Hi Tom & Looms. I'm trying to replicate Old Faithful and be a reliable weekly purveyor of songs from Monoliths & Dimensions...

Tom L:
Is it a new premium, or the one that went out with the last pledge drive? The condensation of all of last years shows.

Looms:
@Tom: I'm talking about Buried Under Air, the last regular marathon prenium. My swag was posted mid-june and arrived at the end of july!!! But i'm pretty sure he decided to go to South Africa and attend a few socker games...
|
Sun. 8/8/10 6:48am
Dan B:
@Looms, thanks, glad you like it. That premium was a pain in the ass to make.

That's the one, and it is great. I imagine editing that was brutal. @Dan did you see Noveller at Cinders Gallery on Friday? I wanted to go but couldn't make it.
|

Looms:
@Dan: I believe it was some hard work to do, indeed. Anyway, it's nice to have new tracks from you as a producer.
|

Dan B:
@Tom, thanks. Did not see Noveller, I've been hanging out in the woods this week. Would love to see Sarah play live some time though, her music is great. @Looms, aw shucks!

Oh, the old man Chris Cutler! Saw a solo performance a few years ago, it was killer! His work has always been interesting.

The Evan Parker was one of the most astonishing things I've heard in a long, long time.

@Tom L: I hear you. I just wish I could hear something that brilliant from him live, what I heard so far was very far from those heights. Maybe someone should pair him with Joe McPhee. McPhee is great but what I like best about him is his ability to bring out the best in those he plays with. I saw him play with Peter Brotzmann and that was the one time I heard Brotzmann live up to what he was doing decades ago.
|
Sun. 8/8/10 7:50am
Tom L:
@fred I don't need to see him live. That recording was enough for me! That is a very introspective style -- I don't see how he could get into that head-space with a bunch of people sitting in front of him, clinking glasses and dropping their iPhones on the floor.
|
Sun. 8/8/10 7:53am
Dan B:
@Looms, thanks for the info on that one. @Tom L & fred, I've seen Evan play at least once in a small space, and it was pretty incredible. A lot of his incredible recordings are made live. Then again, when you improvise live without a net, you always risk flopping on the floor. Fred, you're right about McPhee, though he's also pretty incredible on his own and in duos I've seen. Truly a great musician. @Rick, yay 90.1! And @Rachel, good morning!

Joe McPhee is one of my fave musicians. He has a lot to say, but he leaves room for others while challenging them to give their best just by putting the bar exactly high enough. Hearing him play is a treat on so many levels.
