Listener comments!

  12:08pm
J J:

What's in the pipeline today?
  12:10pm
Duane:

JJ: Daniel Collas and Sean Marquand from Phenomenal Handclap Band are swinging by later
  12:10pm
still b/p:

I'd Like to Get to Know You always reminds me of seeing Spanky and Our Gang doing it on a variety show when the song was current, with the band dressed up and sipping drinks in a cocktail party scene concept for the number.
  12:12pm
Duane:

still b/p: That was for the Ed Sullivan show. I have that on DVD. That's one of my fave 60's psych pop productions of the era
  12:19pm
still b/p:

I thought maybe Sullivan, then for no reason I can make sense of, I thought, "No, maybe it was a Wednesday..."
Like to see it again. I remember thinking at the time that the guy with the long slicked back hair seemed so unsuited to his suit, something that'd become much less incongruous within a few years after that.
  12:31pm
Handsome Harry:

This track from Ex Cops is mighty fine.
  12:38pm
Ike:

I loved that Sharkboy track. And the Ex-Cops was pretty dang good too (if that's what I thought it was, the next-to-last played, right?).
  12:43pm
Geo:

Gene Cornish of the Rascals was at the ponderosa stomp thing on sunday!
  12:45pm
Duane:

Geo: Oh Cool! I was bummed I couldn't go to that show. i had to go to a wedding. I heard it was great!
  12:47pm
humorless feminist:

I am trapped indoors at an office but
this show is bringing the summer inside. Thank you!
  12:49pm
Geo:

  12:49pm
mrs. marquand:

love this one.
  12:52pm
mrs. marquand:

thanks!
  12:52pm
Mike East:

@Geo - Those guys were all rehearsing here last week. I didn't notice any of the band. The ladies were taking all the spotlight. I had the broadcast on all day at a birthday party I was throwing. It sounded like a great time.
  12:53pm
Sean::

thanks mrs marquand
  12:57pm
Q-:

You sure this isn't the "...and then boom!!!" live version?
  1:02pm
Geo:

@mike east: where did they rehearse?
  1:03pm
Sean::

Q+: No it's this private press 7 inch from Jersey. Nice version tho!
  1:04pm
Mike East:

Carroll Music
  1:04pm
Geo:

Ira Kaplan in the ponderosa band too!
  1:07pm
Cecile:

Aw, I missed Junior. Hey, Duane, what did you think of the Sylvers Unsung? I loved it, and thought the subtitle should have been "NOBODY LISTENS TO THE ELDEST." Which is my mantra in my family. LOL!
  1:09pm
Q-:

Wuz for joke, S! Ask D!
  1:09pm
Handsome Harry:

Yeah! Can't get enough Sergio Mendes Brasil 66! Great pick.
  1:18pm
Cecile:

tell me how amazing the soul music stores are over in London. They appreciate it.
  1:19pm
Cecile:

They get it. I hope Unsung unleasheds a whole bunch of reissues.
  1:22pm
Duane::

Cecille: London has amazing stores, a bit pricey tho! It's good for Reggae tho. Amazing 45's for cheap!
  1:24pm
Cecile:

I can imagine. I gotta get there some year.
  1:25pm
Duane::

Cecille: Yeah I get to go every year. My extended family is british> I have a celebrity tv chef cousin who I stay with..HA!
  1:27pm
Cecile:

NICE!
  1:32pm
Bebe:

Who the heck is Junior? That was awesome.
  1:35pm
Cecile:

different Junior, I see. Not the Mama Used To Say Junior.
  1:35pm
Duane::

Bebe: Philipino hearthrob singer from the early 70's who broke big in Spain! Great song!
  1:36pm
Bebe:

Gracias, Bonito.
  1:52pm
Michael A. Gonzales:

I write about soul and funk for Wax Poetics (check out the next cover story on Nina Simone) and must say, your show is amazing. Thank you...
  1:54pm
Duane::

MA.G:Thanx!!! Can't wait to read that issue
  2:03pm
Michael A. Gonzales:

http://blackadelicpop.blogspot.com
  2:07pm
Duane::

M.A.G.: Thanx! I'll definitely check it out
  2:13pm
Cecile:

I love music because there's so much out there to discover. I hate music becasue there's SO MUCH out there to discover.
  2:18pm
Listener Jon:

I love Marcos Valle! If you like this style of Brazilian pop, there used to be an awesome site with our of print records called http://www.sabadabada.com/ it looks like the account has been suspended :-(
  2:20pm
Cecile:

TODD.
  2:20pm
Sean:::

LJ: I used to talk to him on email but haven't heard fromhim for awhile. Good site tho! Hope he's still around
  2:25pm
Cecile:

Nazz? Are you kidding? I mean, I love the Nazz, but the Runt albums?
  2:25pm
Cecile:

spotless...
  2:31pm
Sean:::

Runt is spotless..agreed
  2:31pm
Cecile:

Ballad of Todd Rundgren is up there as well.
  2:36pm
Daniel:

Actually a pseudo Japanese pop song written by a French song writing team and then re appropriated by these Belgian producers for Black Blood, a band from Zaire. Sorry, weirdos!
  2:46pm
Kat:

I was wondering where I had heard "Aie A Mwana" before... a bit of Googling reveals that Bananarama did a version!
  2:48pm
Duane:

Nice one Kat!
  2:50pm
Georgia:

I saw Todd Rundgren (as part of a much larger show) this summer, and the guy behind me had him mixed up with Ted Nugent. He was wondering why a show of mostly folk and gospel singers would have a libertarian gun nut join them.
  3:00pm
jaycjay:

@Georgia, that's hilarious!
