|
Sun. 6/13/10 6:26am

|
Sun. 6/13/10 6:35am
Dan B:
Morning Bas! So do you think the English goalie was humiliated yesterday or what?
|
Sun. 6/13/10 6:36am
andy/s:
Morning! Let's not talk about the English goalie!! Honestly though he is the worst goalkeeper in the squad so I have no idea why he was in the team.

Melvins are in my top five, never mind top 200! And Honky is a bit of an underrated album.
|
Sun. 6/13/10 7:53am
Dan B:
@Andy, Honky's a weird one, too. I like the weird ones...though that might include 97% of Melvins records. I just love how they take all the standard moves and mess around with them.
|
Sun. 6/13/10 7:58am
andy/s:
yeah! And write amazing songs while they're at it. The new album is great. Check out the first track from it if you haven't yet. There's some great 'why are they doing this?!' style messing around in that one!
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:03am
Looms (back):
I agree the tracks by Melvins sounded really good. Maybe i should check this band out. Any advice about what records to begin with?

Dan B:
@Siluranus - it does sound like waves -- good morning to you!
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:23am
dan's kid:
is this a violin?!! | |
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:25am
Dan B:
@Dan's Kid - It's an accordion and a voice playing together
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:25am
Dan B:
@Dan's Kid - but there is some music like this that's made on the violin, which I will play next
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:27am
zirk(c)onium:

I love me an icthyosaurus too!
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:42am
Rob W:
I'm with you on Pauline Oliveros Dan... I was originally turned on to her back in my college days in the 1980s at University of Michigan radio station WCBN, thanks to the Lovely Music releases that came into the station... the label that taught me that avant garde music (pardon the term but you know what I mean) could be beautiful!
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:43am
xenonisaurus xxuq:
dan,duh! | |
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:44am
Ignatsisaurus:
Roar! | |
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:44am
Dan B:
Yeah, Pauline is a completely unique person in music. She's done so many things, but she has always had this joy underlying all her avant garde moves that hardly anyone else ever brings to this kind of music
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:45am
Dave E:
Dan - I have the Deep Listenings recording - what others would you recommend?
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:47am
Looms:
Dig Pauline Oliveros too. The record that made me dive into her work and start to love it was Crone Music (on Lovely Music)
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:47am
silas xxuqt:
ignatsisaurus?! | |
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:48am
Rob W:
Absolutely Dan. Of course I don't know if he's as joyful but this Tony Conrad track is quite beautiful too (and a perfect segue from Pauline). Brush with fame dept.: By brother Mike had Tony Conrad as a prof at SUNY Buffalo - !
|

Dave E:
Probably a dumb dinosaur
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:49am
andy/s:
@Looms 'Honky' is a good Melvins album to start with but really you can't go wrong. Don't listen to 'Prick' or 'Colossus of Destiny' first though, they might put you off forever!
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:50am
Dan B:
I suspect Ignatsisaurus of being a MADE-UP dinosaur!
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:50am
silas xxuqt:
dumb is a bad word. | |
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:51am
Looms:
Thanks for the tip, Andy.
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:51am
Dave E:
Ignorant then? | |
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:51am
andy/s:
I thought the Tony Conrad track was pretty joyful, sort of reminded me of Vibracathedral Orchestra a bit. Of course he's been doing that stuff much longer by the looks of things. I love how it all links back!
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:52am
silas xxuqt:
okay. | |
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:52am
Dan B:
@Dave E - for more accordion from Pauline on the recently-reissued "The Wanderer." I also love her collab with Randy Raine-Ruesch on the Driftworks boxset. Also you have to check out some of her early electronic and tape works, many have recently been reissued
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:52am
Dave E:
I mean he is extinct afterall
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:53am
Dan B:
@Dave E and Silas - he may be extinct because he couldn't talk.
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:54am
jcea:
yeah,probably. | |
|
Sun. 6/13/10 8:55am
