Mon. 3/21/11 10:16pm
Dan B:
Oops, that *was* Brenda Lee, not Peggy Lee, at the beginning. Damn LP was covered with a 7" to make it loop and I couldn't see what was on the label.

You could have a show dedicated to nothing but Circle and they're so all over the place unsuspecting listeners might not know it's all the same band.

When I went home today And no one was there to play Then I felt like listening to you When I played the archive Whispered love at the skies And I just hanged around with you Inside me I feel airborne and unreal And the way you mix will always be A very special thing to me. (R.I.P. Syd B) Great job, Mr. Bodah!

Dan B:
@Looms, you are too kind, sir! Thanks! @Christine, I think it's just my own backwoods homegrown thing...never knew anyone else who did it that way -- I think the pros all have some other methodology, but I like the rawness and off-kilter rhythms that the 7" on 12" makes. Also, you can balance the 7" on the turntable spindle (or use one with a big hole) to move the 7" so it taps the needle back at just the point you want. Another thing is that the thickness or thinness of the 7" will affect how it hits the needle or the stylus and give a more or less consistent loop...sometimes the 7" will also shift a little over time and the loop will drift around a bit, which is nice. Now does anyone have an idea of how to apply this technique to make a loop on a record player spinning *backwards?* Maybe I just need to carve out the inside of a 12", or use one of those frisbees shaped like a hollow circle...open to suggestions...
