Playlist for The Evan "Funk" Davies Show - September 8, 2009

Tuesdays 11pm - 2am on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Starting with the 70s -- it could be a classic (or obscure) punk rocker, a forgotten disco diva, a long-unheard hit record, or none of these. What happens next depends on what's in the WFMU new bin and whether I remember my records from home. Tune in and find out! You'll even hear a live band once in a while.

I haven't thought about Diana Dors in years. She was a pinup/sweater girl and actress in the 60s in the UK -- did she ever havce any success over here?

Little known fact -- her birthname was Diana Fluck. Be careful pronouncing it.

Tue. 9/8/09 11:21pm From: Joe

pronunciation hint: the "l" is silent

Tue. 9/8/09 11:24pm From: Joe

Everytime you've played this Bare Wires, I've not been paying attention. So now I'm dealing with the interesting phenomenon of being fully capable to sing along to a song I've never actually -heard- before.

The only other place where that's happened to me is with the Moody Blues songs my mother started exposing me to in utero.

Tue. 9/8/09 11:24pm From: FCC

Nah I'm just kidding - you alright, man.

Wed. 9/9/09 12:20am From: Joe

Actually, you know what, hating on Yo La Tengo on a WFMU message board is an intensely ballsy move. I support it.

Wed. 9/9/09 12:21am From: tim

i love yo la tengo. im just not sure its my kind of record.

Wed. 9/9/09 12:24am From: tim

Wed. 9/9/09 12:30am From: Joe

New Raekwon is super dope. Picked it up before class, been bumping it all day. Not sure if it's instant classic status yet though. I am currently located in the beautiful Skylands of North Jersey, sir.

Wed. 9/9/09 12:35am From: tim

Wed. 9/9/09 1:22am From: coalhard

FANTASTIC SHOW!!!!!LOVE WFMU

Wed. 9/9/09 1:22am From: Joe

How can you go wrong with a comp called "Steppin' into the 80s?"

Is the cover art suitably 80sish?

Wed. 9/9/09 1:24am From: stingy d

yo funkaho! i can't listen right now but yr in my heart! (no homo)

Wed. 9/9/09 1:25am From: Joe

That was literally the greatest comment ever.

Wed. 9/9/09 1:33am From: efd

Joe, that's a hard point to argue.

Wed. 9/9/09 1:34am From: Amanda

I will not be arguing it either.

Certainly an 80stastic album cover, enhanced by the console in the background of the photo, which I thought at first was part of the cover art.

Wed. 9/9/09 1:34am From: Joe

I know, I'm a little upset about it. stingy d might have won at commenting, forever.

PS - That cover exceeded my expectations in ways I can only barely comprehend. The fonts! The lineup! THE SHOES!

Wed. 9/9/09 1:35am From: Joe

And of course, the crushed beer can, just to make it edgy.

Wed. 9/9/09 1:41am From: efd

yeah, there was too much glare when i tried to do a straight overhead shot, so i had to lean it against something and the console was the handiest thing.

Wed. 9/9/09 1:47am From: Amanda

But the console is even in the same color scheme!

It's like it took everything you thought you knew about the 80s and made you re-understand it. (I am referring to stingy's comment.)

Wed. 9/9/09 1:51am From: Danne D

Hi Amanda! :) (wow, you're up late!)
And good night funk friends!
:)

Wed. 9/9/09 1:53am From: coalhard

Wed. 9/9/09 1:54am From: Danne D

Ted Leo :)
okay now I really am going to sleep!

Wed. 9/9/09 1:55am From: Amanda

I know... didn't think I'd get in from JC in time to catch any of you, but glad I did. Goodnight!

This version of this song has been in my head all day...

Wed. 9/9/09 2:06am From: Peteski

Great show, thanks for that Steppin into the 80s pic, (and liked the "Do you think Kim Clijsters is a fan of Wooden Shjips?" tweet) and the smart aleck FOT/BS asides.

Fri. 9/18/09 9:30am From: JonFromMaplewood

What is the bed music? And if it changes, what was the bed music specifically on the evening of September 8, 2009? It burned my eyebrows off. Thank you in advance. -Jon
