song was dog barks
  10:13am
pgw in mntclr:

yeah. i think it was a combination of the tailgating scene and the "back flap" that did it for me.
  10:15am
dc pat:

I also like a "blanket" is just too confusing and difficult to deal with.
  10:15am
Liz B.:

Love me some Twink!
  10:16am
glenn:

forever lazy commercials would be better if they had al swearingen in them.
  10:17am
still b/p:

Forever Lazy is a Snuggie conceptual step-sibling, yes? But can it have the same cultural Wiki-worthy reach?
"On January 30, 2009 a group organized a pub crawl[11] wearing Snuggies in Cincinnati, OH. In the following months they went on to complete over 40 more across the nation. Later, a group organized a Snuggie pub crawl in Chicago to raise money for an African orphanage, which led to similar sanctioned and independent events throughout the United States.[3][4] A worker at Americans for Tax Reform, a conservative think tank, started the Facebook page "The Snuggie Cult", and convinced fellow conservatives including Joe the Plumber, Tucker Carlson, and Andrew Breitbart to pose wearing the robes."
  10:18am
pgw in mntclr:

+2 for glenn
  10:20am
the glowing one:

so snuggies are the tea party's definition of being hip and ironic
  10:21am
the glowing one:

that's one more reason to rather go with lazy forever, the name itself is such a strong political anti-establishment statement
  10:21am
still b/p:

It would be easy and so very wrong to wish for a few choice Snuffocation accidents.
  10:23am
dc pat:

this drummer is ape--shit.
  10:23am
Sam:

The snuggie is a good metaphor for the tea party - warm and comforting but also constraining and conformist. Not to mention being boring, dorky and COMPLETELY un-sexy.
  10:24am
still b/p:

Best marathon swag ever: the Forever LizB garment.
  10:25am
Mike Sin:

Good morning, Liz! Hey, I'm just lounging around in my vintage polka-dot Dr. Denton pajamas wrapped in a Snuggie while listening to you deliver the trax.
  10:26am
Liz B.:

You are SO dressed for the occasion, Mike!
  10:57am
Carmichael:

I'm in a friggin' suit and tie. Doesn't quite work for the tuneage. But hi to everyone anyway.
  10:59am
dc pat:

I'm wearing a 3 Chord Monte shirt.
  11:07am
Jennique:

The keyboards of this song remind me of an alarm clock.
  11:19am
Mike East:

I'm wearing Radio Es Amor Tshirt today. Been digging the sounds, today, Liz!
  11:25am
dc pat:

yeah Tandoori Knights!
  11:29am
dc pat:

I love when it gets into the stupid punk on LizB's show...
  11:33am
tsol:

μου αρέσει πολύ ο WFMU!!!
  11:56am
Liz B.:

Thanks for listening today, everybody! You always make Mondays bearable!
  11:57am
lewis:

and vice versa!!
  11:58am
brian:

i love most all of the eccentric soul comps from numero. they also have amazing cover photography!

by the way, liz, every time i play vivian goldman, i half-expect to hear your voice.
