Listener comments!

  3:05am
Sue:

Good morning, Joe! Long time no see! Happy post Thanksgiving! Hope you had a good one :)
  3:07am
Joe:

Wow, hey Sue! Nice to see you on the "late shift"! :) Hope you had a good one, too.
  3:10am
Sue:

Yeah, Thanksgiving was pretty ok. Ate too much, which felt pretty good. Passed out after all that turkey. I guess that's normal. Did you have a big feast with the fam?
  3:12am
Joe:

Yep, I went home to Pennsyltucky, where I hail from. I lasted about 10 minutes and fell asleep in the armchair. I only ate turkey TWO more times during my visit.
  3:20am
Sue:

Cool, that sounds relaxing. I moved back to the east coast recently, and my family's all here so I was in Jersey with the folks and my little bro. I cooked almost all the sides by myself! I was pretty proud of myself. I actually did it but I was exhausted. So I guess I can't blame my sleepiness solely on the turkey :)
  3:23am
Joe:

Good for you! I cooked absolutely nothing. Usually I try to bake a pumpkin pie for the table, but this year I fell off the turkey wagon. Welcome back to the east! Less rain but more hostility. How can you lose?
  3:33am
Sue:

More hostility? Hmm, I guess that's what I missed about being here in a way, if that makes sense. This is definitely home to me I gotta say. Anything new by you?
  3:41am
Joe:

Yes, I'm getting better at being hostile! Just kidding. Banjos!
  3:41am
Sue:

I missed you by the way! I haven't been able to make your show live for a few weeks, I'm sorry to say. But I want you to know that I've always listened to your archives at least every week. Thank god for those!
  3:44am
Joe:

Gee, shucks, Sue! That makes me feel all warm inside. Thanks for being my faithfulllllllllllest listener!
  3:49am
Sue:

Aww, no sweat, dude. I'm sure I'm not the only one enthralled with your sweet music :) Keep 'em comin'!
  3:51am
Joe:

Thanks, Sue! If you're on the computer, you can watch what I'm currently playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHfQTzDnz9s

slugluv1313:

bummer, i missed SERPENT POWER! weird, i was just thinking of that song a few days ago . . . !
  4:03am
Joe:

Seriously? Wow! I'd seriously play it again for you if it weren't 14 minutes long!
  4:10am
slugluv1313:

no prob! i'll just keep it my brain . . . "Mr. Conductor, tell me where are we going?" "I dunno . . . I'm just following the tracks"
  4:17am
Joe:

Yeah, I love the payoff. Even Death doesn't know where they're going!
  4:20am
slugluv1313:

OMG!!!!!!! i am LOVING this Greek stuff! a friend of mine was telling me about Rembetiko awhile back -- but was never quite sure if i had ever actually heard it before . . . FASCINATING! thanx so much!
  4:21am
slugluv1313:

ah! see, when i was a kid (that song got HEAVY airplay n WNEW-FM, mid 1970s) i was not even aware that he was talking about . . . DEATH!
  4:22am
Joe:

No prob about the Greek underworld stuff--it's truly amazing underground music. There are some really great collections. The one on Trikont that I played is my favorite. Glad you dug it!
  5:28am
matheus:

is that czechoslovakian music?

any Dežo Ursiny?
  5:29am
Joe:

It is! I wish I had you here to pronounce his name for me: Emil Viklicky with an accent on the "y."
  5:30am
matheus:

haha, i'm actually just a brazilian guy who likes czech music.
  5:34am
Joe:

That's cool! Maybe I'll try pronouncing it with a Brazilian accent. I looked quick, but I didn't see any Dezo Ursiny. Will try again next week!
  5:37am
slugluv1313:

great music, history, lyrics! there is a 1983 film "Rembetiko" but cannot seem to find it through my local library system :( but i offer you a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXJQmTSptCc and Roza Eskenazi in 1975 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CZgYdd5Pvw . . . ALL so AMAZING!
  5:39am
matheus:

that was a terrific brazilian accent there, Joe.
  5:42am
Joe:

Thanks, Matheus! I think I got the right lilt. Thanks for the clips, slugluv! Excellent stuff.
  5:54am
Shana:

I don't know if I've ever actually had the radio on when this show was on, but I LOVE it. Without sounding like I'm kissing anyone's ass, I fkn LOVE FMU. It's the only radio station I can put on with a 70% chance I'll pick up on something new that I'm really into or at least find interesting, even when it's 3 hours of the equivalent of vacuum cleaner noise or other 'avant garde' shows. Nice to know they're THERE. (It's also the only radio station I put on, but being a music nazi, i usually always play dj anyway.) Thanks to everyone for the guilt free, bullshit free, perfect radio station. Love you guys.
  5:55am
Joe:

Wow, thanks, Shana! It's because of listeners like you that we're able to keep doing this, so thanks! It's really great to have you aboard.
  5:59am
shana:

poor as i am, you guys are the only entity i've ever donated to, and I do it every year. i have the FMU "badge" thing on my stupidfacebook page & everything. speaking of which, feel free to deny my friend request. I *have* been drinking. = )
  1:46pm
slick:

Fabulous show.
