Goooooooooooooood morning.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:04am From: nasok

Thu. 9/3/09 9:04am From: Bad Ronald

Good morning Hatch, where's the royal blue background?

Thu. 9/3/09 9:04am From: Dr Morbius

g'morning Hatch! forgot about the Bangles cover.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:05am From: robin

good morning from the uk :-)

Thu. 9/3/09 9:07am From: Hatch

Ronald, we have switched to a more conservative brown background.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:08am From: Bad Ronald

Understood.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:11am From: Parq

Great jangly-guitar kick off!

Thu. 9/3/09 9:13am From: PMD

Hey! It's Hatch! Mornin' all...

Thu. 9/3/09 9:18am From: north guinea hills

i had this congregacion on this 11 cd wyrd folk comp, i loaned it 4 years ago, and never asked for it back.... i needs it back!

Thu. 9/3/09 9:19am From: maggie

heron!! so lovely. thank you hatchy.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:25am From: Parq

NGH, record/CD people and book people, more than anyone else, need to heed the Bard [sorry, Nick]; never a borrower nor a lender be.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:26am From: efd

I should have called that premium "20 more songs from the year Hatch was born (give or take a year)."

Thu. 9/3/09 9:26am From: nasok

i am surprised that the recent pajo misfits cover album has not gotten a lot of love on the woof moo.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:28am From: north guinea hills

I get more then 90% of my recs/books back. At least i know who posses my wayward recs/books. I've always have been my friend's media library.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:30am From: Hatch

Nasok, I don't think we've gotten a copy yet... hence the lack of love. It's definitely getting to be that Misfits time of year...

Thu. 9/3/09 9:31am From: Cheri Pi

This Tami Lynn song is outta control!

Thu. 9/3/09 9:37am From: maggie

she forget the tablespoon of ennui!!

Thu. 9/3/09 9:40am From: maggie

also (sorry i can't stop myself this morning) the hook of this jay-z song sounds like coldplay. right?

Thu. 9/3/09 9:41am From: Hatch

All Jay-Z sort of sounds like Coldplay nowadays...

Thu. 9/3/09 9:51am From: Cecile

Hatch, if your heart is in that, some Sweet or some old schoo AC/DC

DAMN, old school house!

Thu. 9/3/09 9:52am From: Cecile

is that yacht?
They did a shoutout to Adonis!

Thu. 9/3/09 9:53am From: Hatch

We're gonna get to some crunchy, glammy stuff later fo' sho'.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:53am From: Cecile

nice.

Thu. 9/3/09 9:54am From: Cecile

jacking body in 3..2..1..

Thu. 9/3/09 9:54am From: nasok

is this song about VD?

Thu. 9/3/09 9:55am From: Cecile

AH, it is old school house
Maybe?
Oh, this ain't Yacht, I should be ashamed as I have this.

I LOVE IT THOUGH.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:10am From: Laurie

Hiiiiiiiiiii Hatch.

Hatch, you didn't like that D.O.A. song?

Thu. 9/3/09 10:12am From: Hatch

Oh heeeeeeeeeeell no. But compared to some of the other songs on the record it's not that bad, I suppose.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:16am From: Laurie

Eh, my first introduction to the song was the video. I think the Harvey Keitel cameo colored how I feel about the song. Also, my hatred of T-Painful.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:18am From: Cecile

T-Pain did kind of redeem himself on Robot Chicken last week. But I know. Oh, how I do know.

hey, didn't Jay write a song about rappers using Auto Tune being wimps?

Thu. 9/3/09 10:23am From: Hatch

T-Pain has been doing that same thing for 5 years. Whereas Jay-Z has been doing that same thing for... how long now???

Thu. 9/3/09 10:24am From: efd

wow, thanks for the link(s) to 45 Revolutions - I hadn't heard of that book or site before, looks great!

Thu. 9/3/09 10:25am From: Cecile

hey, efd, how did the outrageous cherry in studio go?

Thu. 9/3/09 10:25am From: annie

i really have been listening, just too much going on...

Thu. 9/3/09 10:29am From: fidel

hatch, what is this mic break music? it's lovely.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:30am From: efd

Cecile, they were great! The set sounded awesome.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:30am From: nightshifter

BLTs

Thu. 9/3/09 10:31am From: Laurie

I know why. True Blood is awesome.

Season 2 gets better. More Alexander Skarsgård, more Laffy Taffy. Meow.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:31am From: Chris

I'm guessing the music bed was Michael Rother?

Thu. 9/3/09 10:31am From: annie

is it graveyard, like 11-7?

Thu. 9/3/09 10:31am From: Hatch

That was La Dusseldorf, mi comandante.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:31am From: Tom ( The Bactrian Support Network )

Well,,, from my own experience ,, like Mid12 to like 8am not so bad but like say 4pm to Mid 12 ? YUCK.... you gotta "roll with it" in summer it's a bummer though is a all I can say !

Thu. 9/3/09 10:32am From: PMD

I missed the question you need advice on. But re: True Blood, we all need to ingest some crap sometime.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:32am From: Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn

Who was the Bozo that gave Orrin Hatch a shift on WFMU?

Thu. 9/3/09 10:33am From: Hatch

It's 7pm-ish to 5am-ish. Ack!

Thu. 9/3/09 10:33am From: Rob W

We have the same feeling about True Blood... it's ridiculous but we're hooked. Definitely a guilty pleasure. The current season in which the entire town runs amok under the influence of a maenad is particularly over the top!

Thu. 9/3/09 10:34am From: trsh

hey hatch, you can maybe try to quickly adjust w/ some jetlag stuff - see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7414437.stm

"When food is scarce, the feeding clock overrides the master clock, keeping animals awake until they find food. "

And keep it dark when you want to sleep and maybe take some supplemental vitamin D if you'll be missing much light

Thu. 9/3/09 10:35am From: Chris

Ooh, close anyway.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:36am From: annie

i did a graveyard shift once.... i went to sleep right after work and woke around 1 or 2... and to get back in the groove, melatonin is helpful for some people.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:39am From: Cecile

I used to do that annie when I worked graveyards.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:40am From: Hatch

Yeah taking melatonin is definitely a good idea, if you're a gravedigger or an undertaker.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:41am From: annie

most people i know who work overnight, sleep as soon as they get home...

Thu. 9/3/09 10:42am From: annie

C - ;)

Thu. 9/3/09 10:43am From: ~L

The books it's based on are even worse, but still some what addicting. Every time I finish one I say "Never again", until I find I'm reading another one. About your sleep, you'll need total quiet and darkness to sleep deeply enough during the day. So go buy an eye mask and ear plugs, pretend you are a vampire and use towels to block out all sunlight from your room.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:55am From: trsh

Boiling down that bbc article on circadian and feeding clocks -- fast for ~16 hrs to engage the new clock.

Thu. 9/3/09 10:59am From: annie

i suggest if you eat anything, make it protein; carbs will make you sleepy. those pemmican bars are great.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:00am From: fishmonkeystew

I always found that 3rd shift made me save cash, cuz all I did was work and sleep. Of course, I live out in the woods, without the temptations of city life to draw me out during the day.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:02am From: Cecile

annie, I read somewhere that carbs wake guys up, where they make women sleepy.

fms, that was pretty much my story, too.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:03am From: annie

i'm thinking of the crash that ensues..

Thu. 9/3/09 11:07am From: trsh

when the new 'clock' starts. If you were traveling to Japan, this research would suggest to begin on the plane and eat when you land. So.. begin when your shift starts? Reschedule your meals and your sleep will follow.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:16am From: frenchee

Nice to hear you in the daytime, Hatch. Love that Rollergirl song. GRRRRR le français!

Thu. 9/3/09 11:17am From: Parq

I'm kinda thinking that, if this is only one week, then you just need to ride it out. Any adjustment would take several days, and by then you're halfway done and have to re-adjust in just a few days more.

Has my browzer gone weird, or are other people seeing the comments double-spaced?

Thu. 9/3/09 11:20am From: PMD

Parq, you're weird.
And your browser too.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:21am From: north guinea hills

WTH? I like this Erykah Badu.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:23am From: Laurie

Oh dear, this lady needs to diaf.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:24am From: Jonathan Steinke

Was that Elizabeth Elijah Nikomia, by chance?

Thu. 9/3/09 11:24am From: trsh

So does this lady get previews of everything else her kids are potentially exposed to?

Thu. 9/3/09 11:24am From: Hatch

Of course you like it Guinea... it's a Madlib beat, with a Yamasuki sample. Not yer average Erykah Badu track.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:24am From: DJ Majiq

Lady...take a pill

Thu. 9/3/09 11:27am From: jeanne

Cool--keep the political agenda outa the schools

Thu. 9/3/09 11:28am From: Hatch

????!?!?!?!!?!

Thu. 9/3/09 11:29am From: jeanne

!!!##@$!!@!@SHOCKING!

Thu. 9/3/09 11:30am From: annie

i've seen one instance where, in the video, the children were singing songs using obama's full name and reciting some stuff about how they will help their country change. i only watched it once.. there has been such an uproar, that the speech we has gonna give next week has apparently been canceled.. we shall see.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:33am From: angela!

I AM LOVING THIS SHOW!! Will it be archived?? YAY!!! A!!!!!

Thu. 9/3/09 11:34am From: ?

you can compare anything you want. you can say anything you want.....last time i checked

Thu. 9/3/09 11:35am From: listener in SF

What do you mean, you can't believe it's now legitimate discourse to compare the President to Hitler?People compared Bush to Hitler all the time for 8 years...

Thu. 9/3/09 11:36am From: annie

thank god for the truthful and informative views we can get on facebook!! <s>

Thu. 9/3/09 11:37am From: Kyle

Well, people made hitler comparisons in the Bush years, but not so much in "legitimate" media outlets---I think that's what Hatch is getting at.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:37am From: north guinea hills

Glen beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:37am From: kelly in SF

that clip was so ridiculous, and it's terrifying to think that there's (i think?) a large group of people in this country who think that way. i mean, it can only be good for school kids to watch the nation's president giving speeches. we did when we grew up. that woman sounded psycho. these crazies are taking all of this personally and believing everything that rush limbaugh says. i'm not exactly sure how people get so stupid.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:38am From: Hatch

People compared Bush to Hitler on Air America, maybe. If you went on CNN and compared him to Hitler, it would not fly. When it's Obama, suddenly it's fair game.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:38am From: jeanne

flouride and TV

Thu. 9/3/09 11:38am From: anna

little hitler death panels

Thu. 9/3/09 11:39am From: kelly in SF

also, that woman implied that obama is trying to influence little kids. that shows that this woman doesn't even understand how things work. obama isn't requiring that school kids watch his videos....that's the school (or possibly just the teacher) setting curriculum. this degree of stupidity is honestly unbelievable to me....

Thu. 9/3/09 11:40am From: annie

yeah, we watched kennedy speeches all the time..i'm curious if the school represented in the video is an inner city school, what city. etc.. is it an isolated school??

Thu. 9/3/09 11:41am From: trsh

Re: rescheduling eating times to help adjust

I found the detail -- figure out when your new breakfast time is and fast 16hrs before that.

So for a 7pm start? New breakfast is ~6-6:30pm. You'd start that first fast at 2:30-3am.

Adjust to suit your own regular eating schedule.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:41am From: jeanne

Obama on the Youth Corps: "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded."

Thu. 9/3/09 11:42am From: listener in SF

DJs blathering their politics = Hitler to my ears

Thu. 9/3/09 11:43am From: Hatch

Feel free to change the station, buddy. I'm not a fuckin' iPod.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:44am From: anna

hah! wait i'm not listening to my ipod...

Thu. 9/3/09 11:45am From: mb

calm as you are, Hatch. calm as you are.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:45am From: Cecile

I do believe that was the principle behind Civil Defense in the 50s and 60s

It didn't work, but that was the dream.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:46am From: angela!

What about ME!! I am ENJOYING the music!!!! I hope the show is archived so I can listen to it again!! I can't believe people get bent out of shape about open discourse. Crazy people suck.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:47am From: Lou

ah the beauty of freeform...djs can play and say what they want...why i love WFMU!

Thu. 9/3/09 11:47am From: Hatch

Thanks Angela. I'm enjoying the music too. It's all archived, every show!

Thu. 9/3/09 11:47am From: kelly in SF

good for you, hatch! i agree - i mean, if you're generous enough to show up at the station each week and play good music for us, and also spend time at home preparing, i think you have a right to do some talking. thanks for all you do for us!

Thu. 9/3/09 11:48am From: annie

Lou; what you said.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:49am From: will

Saw the Scruffs 20 years ago somewhere in Manhattan and the opener was Thor! I call that the good old days.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:49am From: jeanne

great music.thanks Hatch.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:50am From: Hatch

Hell of a lineup, Will! Man I love the Scruffs... just discovered them recently.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:52am From: stu in nyc

I LOVE THIS SET !

Thu. 9/3/09 11:53am From: north guinea hills

as much as i disagree w/ listener in SF's tone of rhetoric, there has been a precedent for american presidents being compared to Hitler.

thanks for keeping me awake at work, Hatch.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:53am From: stu in nyc

jangle rules (politics drools)

Thu. 9/3/09 11:53am From: annie

hatch... it's been great!!! as usual.. thanks!!

Thu. 9/3/09 11:54am From: north guinea hills

almost ended it w/ happy end..... very nice....

Thu. 9/3/09 11:55am From: Hatch

Thanks everybody! So nice to be here with y'all in the morning again...

Thu. 9/3/09 11:55am From: PKNY

That Happy End track is nice, thanks for playing it!

Thu. 9/3/09 11:56am From: PMD

Though this is great music, this last one is making me nod off. Oh, maybe it's the crash from the carbs I ate earlier. Imagine that.

Thu. 9/3/09 11:57am From: annie

pmd- :)

Thu. 9/3/09 12:00pm From: Parq
