Interesting story.
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:05am Cecile:

Gary Lucas and Dean Bowman do a great version of Hinay Ma T`ov on their latest record, "Beat the Devil"
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:06am yayson:

speaking of tearing things apart, this is what i was watching when hank came on. very appropriate! two pit bulls tear into a cop car in Tennessee.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8588407.stm

i don't know if it was on the border, tho
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:06am Cecile:

Also, Doug, could you at some point play that great version of Red Top by Anthony Braxton and Muhal Richard Abrams? Not today, just sometime?
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:08am Drummer Some:

It would be my esteemed pleasure, Cecile.
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:08am ∂avid:

  Fri. 3/26/10 10:25am J-Mar:

You know the awesome thing about Hank Williams is that he sounds great no matter whether you're happy or lonesome and blue.
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:27am Cecile:

Country music and buttery-soft, low gluten Southern baked goods. mmmmmmmmm. This is a great nation, fellow listeners.

J-Mar, so very true.
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:27am chris:

amen J-mar. Reminds me of being a kid and spending my summers in rural Minnesota, listening to the local broadcasts late late at night and feeling safe and secure in the music

  Fri. 3/26/10 10:28am J-Mar:

One of the finest writers I've ever had the privilege of working with had the following question taped to his computer:

"Can you say it as plain as Hank Williams?"

I think about that sometimes when I'm trying to crank out a piece of writing for my job.
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:29am MD:

THANK HANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:36am seang:

@ J-Mar --was that Dave Hickey?
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:46am J-Mar:

@seang: do you mean did Dave Hickey say that, or did I work with Dave Hickey (or both)? It makes perfect sense if Dave Hickey was the one who said it first, but I never have had the privilege of working with him. The person in question is Jim Ridley, who for years was the film critic for the alt-weekly in Nashville, and now is the editor. I still maintain he is one of the best critics and writers I've ever read anywhere.
  Fri. 3/26/10 10:52am seang:

Oh, I thought maybe you worked with him. He writes about Hank in the New Literary History of America: http://noiseforitsownsake.blogspot.com/2010/01/poetic-sturdiness-of-hank-williams.html
He also wrote the lyrics to "The Ballad of Billy and Oscar"-incredible lyrics--Jim Dickinson does a cover of it on the album "Free Beer Tomorrow" --whoa long post!
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:06am Hendrik:

Yes De Snaar !! Great record :-)... My father was and is the best friend of this record label's boss :_)
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:19am Cecile:

snaar, where can I find that in any format?
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:22am Drummer Some:

Here Cecile:

http://time-has-told-me.blogspot.com/2009/05/snaar.html
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:24am Cecile:

thank you!
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:25am Pete:

Wow, haven't heard qburns in a while! ;-)
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:29am Drummer Some:

Q-Burns is no relation to X-Ray Burns OR Mr. Burns.
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:31am J-Mar:

...or Panther Burns?
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:33am monica:

i'm floating, doug. great show today!
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:33am still b/p:

George Burns.
"Say good night, feng shui."
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:35am Drummer Some:

Monica,
I'd give anything to be the bass player on this track. Unfortunately, the healing powers of this music is NOT covered in the omnibus Health Care Reform Act!
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:38am Drummer Some:

That Kongo Retro Band track is here:

(Merry Passover!)
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:39am ∂avid:

was this "Money Be No Sand" comp ever featured on the audio motherload?

http://musicformaniacs.blogspot.com/2010/02/afro-spazz.html

it'd fit in great with your show....
  Fri. 3/26/10 11:42am Leigh:

  Fri. 3/26/10 11:43am Drummer Some:
