Listener comments!

Fri. 8/5/11 3:05pm Parliament Funkadelic and The Ohio Players:

@EW&F: Meet us in the parking lot after school, and we’ll see who the real superheroes are.
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:09pm DJKG:

i'm weating a george clinton tshirt! i swear to god!
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:11pm Rory:

George Clinton i wanna smoke weed with you.
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:17pm Bad Ronald:

Sweet ELO tune. Thanks Kurt!
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:19pm From jefflynnesongs.com:

The song was written in response to Jeff Lynne's father, Phil, being critical of Jeff's songwriting. His father, an avid classical music lover, did not like his Electric Light Orchestra songs, saying, "they've got no tune." To prove to his father that he could write a beautiful classical influenced song, Jeff wrote the rock ballad of Can't Get It Out Of My Head. As Jeff wrote it in the front room of his parent's home in Shard End, Birmingham, one could possibly surmise that Jeff heard his father's comment and almost immediately went to the recording equipment in the front room to record the demo and show up his father. Perhaps this comment even spurred Jeff to use a full orchestra on the album, rather than dubbed together cellos as was done before.
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:20pm Detroit Mac:

I Still think Roy Wood was the real crazy genius of ELO (and the MOVE)
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:21pm Cecile:

me too, Detroit Mac

did you get my minotaur pics from last week, Kurt?
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:23pm DJKG:

thanks for the info, jeff.com, and for the pics cecile!
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:30pm Mic:

The feeling's mutual, bud.
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:32pm still b/p:

Rory -- Maybe you can smoke weed with George Clinton's daughter. He proudly brought her on stage when I saw a show earlier this summer, and she launched into a number that had a lot to do with gettin' high, and also about, um, particular human activity and female anatomy, in pretty raw terms. Wouldn't any father beam?
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:33pm George:

Dat bitch a chip offa da ol' block.
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:34pm Cecile:

it looks amazing.
Andy SIrkis (Gollum) is doing the motion capture acting for Cornelius. It's also the first movie where the motion capture actors worked outside. It's cool.
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:35pm Detroit Mac:

I get sick of saying it, but concerning the Planet of the Apes... read the goddamn book. Like 99% of all movies made from books, the original is so much better (including Masterpiece Theater's ZEN series... read the Dibden novels)
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:37pm Books:

loser says, reading is so much work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:38pm DJKG:

detroit mac, really? i'm intrigued! i've never heard anyone mention the planet of the apes books!
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:39pm Detroit Mac:

And the 1,001 strings versions are easier to listen to than the original tunes!
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:39pm Handsome Harry:

Earth Wind and Fire! I'm pretty sure I was conceived to the sound of their sweet, sweet music.
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:40pm Mike East:

@Cecile - not to be a nerd, but he's playing Caeser in the new movies...Cornelius was from the orginal Planet of the Apes. Did you see him play Ian Dury in Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll?
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:41pm DJKG:

mike e, nerddom is welcome.
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:44pm Cecile:

Mike, you're right. I got it mixed up.

And no, I didn't see the Ian Dury movie.
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:47pm Detroit Mac:

Author: Pierre Boulle
Date: 1963
He also wrote Bridge Over the River Kwai... which also was made into a movie... (whistle along with me)
  Fri. 8/5/11 3:47pm Mike East:

I enjoyed it. I thought he was brilliant. I didn't find out til yesterday that it was the same guy that played Gollem. I'm actually really looking forward to the Planet of the Apes movie. Good chance I will go this weekend.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:02pm .gif:

Earth's the Wind of the Fire
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:02pm hubba:

dear lord... just devoured a deep fried, cheese filled, bacon wrapped, cheese sauce topped, pastrami covered beef frank... I made it back, but I don't know if I can make it home. Can I stay here?
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:03pm Detroit Mac:

I think this is chasing everybody away. No new posts?
(I cannot always agree with a DJ's choice, but I will defend to the death their right to make that choice)
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:03pm Gym Rat:

How many more reps of this exercise?
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:05pm Cecile:

I"m actually getting into this project. But enjoying the music.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:06pm Cecile:

yes, sir. Trombones are fine.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:07pm hubba:

I like what ever the Gottschalk dishes out, but it is equally welcome for listener commentary that counters a DJ’s selection.

Best example of recent mind was Joe Belock’s Neil Young pre-song narratives that went on for an hour and a half, with two versions of Down by the River, each about 15 minutes in length.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:08pm hubba:

That befuddled, delighted, upset, and annoyed listeners... which, is why we tune in.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:09pm Detroit Mac:

RE: Hubba... I heard that Neil Young set too. It got me to finally swear off reefer.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:10pm Gym Rat:

Like Elvis said: Shook Up!
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:14pm hubba:

I think that owuld be the ebst, and I'm sur eit out there... tuning up, finger noodling, few chords here and there, complete concentration and then stops, begins mundane story abut buying butter milk for stray kitten, but the buttermilk was osur, and the kitten got sick, and had bowle troubles, etc.... a good show opener... occasionally get about 30 secodns into a song, and then stops.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:15pm Kitty:

mew mew mew hic HEAVE scuse me

I'm sorry about my typing skills... not really.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:18pm DJKG:

hubba: that might have been my favorite show post ever. and/but i don't understand one bit of it.

(not that one, the other one.)
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:19pm DJKG:

thanks for the hubweber pic, T0!
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:20pm hubba:

"The spacecraft, Juno, [Micael] Bolton revealed, will carry three Lego figurines: Galileo, in honor of the astronomer, as well as Juno and Jupiter, who will be carrying his thunderbolts."
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:21pm T-Zero:

@DJKG: Getting a late start today. Great sets to slowly wake up.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:25pm T-Zero:

@DJKG: Now if you could just follow up with Subduing Demons in America (John Giorno)
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:25pm Estelle Reiner:

@hubba: I'll have what you're having.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:26pm Detroit Mac:

I remember playing this music on my trombone at the high school pep rally in 1968. Oh! how we cheered on our team!
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:27pm hubba:

kittens like buttermilf
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:28pm Sarah Palin:

  Fri. 8/5/11 4:29pm Sarah Palin:

Sounds more like Glow Coma to me.

Ponds cold creme is best for nice slide action, but freezes up in cold marching weather...
Fri. 8/5/11 4:53pm Professor Harold Hill:

@Mrs. R.: Just use the think method, and everything will slide along smoothly!
Fri. 8/5/11 4:55pm Mrs Roberts of Romper Room:

Have you even had your slide freeze up? The spit valve gets really gooey. Then you just have a big bugle at your mouth.
  Fri. 8/5/11 4:56pm Wise Guy:

Blow harder, honey!
  Fri. 8/5/11 5:03pm Thom Bell:

My motto: gamble and huff!
  Fri. 8/5/11 5:04pm DJKG:

  Fri. 8/5/11 5:05pm northguineahills:

The guys in high school used to call me "The Big Drip." Now, no one calls me. I got rid of my answering machine. I have a prepaid cell phone. Occasionally, I turn around, quickly, thinking, maybe i just couldn't hear them, but they're calling, just beyond the ornicco flow.

Dammit, I can't remember what the water-based installation at Figment at Governors Island is called. It makes beautiful dripping noises. With pots and pans or something like that. In a pedestrian underpass of sorts.
