annie:

it's snowing here, btw..
  12:06pm
Carmichael:

Tough act to follow, Kurt. But you're off to a fine start.
  12:06pm
Cecile:

Wow! A War deep cut I forgot about (they're probably my favorite band ever) and a Don Cherry Black Orpheus cover. Nice
  12:07pm
Carmichael:

I still remember every single sound on World is a Ghetto album. Incredible music.
  12:09pm
Cecile:

Carm, they are so bloody underrated. Nobody has ever sounded like them and never will.
  12:10pm
Cecile:

I mean, Low Rider was a top 10 single, and it was one of the most dissonant things to hit the pop airwaves ever!
  12:16pm
Carmichael:

Lee Oskar: a funk harmonica player?!? His poster was on my wall for years. Cooler than cool.
  12:18pm
Cecile:

I know! Denmark's finest!
  12:23pm
Cecile:

I had to go revisit his BLT on Grooveshark for a moment.
  12:43pm
Richard from Venezuela:

The lady on the front page of wfmu is similar to the girl singer of Blood Red Shoes. She is bloody hot.
  12:45pm
schizflow:

i think it might be a still from a godard movie
  12:45pm
schizflow:

maybe contempt
  12:52pm
Cecile:

This is best interview ever.
  1:02pm
Cecile:

I didn't get them before, but in the last couple of years they finally clicked.
  1:05pm
Tom:

Image = Anna Karina, Une Femme est Une Femme.

Man next door - best tune ever
  1:47pm
frenchee:

  2:06pm
slugluv1313:

ditto, frenchee -- ARI UP was like no other; i still cannot believe she is gone -- but her MUSIC and ENRGY live on FOREVER!!!
  2:12pm
CheriPi:

If I weren't working my fingers to the bone I'd be on the comment board hyperbolizing about how much I love this show.
  2:21pm
emmagineering:

Interesting, the now-sadly defunct japanese group afrirampo must have drawn a lot from their sound. Thanks djkg! And KG don't stand for KiloGram.
  2:22pm
Looms:

Many thanks for the live recording! I'll miss Ari.
  2:23pm
DJ KG:

good point, emmagineer. afrirampo ruled.
  2:29pm
Cecile:

I think most all-women alt-punk-etc bands are either reacting to the Slits or rejecting them. But they are monolithic. And I'm sure a huge influence on Melt-Banana as well...
  2:31pm
Cecile:

I meant to say revering the Slits instead of reacting.
  2:33pm
Cecile:

And this current song is amazing.
  2:48pm
Ike:

Just tuned back in during the fantastic Alemayehu Eshete. Love this set so far, too.
