You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Here's Blackshaw, also one of my faves. He is planning to come by as a guest for the show soon. Lots of year-end best lists up on the WFMU blog at blog.wfmu.org - I have one that will go up there in coming days.

  Sun. 12/27/09 7:51am Dan B:

I'm going to have to do some digging for some of these faves, you guys -- a lot of them we don't have here!
  Sun. 12/27/09 7:58am Looms:

Actually, i chose for my top 5 some records you didn't play or rarely played on wfmu.
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:00am Looms:

Oh Dan, guess what i've been offered for xmas: a fat Don Delillo anthology featuring Americana, Players, The Names, White Noise and Libra. I'll finally get the clue about the airborne event...
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:03am Dan B:

@Looms: nice gift! I've read (and loved) Libra and White Noise, where you'll find the show's name (with added toxicity).
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:05am Looms:

"added toxicity"... sounds good!
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:35am Tom L:

I am celebrating the end of the year by listening to the Airborne Event through a Korg Kaoss Pad. Recommended.
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:36am Dan B:

Hah! Thanks Tom -- happy new year to you!
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:39am Tom L:

Thanks Dan. You too. Blowing Group Poueh through the Kaoss and adding delays, low pass filters, vocoders, etc. is a good way to bring the brain to life!
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:40am Tom L:

  Sun. 12/27/09 8:40am TC:

You're not using the kaossilator are you? I've been dying to try one out.
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:41am Tom L:

No, Kaoss Pad. Kaossilator is the same basically, though smaller footprint and pad.
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:42am TC:

Good to know in that I suspect the kaos pad goes for a bit less anyway.
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:44am TC:

I was kind of hoping you'd go into Bombino next. Great record.
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:47am Dan B:

Yeah, these Sublime Frequencies albums are killer. Check out the blog Awesome Tapes From Africa too for loads of mp3s of nice raw Africa guitar music & other stuff
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:49am TC:

Thanks, good tip.
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:58am Looms:

Thanks, best wishes for 2010!
  Sun. 12/27/09 8:58am Bas, NL:

  Sun. 12/27/09 11:40am andy/sunderland:

Best wishes for 2010 Dan/Everyone!
  Wed. 12/30/09 4:06am laskitude:

hey mr bodah, i did dearly appreciate your (whatever you do) 'don't take your pre-contact history lessons from the likes of neil young', and your subsequent acknowledgement of the wonderfully, almost 'purely' reportorial! Might you run past me the name of yr cited author again?
  Wed. 12/30/09 7:58pm nondairykramer:

first chance i had to listen. wondrous set. perfect new years eve eve music, Dan.
  Sat. 1/2/10 8:52am Dan B:

@laskitude: the book I mentioned is "The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico" by Bernal Diaz del Castillo. There are various English editions in print, not too hard to come by.
