Listener comments!

  12:06pm
J J:

ahhhhhh yeah.
  12:07pm
Nathan:

Only a few weeks in Duane and I'm already looking forward to your set.
  12:07pm
Cecile:

Got some vintage Ohio Players or Junie? That Unsung Monday was slamma-jamma.
  12:09pm
Ken:

Cecile: I did a special Ohip Players edit I might premiere today!
  12:09pm
Cecile:

Nice!
  12:10pm
pierre:

Bonjour Duane !
hello listeners (that i've already salute on Ken's show and others)
  12:13pm
v k:

Duane - really enjoying your being on Summer Schedule - your program is a treat
  12:14pm
Ken:

vk: Thanx so much:) I'm having a blast:)
  12:15pm
Cecile:

Duane, you might want to turn yourself into Duane. Instead of Ken. :D
  12:15pm
duane:

oops sorry Ken..forgot to sign you out!
  12:16pm
Cecile:

And i had no idea that Junie MOrrison had so much to do with my favorite Funkadelic album: One Nation Under a Groove. That's awesome.
  12:16pm
Cecile:

s'ok, Duane. I was wondering what a Ken Ohio Players mix would sound like!
  12:18pm
duane:

Cecille: I might have to challenge Ken to do one..that actually sounds kinda hysterical. Yeah, Junie was pretty much responsible for the P-Funk hits in the late 70's. JUnie's solo records are pretty ill!
  12:19pm
Cecile:

I saw him doing Pain on Soul Train with the Players on the Unsung, and was hooked.
  12:19pm
Cecile:

Duane, I can see him putting in "Baby Animal" or "Hello Sweden!"
  12:25pm
jill:

this music makes me happy
  12:33pm
Eric:

I don't like cotton, it's the high fructose corn syrup of fabrics
  12:37pm
v k:

coolest shirt in summer r 70-80's super thin polyester short sleeve button-ups, with minimal buttoning - i love peeling off my suit each evening and popping into one of those bad boys - p i m p
  12:39pm
duane:

vk: They look and feel great when you're not sweatin
  12:39pm
Cecile:

I must disagree - cotton, and then linen make the summer tolerable.
  12:40pm
Cecile:

I'm not opposed to said cotton and linen being mixed with some synthetics for shape however.
  12:42pm
Cecile:

tencel is also nice - that's made from bamboo. Doesn't hold up real great unless it's mixed with some other fibers, though.
  12:44pm
chris:

Smokin' show, Duane.
  12:44pm
Eric:

merino is great for sweating, but it's not too cheap these days
  12:45pm
dc pat:

cotton rules, what are you gonna do?
  12:47pm
Cecile:

but the lighter and the looser the weave, the better!
  12:51pm
Eric:

hemp might be good for shirts, I've never tried it
  12:52pm
still b/p:

You Can Do It was sounding a bit like Stayin' Alive, then it hit its moment that goes wayyy Stayin' Alive. Pretty, umm, derivative, in the day before remix riffs.
  12:55pm
duane:

still b/p: That's an interesting track. Evie Sands actually wrote and recorded in '76 first, then Dobie Gray did a cover 2 years later and the arrangement's completely different from the OG. The "Stayin ALive" riff I hear it now, but I think it was purely all arrangement. Wierd!
  1:12pm
Cecile:

Duane, you have a knack for coming up with great psychelic failures from pop artists. Really listenable stuff.
  1:13pm
slugluv1313:

BONEY M!!!! YAY!!!!!!! (and yes, i kinda heard "Stayin' Alive" in that Dobie Gray track too!)
  1:16pm
Handsome Harry:

Really enjoying the show today. (Along with air conditioning.)
  1:24pm
Cecile:

WOW. I just looked up Jackie Shane. What a brave and talented cat.
  1:24pm
Pete:

I'm with Jackie - I need the $$!
  1:27pm
dc pat:

cool didn't know anything about Jackie Shane.
  1:29pm
jill:

Thanks for the Jackie Shane heads up, here's a youtube clip-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUYW2iwimBw&feature=player_embedded
  1:31pm
dc pat:

CHARLIE!! I actually thought "is this Charlie Feathers or Bloodshot Bill?"
  1:32pm
Cecile:

Duane, if you offer a burn of that Jackie Shane live album, as a fundraiser premium I tell you now I will pledge for it.
  1:34pm
duane:

Cecile: That's not a bad idea..hmmmm!!
  1:34pm
slugluv1313:

more about Jackie -- WOW!!!!!! a total trailblazer -- and *hopefully* still alive and well :) http://www.queermusicheritage.us/drag-shane.html
  1:36pm
Cecile:

You know, queermusicheritage has a lot of gems on there, and i have to sit down and walk through their teaching module - it looks pretty cool.
  1:45pm
kurt v:

woh, this groove is amazing
  1:46pm
Cecile:

YAY! Afro Sheen commercial!
  1:48pm
Soul Glo:

Let your SOUL GLO!
  1:52pm

  1:54pm
dc pat:

omigawd, how geeky!
  1:59pm
J J:

Underrated 90's band! So gooood.
  2:02pm
dc pat:

amazing tune (SFS)
  2:08pm
dale:

been listening, had to log on. 'nothing really matters' just kinda says it all.
  2:08pm
Tamara Z:

Hi Duane! So happy to be listening to you in real time. Great show!
  2:11pm
duane:

Tamara: Great to hear from ya..thanx for listening!
Dale: Come back from the ledge bro:) Think of the children!
  2:14pm
Parq:

I'ma a big fan of the song "Sonw Queen". Carole King song, isn't it? I first heard it in the 70s, a blasting live version by the latter-day Blood Sweat and Tears.
  2:14pm
Cecile:

who produced that Roger Nichols? Richard Carpenter?
  2:16pm
duane:

Cecile: Tommy Lipuma and Nick Decaro arranged
  2:16pm
duane:

Carole King Did "Snow Queen" First..YuP!
  2:18pm
Carmichael:

Yep, she wrote it in 1969. Timeless ...
  2:23pm
Cecile:

Roger Nichols came out pre-Carpenters...wonder if they were influenced.
  2:23pm
northguineahills:

This is a nice Solvent track.
  2:24pm
Parq:

Kind of a shame Carole K is known chiefly for the ultimate Album You Have To Listen To When At Your Girlfriend's House, coz she's so much more than that.
  2:29pm
Carmichael:

I was gifted a Songs of Carole King collection (can't remember the exact title), and it is full of fairly obscure songs that other artists sang at the time. Great collection. I'll have to get the exact name.
  2:31pm
duane:

Apparently Carole Kings demo tapes were prized commodities amongst record execs in the 60's. Everyone wanted to sign her but she was so hesitant to go solo because of her stage fright.
  2:38pm
Cecile:

Great groove. They must have spent eleven seconds writing the lyrics.
  2:40pm
still b/p:

Looking up Tapestry info to refresh the concrete confirmations of its ranking and endurance, and found this line in artistwiki --

"..King was appointed the wimpt framgångsrikaful female songwriters of the pop era 1955-1999..."
  2:44pm
Carmichael:

That's quite a mouthful, b/p. Wonder if any Klingon board commenters can translate.
  2:45pm
Cecile:

Golf Channel records?
  2:47pm
duane:

Ceclie: Yeah..there based outta Brooklyn..great label
  2:47pm
Cecile:

Wow. this sounds really retro, is there an older gentleman singing in this group?
  2:48pm
still b/p:

Klingons or Swedes -- "framgångsrika ful" is "successful ugly." There are a few other irrelevant and nonsense terms and references in the paragraph. Ohh, those young edit-monkeys making wikimischief.
  2:48pm
duane:

Cecile: It's a sample
  2:48pm
Cecile:

Ah! I'm a little slow.
  2:50pm
Cecile:

wish it had been an undiscovered soul-Blondie cross.
  2:50pm
jaycjay:

It's pretty great. Gotta look into this Golf Channel label.
  2:50pm
glenn:

age does that to all of us. just wait til you're as old as me.
  2:51pm
Cecile:

I'm probably older.
  2:52pm
glenn:

by the way, did you see there's going to be an angry birds movie?
  2:53pm
Cecile:

yes!
  2:53pm
Cecile:

if Rio didn't count already...
  2:58pm
glenn:

is dennis coffey on this frida payne track? he's playing in toronto friday night.
  2:59pm
duane:

Coffey is on that track! If you're in Toronto, go! He's still an excellent live performer
