You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Listener comments!

Sun. 5/2/10 6:12am Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

I get it. The Who.
Sun. 5/2/10 6:19am Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

I get it. Heroin.
Sun. 5/2/10 6:23am Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

I get it. Buddy Holly.
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:23am Dan B:

@DDGGD, I'm glad one of us gets it. It's the kind of morning where I'm glad my five year old helped me pick out records last night (based on the covers he liked.)
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:27am Tom L:

Hi everybody, I'm here, but I don't really feel like I'm "here."
Sun. 5/2/10 6:28am Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

I was going to request J. Kane to follow Branca and you beat me to it. Despite my nonsense, this is one helluva set. At least you have one listener. :)
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:32am andy/s:

Morning! I would have picked this one out too, with the bees on the cover and everything.
Sun. 5/2/10 6:34am Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Goddamn pilots! Getting rich on the backs of our frequent flier points. Bastard!
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:34am Richard:

Great tunes!
Sun. 5/2/10 6:40am Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

I get it. The Grateful Dead.
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:42am andy/s:

The last time I heard the name Henry Kaiser he was deep sea diving in a Werner Herzog film. Interesting guy!
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:43am Dan B:

@Andy, that worked out quite nicely on the heels of that set, eh? Gorgeous liquid groove crunch in that one. @DDGGD, it's the sullied side of Sullenberger. This is the best Grateful Dead cover of the many issued by the SST label @Tom, nice to have you "along." @Richard, thanks!
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:46am Robert1014:

I loved the piece you played by the Ex. (I loved DOG FACED HERMANS, a band their current (?) guitarist played in...I saw the Hermans by accident at CBGBs opening for another band, and I went to see them intentionally several times later, including their last shows before disbanding. I missed the beginning of your spiel about "no wave." What documentary are you referring to?
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:47am Robert1014:

The piece you're playing now illustrates that the problem with the Dead was not just in their aimless playing but in their aimless "composing." Ugh.
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:50am jk:

hey dan just awoke hk played last night at stone in nyc did you go thanks for show
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:53am @6:47 Robert1014:

Ever listen to the Miles Davs album At The Fillmore? It's not composition. It's jazz.
  Sun. 5/2/10 6:56am Dan B:

@Robert, yeah, I agree about the Dead. Totally love/hate them. The documentary was "Kill Yr Idols." I wouldn't exactly recommend it, but it's fun to see those No Wave folks talking about the music looking back. @JK, I did not see HK last night, did you?
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:01am Robert1014:

KILL YR IDOLS, right! I actually have that! Your discussion of the contretemps between the old No wavers and the new sounded familiar. I would recommend it, actually.
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:11am andy/s:

It's like our annoying politicans over here trying to get elected right now Dan, you can apologise and it helps a little bit but it still happened!
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:13am Dan B:

If I could have added a footnote verbally, it would have said that I'm not really sorry.
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:16am Bas, NL:

Well, on a positive note.. it cured me of a positive feeling towards senseless guitar rock for a long time to come!
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:19am andy/s:

You could just 'accidentally' leave your mic on and say that you're not sorry. That's what the Prime Minister did this week.

Lexie Mountain's voice is powerful, man!
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:22am Dan B:

@Bas, you're welcome, anytime! @Andy, I should pay more attention to politics, it would definitely improve my mic skillzes.
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:26am slugluv1313:

i have not seen the "Kill Yr. Idols" documentary but just requested book of same title from the library -- sounds like a fun read!
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:40am PaulinBerlin:

  Sun. 5/2/10 7:40am Tom L:

O-mar! O-mar! O-mar!
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:42am Dan B:

@slugluv, long time no see -- good morning to you! @Paul, nice to have you along. @Tom, I agree entirely. A little bird told me he might visit NYC this summer (!)
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:44am Tom L:

@Dan B: can you say more!?
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:51am Tom L:

Tom Carter! Tom Carter! Tom Carter!
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:52am Dan B:

Actually I can't -- that's all I heard. When/if there's more info, I'll let you all know.
  Sun. 5/2/10 7:58am slugluv1313:

YES! please do tell when you have the information about OMAR in the Summertime! (hhmm, maybe Celebrate Brooklyn! and/or Summerstage???)
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:02am Davice:

Cha, cha, cha!
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:09am si-boron:

  Sun. 5/2/10 8:12am Dan B:

  Sun. 5/2/10 8:17am ununennium:

  Sun. 5/2/10 8:29am sils:

  Sun. 5/2/10 8:34am andy/s:

  Sun. 5/2/10 8:34am flou-saurus:

  Sun. 5/2/10 8:39am silas:

awnser my fluo-saurus question!!?!!??
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:39am andy/s:

yes sir
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:40am Dan B:

@Silas, yes, there were some in there. But what you were asking about was Georgian men singing -- music from near Russia.
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:42am si-boron:

no!!?!
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:46am Dan B:

@Andy, there's a great sampler on Smithsonian folkways called Classic Maritime Music. Awesome stuff. There's also a great collection called Rogue's Gallery that has all kinds of contemporary bands and musicians doing shanties -- Nick Cave, Sting, White Magic, Akron/Family, Rufus Wainwright, etc etc etc
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:46am Dan B:

@Silas, now this is the Pink Panther-y one.
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:47am dan B(silas):

i was not asking about that!!
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:48am Dan B:

@Silas, which were you asking about? I'm going to play the Swans in a minute.
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:49am slas:

O.K.
  Sun. 5/2/10 8:54am mendeleev:

are you pl. the swans yet?
  Sun. 5/2/10 9:05am andy/s:

  Sun. 5/2/10 4:42pm Looms:
