Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from January 19, 2010 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Faust  Live from WFMU Fest   Favoriting Music Hall of Williamsburg 10/1/09    A broadcast of the entire performance of German experimental music legends Faust, recorded live at WFMU's 3 night festival at the Music Hall of Williamsburg where the band headlined October 1st. "There is no group more mythical than Faust", said Julian Cope, and indeed, since 1971 the ensemble has created some revolutionary, inventive sounds that helped to firmly establish a German (as opposed to Anglo/American) identity in the realm of psychedelic rock. October's WFMU Fest peformance found longtime mainstays Jean-Herve Peron and Zappi Diermaier joined by James Johnston and Geraldine Swayne for a set of freewheeling electrified mayhem. Classic songs, improvisations, live on-stage painting, WFMU even rented them a cement mixer! Tune in to hear what you missed if you couldn't make it out, or conversely, relive the sounds. Afterwards Brian will be talking to Jean-Herve Peron via telephone and delving more into the past, present and future of the group. Thanks to Scott Williams for recording, Jeff Mullan for the cement mixer rental, Regina Greene, Chantelle Hylton, Liz Berg, and all the WFMU staff and volunteers who helped out at the shows. And Cold Cave and Aluk Todolo for opening.
