  12:04pm

  12:06pm
Cecile:

Duane!

I just realized that you and Diane only have one different letter in your names.
  12:06pm
vanessa:

  12:07pm
john:

this song sure is a lot like that jeremy jay "airwalker" song huh?
  12:08pm
Lawrence Kan:

I guess this means 5,000 factory farmers can all be wrong.
  12:08pm
duane:

You guys are awesome!
  12:12pm
powiva:

give it to me!
  12:12pm
Brian in UK:

Singles only today. Yipee.

Cecile, did I tell you that Andrea Arnold is remaking Wuthering Heights. Seems a strange choice after gritty realism.
  12:13pm
Cecile:

Yeah, you did. that's such a psycho book. Never one of my faves. But there's a lot of raw emotion in it. Could get some grit in there.
  12:15pm
Brian in UK:

Short term memory shot.! Get down with the kids on't moors. Eee by gum.
  12:15pm
Cecile:

Hey, Duane, got any Gibson Brothers? I knew not a thing about them until last week and now I can't get enought.
  12:17pm
duane:

Gibson Brothers.."CUba" They are great..don' think i broght them this week. Awesome use of that song in "The Bitch"..the 70's disco sex movie with Joan Collins
  12:18pm
Cecile:

I love the global flavor. Martinique by way of France and huge in Germany
  12:19pm
Cecile:

I have to see that, Duane. I heard it was camptastic.
  12:20pm
Ike:

Great sounds! And you don't have competition from Tony Coulter on the alternate stream today, as happens every other week or so in this slot.
  12:21pm
duane:

Cecile: The Stud & The Bitch are two of my biggest life influnces and their respective soundtracks. *distant far away look*
  12:24pm
Cecile:

LOLOLOLOLOLOL!

For me it was "Sounder" and "Star Wars."
  12:26pm
Cecile:

Your influences are much racier and more exotic!
  12:27pm
Cecile:

OH. And the Shaft soundtrack. That was major.
  12:29pm
Adrian in London:

Loving this set, Duane. Keeping me vaguely sane until I can leave office hell in half an hour.
  12:30pm
duane:

Cecile: I might've been the only 12 year old in the mid-eighties staying up to watch the Italian soft-porn on skinemax for the soundtracks, and set design..LOL
  12:32pm
Brian in UK:

Did Taj Mahal do the Sounder S/T?
  12:34pm
Lacy:

Duane - I'm going to assume that was pre-Lincoln.
  12:34pm
listener mark:

found my glow sticks ! let us dance !
  12:35pm
Cecile:

He did, Brian! I have it saved on my DVR forever because the movie isn't on DVD or VHS as far as I know, and the sdtk is way out of print. A crime! It was a multi-Oscar nominee. And it was the first movie in a theatre I ever paid to see twice. I was a big 10 years old at the time.

Prolly. LOLOLOLOLOLOL! that's awesome, Duane.
  12:35pm
duane:

Lacy: LOL..oh know that was straight up Lincoln!!
  12:36pm
lowdirt:

great mix Duane!
  12:39pm
Lacy:

Well, what else were you going to do, I guess.
  12:42pm
Brian in UK:

I remember the book coming out over here as a Puffin, the childrens imprint of Penguin, when I worked in a childrens bookshop. It had the film cover.
  12:46pm
Cecile:

I used to have the Scholastic book of it. Wish I still had it.

The book is different, a little sadder but still uplifting at the end.
  12:47pm
Cecile:

WOW. Deep cuts from the dude who wrote the theme to the Young and the Restless!
  12:48pm
Cecile:

Ok, Duane. You have any Loleatta Holloway? She passed recently. *pours white wine spritzer in the gutter*
  12:50pm
duane:

Cecile: hmmm..let me check
  12:54pm
Cecile:

found a pre-movie copy of the book for under $4 . Nice.
  12:57pm
ralphsanders6:

Asha Was that who was singing like Dona Summer,s Balllywood style love me baby. I think I use to date her in the 1970,s
  12:58pm
Cecile:

YES. Sr. Rosetta.
  1:16pm
Cecile:

Fotomaker! I remember Stereo Review just ripping them a whole new one back in the 70s. they are quite pleasant. But then when you had Stevie and EWF and any number of people at full power, I guess pleasant was a rip.
  1:16pm
Cecile:

there was one guy from the Raspberries and one guy from the Rascals in that, right?
  1:17pm
duane:

Yup! Raspberries/Rascals combo!
  1:19pm
Cecile:

LOL!
Man, if knowing Stereo Review by heart from 1971-1980 was a career booster, I'd be posting this on my private jet.
  1:24pm
glenn:

isn't stereo review kinda guy geeky?
  1:26pm
glenn:

on the other hand, i have every issue of fine homebuilding, f. woodworking, f. cooking and f. gardening. and lots of doubles to boot.
  1:27pm
Cecile:

And your point?
  1:27pm
Cecile:

I didn't read much of the stereo stuff, mostly reviews.
  1:27pm
G:

check on top of his head, cecile :-P
  1:28pm
Ike:

I guess Stereo Review was before my time? I always liked Option. And wasn't there one called B-Side?
  1:29pm
Cecile:

I remember when Option was O-P. And SR had morphed into Home Audio or something like that. It was popular because it was the only music magazine lots of parents and school libraries would allow in the 70s.
  1:32pm
glenn:

i have a friend named majero, pronounced my arrow. so named because her parents were watching the point on t.v. when she was conceived.
  1:32pm
Ike:

There WAS an audiophile magazine in my local library with record reviews. Hmm. Maybe that WAS Stereo Review. I can't remember. Whatever it was, they bashed My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless," calling it "nasty canned music" or some such! Har har!
  1:34pm
glenn:

home audio. i think that's right. i find it very ironic that when most people can finally afford a truly great stereo system, they no longer have the hearing to enjoy it.
  1:35pm
Cecile:

They were pretty conservative, even when they were out there. Still Lester Bangs wrote for em in the 70s, occasionally Steve Simels was aight, and their jazz critic was great - he was championing Sam Rivers and Steve Lacy. They really covered folk and musicals well. I went and bought a Ben Bagley Painted Smiles Revue record for a quarter for sentimental reasons last year because of them.
  1:36pm
Cecile:

The great Phyl Garland and Vince Aletti wrote for them from time to time.
  1:37pm
Lacy:

Schools are on break this week!
  1:37pm
Cecile:

it's Easter Week. But still...
  1:42pm
Brian in UK:

Why does anyone need a truly great stereo system when most of the good stuff was recorded on 2/4 track. Unless you want to listen to dead peoples music like Pink Floyd.
  1:42pm
glenn:

oh dear.
  1:43pm
dc pat fc:

I swear I just heard "She's got baby Jesus eyes"!!!
  1:43pm
jaycjay:

Heh. I have that Fotomaker LP. Two members of the group are in the rock hall of fame, after all!
  1:43pm
Ike:

Are there still Shell stations? As a kid, I liked the old chestnut, "Why did the turtle cross the road? To get to the Shell station!" but that may not make sense now.
  1:44pm
dale:

i knew a girl with betty rubble eyes.
  1:44pm
glenn:

well, especially in these days of ipods and mp3s. but a pristine vinyl album played on a great stereo is a thing of beauty. and a thing of beauty is a joy forever.
  1:44pm
Cecile:

PILOT!
  1:45pm
Cecile:

glenn, even on a crappy stereo....
  1:45pm
Cecile:

where's Carm?
  1:46pm
dc pat fc:

standard joke for kids and adults alike: "Termite walks into a bar and says, 'Where's the bartender?'"
  1:46pm
Carmichael:

Boy, did I show up at the right song!
  1:46pm
efd:

Sorry to be That Guy -- and I LOVE hearing this song! -- but this is Piper, not Pilot. Featuring a pre-solo Billy Squier.

Great show Duane, really enjoying it!
  1:47pm
dc pat fc:

shit, forgot "Termite walks into a bar, slams his fist down on the bar, and says, 'Where's the bartender?'" I think you need the visual..
  1:47pm
Brian in UK:

efd Ho ho ho it's magic!!
  1:47pm
duane:

efd; I just noticed that right now..thanx!
  1:47pm
Carmichael:

Yes, this isn't Pilot. The guitar style gave it away.
  1:48pm
glenn:

besides, i like pink floyd. up until the wall anyway. and don't get me started on the awesomeness that is the kinks. or moby grape.
  1:48pm
dale:

listen to you audiophiles. all i had access to when i was a kid was the console the folks got at the western auto. high end was maybe fisher stuff but it was nowhere around where i lived
  1:48pm
duane:

The damn Wfmu edit monster got me:)
  1:49pm
efd:

Not that I would have been upset to hear Pilot, of course.
  1:49pm
Cecile:

Oh, PIper. Oh, well. That's Billy Squier, kind of almost as good.
  1:49pm
dale:

where's the bar TENDER! HA!!
  1:49pm
glenn:

and here we are (most of us) listening to a radio station through crappy computer speakers.
  1:50pm
dc pat fc:

dale got it.
  1:50pm
efd:

That auto-fill on the artist field can definitely trip one up when entering songs into the playlist system!
  1:50pm
Cecile:

har.

dale, the only thing I demanded when I was a teen was a player without a changer. When I didn't get that, I put the fear of God in to my sibs. My one concession to audiophilia. I think I've inherited 90% of my stereo equipemnt from my techie friends.
  1:51pm
Brian in UK:

glenn competition got to up your game brother.
  1:51pm
Carmichael:

I started with a Kenner Close'N'Play, and went up from there.
  1:52pm
glenn:

Sports News Headlines
World Series hero Lenny Dykstra arrested for fraud
  1:52pm
dc pat fc:

I still like the sound of am radio which is why I LOVE fmu app on an iPhone w/o earphones..
  1:53pm
Ike:

@Glenn@1:49, yeah sadly true right now, though late last night I was listening to Airborne Event and Woody's show via 91.1 on my stereo system at home. BTW those are excellent shows to hit on the archives for anybody who only listens during the day.
  1:53pm
Brian in UK:

Was he caught last evening. Headline: Dykestra Manoeuvres in the Dark
  1:55pm
dale:

i still have my first receiver i ever bought, a 1977 kenwood 40 kr 4070. i pulled it out recently and plugged er in for 5 minutes of warmth and then a loud hum. old caps dried out. anyone know how hard they are to change out?

i have a 40 watt marantz from that period too. then when i made money i bought NAD stuff. still prefer the big glow-y dial.
  1:55pm
Nails:

Actually, he was arrested last week. Wednesday, I think.
  1:56pm
chris:

Schoolhouse Rock for the dating crowd!
  1:57pm
Nails:

OK, wiki says "Thursday night" so your "Manoeuvers" joke works.
  1:58pm
glenn:

i don't know. he was selling stuff that was enjoined by his bankruptcy trustee. but why couldn't he have sold one of the two multi million dollar homes he owned before declaring bankruotcy? rich people confuse me sometimes. actually most of the time.
  1:59pm
glenn:

i have NAD stuff. i quite like it. changing the capacitors is probably easier than finding them.
  1:59pm
Carmichael:

I bought Pioneer SX-1080 receiver in 1979, and it still runs like a champ (in my garage). I still use my quartz-lock turntable to this day.
  2:00pm
Nails:

Two separate arrests, apparently. Wednesday was for fraud, Thursday unrelated arrest for an attempt to buy a stolen car.
  2:00pm
Cecile:

glenn, if he had any sense with money or knew anyone who had sense with money, he wouldn't be in that pickle. Simple as that. that doesn't mean I don't feel for him . That sucks.
  2:01pm
Cecile:

I have a nice A/R belt drive turntable that just needs a new belt...
  2:02pm
Brian in UK:

If he is an thick as our footballers (soccer) and has too much money too young what is a guy to do?
  2:02pm
Nails:

He was promoting himself as a financial advisor, so I suppose owning two homes is better PR than owning just one.
  2:03pm
Brian in UK:

Cecile with proper play & reward a hamster could do a good job on that turntable.
  2:04pm
Cecile:

I know! Love it.
  2:04pm
randy in NC:

@Dale NAD is good stuff. I still have mine. There's a thrift shop here that I volunteer at. We get lots of good discarded audiophile-like stuff. We had some huge Fisher speakers from the 60's that still sounded good come in a while back. The things that go on all these are the big caps (as you found out), and the rubber belts in the turntables and cassette recorders. Replacing the power supply caps is not too critical as long as the voltages and values are at least as large as what was there.
  2:05pm
Cecile:

Really, nails?

Being a financial advisor is like being a nutritionist - you can just say you are one. Not like being a dietitian or a certifified financial planner.
  2:06pm
Cecile:

and I've had two sets of family members get burned big time by real estate. I don't have the stomach for that. one house is plenty.
  2:09pm
dale:

i thought i'd look at mousers for caps. have to open the unit up first to see the values. how do you discharge any juice still hanging out in there? a couple of years ago i got an early 60s telefunkun bajazzo am/fm/shortwave for $5 at the salvay. i love days like that.
  2:11pm
dc pat fc:

hey, wild version of I guess I just....
  2:13pm
Nails:

Apparently Dykstra got burned in real estate too. Bought the Gretzky mansion for $17.5 million, and did put it on the market before filing for bankruptcy, asking $24.5 originally. Nobody bit. As of last year, it's valued at about $11 million.
  2:14pm
duane:

dc pat: Yeah this Masekela album is great..and cheap when you find it
  2:15pm
randy in NC:

If the unit is humming, the cap is likely dead anyway so no worry about charge storage. Or just wait a few minutes after powering it down. Look for the cap to be puffed up or distorted. Besides Mouser, you might just check your local Radio Shack too. I think I priced those Fisher speakers at $7. Nice walnut veneer, back in the day when speakers were furniture.
  2:15pm
Dominick:

The capacitors should be discharged a few minutes after the unit is turned off and unplugged.
  2:17pm
Wendy:

Hey Duane...just thought I'd let you know you have two listeners sitting here on a living room floor in Nebraska. MISS YOU!!!
  2:18pm
duane:

Wendy: *Mwaaah*
  2:19pm
glenn:

my girlfriend's been in italy for two weeks, i get about ten emails a day from her telling me what she's eating. it's very distracting.
  2:20pm
Wendy:

Indeed dear...you have us floor dancing in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday. :)
*mwaaah* right back you ya.
  2:24pm
Paul:

Where do you do trivia? The Gutter?
  2:27pm
duane:

Paul:The Emerson on Myrtle Ave
  2:30pm
dc pat fc:

Sooooooo good. Studio One is my best friend...
  2:32pm
Paul:

  2:33pm
duane:

Paul: $40 Drink Tab..not bad!
  2:38pm
Paul:

I go to Pete's in Greenpoint. It's only a 25$ tab but the competition is good.
  2:39pm
glenn:

i hate to be THAT guy too, but it's sister rosetta thArpe.
  2:44pm
duane:

glenn: damn typo..thanx!
  2:47pm

  2:48pm
