Favoriting September 21, 2009: From a Distance, The World Closes In: BELL X1 + WILDBIRDS AND PEACEDRUMS live, from Ireland and Sweden, from a distance

One night, two spectacular performances from radically different bands from very different and awesome parts of the planet. At 9pm, Bell X1, from County Kildare, Ireland - these guys come from a future made of pop music that's brighter than anything you've ever heard - a dose of Talking Heads with a Top 40 flair from the year 2045. They drop by to play songs from their new album "Blue Lights on the Runway," out now on Yep Roc.

Then at 10 o'clock, Swedish two-piece Wildbirds & Peacedrums rock the studio with stripped-down Kate Bush-ian tribal vocals and bold, bare drums tinged with splashes of production that will make your face tingle. Their new album "The Snake" is out now on The Control Group, and they're playing tomorrow at The Bell House.

C:

i can't believe you just did this. by the way, these have to be the absoulte dumbest lyrics ever written. if you just don't look too closely at anything, then everything appears fine even if it's really fucked up in reality. great message, bette.
  8:05pm
paul:

starring bette midler as.................................... ....................................... ....................................... ........................................ ........................................ ......... the ring master!

  9:17pm

  9:23pm
leital:

Wendy and Lisa! Recently heard an awesome interview w/ them on Sound Opinions. I had no idea they were lovahs and had so much to do w/ Prince's sound.
  9:24pm
Irwin:

Thanks Trent (and Hatch!). I just downloaded this great W&L track and will recycle it some Weds. afternoon.
  9:32pm
trent:

you are quite welcome, I had that same idea from hatch. Let's make it a week for "waterfall" ! Kind of like a benefit. Maybe we can drive them mysteriously up in itunes sales.
  9:40pm
Laurie:

I first heard this Tiesto/Tegan & Sara song on Sulimay's. I don't think Joe liked it.
  9:45pm
trent:

  9:51pm
trent:

i feel like he occupies a universe i need to work harder to get inside of
  9:51pm
Laurie:

Trent: I don't know much about it. It's three old farts from Philly who sit in a diner, eat breakfast, and listen to popular music. Actually, it's a little more than that, and I really love Joe, especially his facial expressions when he listens to music. Too funny! Joe's also a pretty good interviewer! He has interviewed Holy Fuck, Fuck Buttons, and some bands that don't have "fuck" in their names. Actually, only one other band. Apparently. Mogwai.
  9:54pm
Laurie:

Oh, I also think of Alby from Big Love whenever I hear the Killers. Awwww poor closeted Mormons. :'(
  10:00pm
A:

Nothing witty or obscure to say. Simply: great show, as always.
  10:00pm
dave:

if stoney, psychedelic records are making you want to shoot yourself in the face, you might want to ease off on the combat drugs and switch to something a bit less harsh.
  10:01pm
dave:

also: this is the one true bright side to the presence of the dead kennedys in rock band.

that and it's a whole mess of fun to play 'police truck'.
  10:05pm
a man with heavy head:

I like the rock band and to a lesser extent the guitar hero games but I can't stand the way it looks when they try to model actual people in the games. They need to just stop that.
  10:56pm
charles:

Hey Trent, I'm trying to find a song yuo played a couple weeks ago: syoung Russian girl, dancey - sounded about two or three years old. It might not have even been Russian, but it sounded like TATU. I think the chorus went:
shtep-a-fey, shtep-a-fey, shtep-a-feyyay
repeated a couple times.
  11:14pm
mb:

missed a cool show
  12:20pm
Ike:

Really great show from what I heard. Wow, did you actually play Bette Midler? I missed that. I must compliment you on your gigantic cojones. When I heard you back-announce that, I figured I must have misheard you. I thought it must have been "Mett Bidler" (an obscure breakcore group from Montana, or Idaho, or Tuva, but they only exist in my mind).
