graham:

christ, iv been looking for a good station in NJ for the past 2 years and ended up finding WFMU by googling "kexp new jersey". good stuff guys, and thanks for playing music that doesn't suck.
  9:36am
graham:

sorry to double post, but can i make a cymbals eat guitars request? i'm at work right now and every other source of music is blocked.
  9:43am
bobw:

yo graham. in 3 hours i never get enough time to play the stuff that i've previewed for the program, so requests are pretty rare. for more good sounds check out the FREE MUSIC ARCHIVE, linked under "diversions" on the wfmu.org homepage.
  9:46am
fishmonkeystew:

Good morning, WFMU world!
  9:46am
Ne-guh-tor:

Bob-Thanks for playing this Talk Talk. Glad to hear Tim F. Greene not forgotten!
  9:47am
Cecile:

The Animal Sounds LP is from either 1980 or 81, bobw.

Bob Phipps is "Sluggo" from Oingo Boingo. A band whose work were much less than the sum of their parts.
  9:47am
El Pulpo Paul:

Hey, am I the man or not? Well, no. More like the male. But I RULE.

annie:

  9:53am
Cecile:

morning, annie!

WIll konono be able to play LOUD? Because we saw them at a folk club in Mpls that would not let them play loud. They were troupers, but you could tell they were not happy.
  9:54am
Cecile:

Yeah, that BT show looks great. Kudos to Jack for keeping it up that long.

WOW. I wish I could win the comedy one, too.

How's it hanging miss annie?

OH COME ON BOBW.
  9:59am
SiHV:

Listening from the snake pit. Thanks for the tunes.
  10:08am
dc pat:

  10:11am
bobw:

  10:14am
north guinea hills:

I wish I still drank coffee..... can't form any other sentences.....
  10:15am
annie:

not bad cecile.... had a lovely experience yesterday; went to day two of an art/food exhibit at the tail end, close to five. usually i attend the big bash my pal joe has saturday night, but i declined. got a message from a pal near here, she saw a photo of me there and wanted me to see it. glad i went, sooo glad i went..although there were a handful of people at joe's house, that handful happened to be the very people i would have wanted to see had i gone saturday night! .. wonders never cease!
  10:18am
Pierre:

Bonjour from Paris !
  10:21am
annie:

hi pierre!!
  10:22am
Pierre:

  10:23am
Cecile:

No, the "what continent are they from?" question...:)
  10:23am
Cecile:

that sounds like a great day, annie!
  10:26am
paul:

wish i knew about that before i moved, i literally threw my old computer out in the trash.....
  10:36am
annie:

serendipitous, to be sure!!
  10:41am
bobw:

yeah, "what continent" is pretty lame. like i said, pretty much any question is pointless, with the ol' google and wikipedia at the fingertips. sorry about the dead air between for against and orange oven - it was a c.d. glitch. though, it might as well have been d.j. error!
  10:44am
Cecile:

You could ask a question that regular listeners could get. Like, what's BobW's favorite sport? Or city...
  10:45am
Carmichael:

Or color. Good morning all.
  10:46am
north guinea hills:

I really like this Mgzaruli vocal musics....., yum!
  10:48am
borxes:

Nice to see traditional bulgarian music splited on that Mgzaruli music:)
  10:49am
annie:

dead air? i always assume it's just part and parcel of the fmu line-up!
  10:50am
Carmichael:

I believe you're required to have dead air on FM. A minimum of 1 minute per hour.
  10:54am
efd:

If the Big Takeover tickets are still on the clipboard on Wednesday I'll definitely offer them up!
  10:59am
Carmichael:

Did anyone else just experience a WFMU system failure?
  11:00am
bobw:

yeah, EFD!!! there are 3 more pairs of passes to the anniversary weekend! listen to evan's show if you want a pair of free passes!
  11:01am
Cecile:

I have played that 2 Many DJs disc so many times. It's quite brilliant.
  11:04am
annie:

yes carm, i did my winamp crashed
  11:05am
Carmichael:

Good, that means I'm not computer illiterate ...
  11:05am
bobw:

"what's bob w's favorite sport?" you better not be thinking hockey - hockey is a lifestyle! ;) i walked into a bar on sunday JUST as spain scored! man, talk about avoiding all the work of watching 100+ minutes of guys kicking a ball around and landing the payoff!
  11:08am
Cecile:

Grey Goods really like the Urinals.
  11:13am
annie:

you're good carm..
  11:14am
Thierry:

Best song of the previous century?
  11:17am
dc pat:

actually I'm kind of glad World Cup is over. Now I can get back to my normal life... Oh, crap, Tour de France...well today's a rest day.
  11:18am
north guinea hills:

I'm a soccer fanatic, but that was one awful game. every two minutes there was a real foul or an imagined one. both teams were so tepid, too afraid to make any mistakes.

The 3rd place game, germany-uruguay, was awesome, 3-2 w/ both team make one running play after another.
  11:20am
Carmichael:

When they weren't flopping, they were whining. Whatever happened to a good game of soccer?
  11:21am
dc pat:

I thought the final match was alright. I knew the Dutch were going to be rough, so that's about what I expected. It was a fine World Cup...except Germany didn't win the whole thing....
  11:24am
BSI:

bah, it was a wretched match on both sides. Ugly as hell. Can't wait for the real thing now (EPL)
  11:27am
annie:

bobw- you said "august water" this whole season has been accelerated by a month at least and i have a hard time convincing people. i feel vindicated :)
  11:27am
dc pat:

I will say that as soon as the cards come out the acting increases 10-fold. That Dutch karate guy should have been ejected early on and then no more cards for the rest of the match to stop all the whining.
  11:28am
fishmonkeystew:

Aw man, I haven't heard any Afghan Whigs since about 1995. Very cool. Thanks, Bob!
  11:29am
Cecile:

It's warm enough to not have a heart attack jumping into Lake Superior. Still isn't warm, but it isnt' as cold as usual. Usually it gets warm enough to swim in October.
  11:29am
BSI:

Heh...... a boot of cleats to the chest. Now that's just plain RUDE, wot?
  11:30am
Cecile:

It's weird how all of a sudden I'm starting to hear threads of the Meat Puppets and non-sucky Soul Asylum in the Afghan Whigs. It didn't register until just now...
  11:30am
dc pat:

the officiating blew in general.
  11:32am
bobw:

the whigs! yeah! ok - no more world cup talk! hockey season starts in 3 months! heh heh!
  11:32am
BSI:

I figure FIFA owes me compensation for the ales I consumed whilst waiting for the game to turn watchable. Alright, I'm done bitchin'.
  11:33am
dc pat:

hockey schmockey, what's next for soccer? Premier League? Bundesliga?
  11:37am
north guinea hills:

European leagues start in August. Western Hemisphere leagues are ongoing.
  11:37am
Mike East:

Cecile - I wasn't looking at the playlist and thought it WAS the Meatpuppets. I'm gonna have to check out more Afghan Whigs. Rock!
  11:38am
dc pat:

I gotta get to a DC United match.
  11:38am
Cecile:

Gentlemen is a fantastic album. I can't listen to it all the time, but it's pretty great. Very intense.
  11:38am
Reggie Dunlop:

I am personally placing a hundred-dollar bounty on the head of Tim McCracken. He's the head coach and chief punk on that Syracuse team.
  11:40am
Mike East:

It is now on my list. Thanks!
  11:44am
annie:

thanks for the great music today bob!!
  11:45am
hana:

i'm loving it, man.
  2:51pm
Jordan:
