Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from November 8, 2011 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

  3:06pm
Cheri Pi:

  3:07pm
BT:

  3:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Jumped out of the world a couple times now.
Hey everybody!
  3:10pm
Cheri Pi:

I want this band to play at my prom.
  3:14pm
Julian:

A good start.
  3:21pm
Carmichael:

Hiya Brian and listeners.
  3:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hiya Carmichael!
I ordered the later 60s psychedelic Beach Boys CDs you recommended--I've been enjoying them the past week! Thanks!
  3:25pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Brian and all the listeners.
  3:26pm
r i s k y:

GO BRIAN!! TRASH EM ALL!!!
  3:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

You mean, Thrash Em All!
  3:28pm
Cheri Pi:

BT-you're so evil.
  3:28pm
Carmichael:

@Matt: totally cool! I'm glad you're enjoying them.
  3:30pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

you think Balls of Liquor destroyed this person's mic in the process?
  3:30pm
juli:

they took everything about me and put it into a computer where they created this model of my mind. Yes! Using that model they managed to generate every thought I could possibly have in the next, say, 10 years. Which they then filtered through a probability matrix of some kind to - to determine everything I was gonna do in that period. So you see, she knew I was gonna lead the Army of the Twelve Monkeys into the pages of history before it ever even occurred to me. She knows everything I'm ever gonna do before I know it myself. How's that?
  3:30pm
BT:

"As a bum would take a swig from a bottle, I'll take a life...."
  3:31pm
BT:

I recorded the Balls of Liquor on my iPhone!
  3:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

@BT: Awesome! That explains the lo-fi-ness of this mix, but entirely at home on this show! Kudos!
  3:33pm
Carmichael:

Juli, why are you so obsessed with 12 Monkeys?
  3:34pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I think it totally changed her life, Carm.
  3:34pm
bill:

BT you're a real pro
  3:34pm
Cecile:

Carm, I hope you recommended Surf's Up to Matt.
  3:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Cecile: The very same! (Sunflower / Surf's Up).
The Surf's Up album is great, but my favs I think are both Friends and 20/20, paired on one CD for our convenience!
  3:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Long Promised Road" is an amazing one; I heard that before, and was pleasantly surprised to find it on Surf's Up, it's orig release.
  3:39pm
Carmichael:

Do any of your friends believe it's really the Beach Boys? The quizzical looks are priceless.
  3:41pm
jljl:

This Uncle acid CD is so cool, but such a horrible name.
  3:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

YES! Bogie in The Maltese Falcon to Peter Lorre: "Listen pal the next time you're slapped you take it, and like it!!" It takes a REAL man to bitch slap like that!
  3:41pm
patrick:

brian, great start so far.... happy election day!
  3:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: I haven't played them to my peers yet--some are aware that there was life after Surfing for the Beach Boys, but besides myself I don't think any have actually heard the songs yet. Will have to initiate them into this noble fraternity!
  3:52pm
BSI:

DOA = always my favorite TG record. Love hearing more material from that time period but can't imagine the flow of the original LP with extra tracks... It just ain't natural, man!
  3:55pm
BSI:

ah, ok, if it's on a supplemental disc, i can swing widdat.
  3:56pm
Carmichael:

Rubber balls and liqour?
  3:57pm
the Internet:

hey, hey whoa, big guy...
  4:00pm
Ike:

I wonder why the mic sounds so boiling hot on the AAC+ stream but not on the MP3 stream. That wasn't the case yesterday....
  4:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

Call of the Wild!! Wooooo! And this is a LIVE live set, happening before our very ears? (+/- 7 seconds?) So much the better!
  4:06pm
fun cakes:

Leland rocks!
  4:07pm
bill:

Ike - 128k MP3 stream is definitely quieter than it used to be
  4:09pm
Carmichael:

Can anyone there snap a quick pic? Would love to see the music as well.
  4:10pm
jljl:

This is good stuff. Can you please have them send music to WMBR in Boston?
  4:11pm
Ken:

The MP3 stream is the same volume as before - but all the other streams are much louder due to a new compressor we're trying out.
  4:16pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

well back off a little on the compression on the wimp stream, please--it's like everything is Metallica now
  4:17pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

*big blocky wav forms with no dynamics* are ugly
  4:17pm
Carmichael:

Aaahh, no wonder my pre-set volume levels have been blasting at me the last few days. Thanks, Kenneth.
  4:19pm
Seminal:

howdy from near Chicago
  4:19pm
Ike:

I don't notice much difference w/music, but talk sounds super harsh on AAC+ now, @Ken.
  4:23pm
Disclaimer:

New improved ultra compression is being utilized for your audio enjoyment and maximum fatigue! ROCK ON!!!
  4:32pm
hubba:

how long has burnt hills been at cruising altitude?

oh... hello!
  4:40pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

the auto-dialer has gained sentience!!
  4:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

...And just as quickly, exploding in mid air.
  4:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: But next time, we may not be so lucky...
  4:41pm
Carmichael:

Skynet has become aware.
  4:44pm
Cheri Pi:

I didn't know this was a cover!
  4:44pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

this is like Eddie Rabbit's alter-ego
  4:45pm
Indiana:

Lord, I can't go back there!
  4:46pm
BT:

Yeah, the Fall covered two R Dean Taylor songs, this un and There's a Ghost In My House
  4:46pm
Cheri Pi:

The Fall should cover I love a RainyNight.
  4:47pm
glenn:

lemon pipers, no?
  4:50pm
Carmichael:

He he ... why would anyone want to remake Ghost in My House?
  4:53pm
Cheri Pi:

I sound like this when I'm pissed off.
  4:54pm
BSI:

I sound like this at 4:15 most mornings.
  4:59pm
glenn:

that's not the theme from joe 90.
  5:02pm
Matt from Springfield:

Woooo! Go Adanowsky! That was great!
  5:02pm
BSI:

...it's always roosters or swans. You never see anything else in your RIDICULOUS hallucinations!
  5:07pm
Ben Drinken:

I have washed my BT t-shirt since back from record fair. I am cooking some bean soup and some beer pork roast. Unfortunately I forgot to put on my clean BT tshirt so I could get it all smelly and stain some more.
  5:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Whoa, pre-Fleetwood "Rhiannon" from Buckingham Nicks? Never heard this version! Very upbeat.
  5:08pm
Cecile:

ah, you and those Fleetwoods Brian.
  5:09pm
BT:

  5:10pm
Ben Drinken:

  5:11pm
Nate in Detroit:

Funny, Lindsey Buckingham is playing tonight in the venue next door to my office.
  5:12pm
JT:

smokin show
  5:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

I love how the listeners here are "competitive" over who has the dirtiest BT shirt. Never any other show's shirt! :)
  5:13pm
glenn:

go see him. he's a great guitarist.
  5:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: I've seen Lindsey live before--he's Mr. "Magic Fingers" for a reason.
  5:15pm
ami ad:

Great tunes.Thanks Brian.
  5:17pm
BT:

Please send pix of you in states of filth in the tee. I will award the best pic on New Years a prize and put em up on the page. Email em to bt@wfmu.org! No scat/pee please
  5:17pm
Ben Drinken:

My other wfmu shirts show the filth more because they are light in color. But it is cool that The BT shirt is black because now it is even harder to end up with a real nasty shirt in the end
  5:18pm
BT:

There's the challenge
  5:20pm
kiemzi:

Don't sit too close to the stage, Nate. He's half crazy.
  5:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Wounded Galaxies Tap At The Window" -- love the title, goes with this piece well.
  5:34pm
Ben Drinken:

Which half is crazy? Left or right, bottom or top would be good to know.
  5:40pm
