Speaking of JP Massiera, what about a nice Les Maledictus Sound track? Purchased the cd reissue recently, there's an awesome bonus track on it.

Morning Dan and all. Sorry you aren't feeling well Dan. That bad cold is certainly going around, and is not welcome with Spring! These tunes will hopefully make you feel better.

Do the choral voices belong to the record?
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:18am
Dan B:
Yeah, it was a live record -- they use the chorus to make it seem like he really did something when he says he heard a message from god or healed someone

Ken From Hyde Park:
It's skipping! | |
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:21am
Hector:
Boy, I don't know which one of your last two tracks is more scaring....
|

Bas, NL:
The Needle of God.. | |
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:24am
Bas, NL:
... skips in mysterious ways!
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:27am
Dan B:
@Bas, the needle of God indeed! @Hector, it was the David Epley one, trust me. That fraud was fleecing all those poor sick people for their bucks! he skip was pretty awesome though...@Ken, BTW, I did plan that, just so none of you get the wrong* idea about my DJing skills.... * right

Next week play some some Yelpe Divad! (Doesn't that sound devilish already? Yelps of the Devil?)
|

Hector:
Another day, another discovering! Thanks for the Tamba 4!
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:32am
Ken From Hyde Park:
Yeah, after the skipping part started speeding up and changing pitch, I figured things were under control.
|

Looms:
Actually, the David Epley track sounded to me like some kinf of mystic SF movie soundtrack...
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:42am
Bas, NL:
Fathers can sound like skipping records too, i guess...
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:43am
Joe:
Yeah, loved the David Epley and Soft Machine. I have a daughter who is 4.5. Same thing going on.
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:44am
Looms:
Yes, with kids, you often feel like being a skipped record.

I am in love with Newsom's new record. Can't get this song and '81 out of my head.
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:49am
Dan B:
@Looms, re: the Epley - it *is* like a sci-fi soundtrack, but they're totally for real. I used to go to meetings like that when I was a kid. I remember this one fraud "prophesying" over my parents and really getting to my dad. I'm still pissed about that.

Dan B:
@Tom, I was just going to ask: what's the consensus on the new Newsom record out there? I've just been skimming around it, not sure what I think yet. A 3xCD is rather ambitious, but she's definitely got ambition and the cajones to live it out. Every record, her voice shifts. I like this song a lot.
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:51am
Looms:
I can understand that. | |
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:54am
Bas, NL:
From what i've heard of the new Newsom.. brilliant! She now sounds much more brittle; a bit like Kate Bush.
|
Sun. 3/21/10 7:54am
Tom L:
It is ambitious and sprawling and not everything works. But I'll take that anyday from her. Ys is for me a masterpiece, and this doesn't quite get to that, but there is a lot more confidence in her playing and composition. I saw her play on Thursday at Town Hall and hearing these songs live really impressed me.

Didn't check the Newsom album yet, but the song sounds beautiful (reminds me of some old Kate Bush works).

Morning! UK junk shops/charity shops never have anything as bizarre as that David Epley record. I look in plenty of them, and it's old George Benson records or nothing!

JN's the subject of the 'Invisible Jukebox' feature in the latest Wire magazine and there's some kora talk there too.

Jack Rose & Toumain Diabate playing together must have been an impressive moment! Is there any recording of that meeting?
|

I love this so much. | |

Just say what it is: a free form broadcast.

Okay, those tracks helped to write down how i would describe the Airborne Event: "a free form radio broadcast for open ears and wandering minds". It's always such a pleasure to hear all these kinds of music come together so well.
