One band clue...:
Peripherique Est is the name of the eastern part of the ring road around the city of Paris...

Mark from pompton Plains:
Isn't this used in the film "Andrei Rublev"?

Martha:
Thanks for the info - so they are likely French (was too clueless to search on line before) - and that section may well have been used in the film - was wondering where it came from- thanks to all the informed 'FMU listeners as always -

Ye Olde Interwebs:
Som websites say Peripherique Est are French, some say Belgian. The Paris ring road is scary and dumpy and intimidating -- hence the band name.

Ha ha cheers, I actually left this work to the last minute so I could focus on all the gigs I've got over the holidays. Hopefully I'll be another DJ with a computer science degree some day :)

Therese, this is uncanny - I have played half of the songs from your playlist today - must be a class consciousness (and grim) zeitgeist in the air.

Ye Olde:
@heath -- I was trying to be concise, but since you're challenging me, here goes the detail. I've driven it. Think BQE or FDR drive -- lots of chipped and pitted concrete, rusty steel, brown stalactites dripping overhead, ubiquitous and impressive potholes, really complicated in its lane usage and entrances and exits, locals who drive the road every day constantly swooping from lane to lane at way above the speed limit, etc. Sorry to disappoint your canned past-its-sellby-date social criticism, which was already a cheesy cliche when I was in grade school 40 years ago..
