The closest I came to falling prey to a scam was this job search service that basically gets your financial info and take the rest of your unemployed asses' money. Luckily, I didn't follow through with that - but it's amazing what unscrupulous folks will do.

Btw - one thing is that my mom frequently would subscribe to those get rich quick scams (like subscriptions and the like) - you'd be surprised how even the most heartless of these scams will let you cancel when you explain to them that your mother is sick.
