The song was written in response to Jeff Lynne's father, Phil, being critical of Jeff's songwriting. His father, an avid classical music lover, did not like his Electric Light Orchestra songs, saying, "they've got no tune." To prove to his father that he could write a beautiful classical influenced song, Jeff wrote the rock ballad of Can't Get It Out Of My Head. As Jeff wrote it in the front room of his parent's home in Shard End, Birmingham, one could possibly surmise that Jeff heard his father's comment and almost immediately went to the recording equipment in the front room to record the demo and show up his father. Perhaps this comment even spurred Jeff to use a full orchestra on the album, rather than dubbed together cellos as was done before.

Rory -- Maybe you can smoke weed with George Clinton's daughter. He proudly brought her on stage when I saw a show earlier this summer, and she launched into a number that had a lot to do with gettin' high, and also about, um, particular human activity and female anatomy, in pretty raw terms. Andy SIrkis (Gollum) is doing the motion capture acting for Cornelius. It's also the first movie where the motion capture actors worked outside. It's cool.

I like what ever the Gottschalk dishes out, but it is equally welcome for listener commentary that counters a DJ’s selection.

Best example of recent mind was Joe Belock’s Neil Young pre-song narratives that went on for an hour and a half, with two versions of Down by the River, each about 15 minutes in length.

I think that owuld be the ebst, and I'm sur eit out there... tuning up, finger noodling, few chords here and there, complete concentration and then stops, begins mundane story abut buying butter milk for stray kitten, but the buttermilk was osur, and the kitten got sick, and had bowle troubles, etc.... a good show opener... occasionally get about 30 secodns into a song, and then stops.
