Listener comments!

  12:04pm Parq:

Ellie forever.
  12:05pm Cecile:

Oh, I didn't know she'd passed. Oh.
  12:05pm Carmichael:

Very nice start, Joe!
  12:06pm annie:

nice music, thanks!!
  12:08pm DeemerDave:

Downbeat 5 sounds a bit like Blondie to me.
  12:08pm Parq:

'Cile, if you get a chance to hit the archives, last 40 mins or so of Spazz from last Thurs.

Man, I dug the catch in the Downbeat 5 singer's voice.
  12:08pm Dominick:

Thanks for the Ellie
  12:10pm Parq:

Deemer, Blondie did that same number on their late-90s reunion release.
  12:10pm Cecile:

I will! thanks, Parq
  12:11pm Joe B:

Hey Parq, on some of the DB5 rockers, their singer comes off as the female Bon Scott! Recommended!
  12:14pm Joe B:

Also, for the definitive Ellie tribute, check Gaylord's archive from Sunday.
  12:14pm Cecile:

that's a great comparison, Joe!
  12:14pm DeemerDave:

Thanks, Parq. I don't believe I've heard that recording either.
  12:16pm Cecile:

if there was no Ellie Greenwich, there would be no Blondie.
  12:17pm Parq:

Is "What's a Girl" the answer song to "Look of Love"? You know, from the new girlfriend?

Gaylord did a Greenwich trib? I'm so on it.
  12:22pm Joe M.:

There's also a 1975 demo version of "Out in the Streets" on the CD reissue of Blondie's first album.
  12:26pm annie:

i'm enjoying this thoroughly. outside rebuilding the greenhouse, keep it up!!!! just came in to say huzzahh!! thanks!
  12:27pm Carmichael:

I've been waiting for this! And one other "throwaway" song .....
  12:31pm Ry:

vermont loves the cramps!
  12:34pm Dean Rispler:

JOE BELOCK DOES THE HANKY PANKY!!!
  12:36pm Bad Ronald:

Stinky!!!
  12:36pm Cyn:

Hey Dean, Joe gave you a birthday shout out last week! Hope it was a good one!
  12:37pm C:

i hankied in my pankys once when i was drunk.
  12:37pm Bert Convy:

My baby does the stinky pinky.
  12:38pm efd:

I'm waiting for the guys working in my house today to ask me why i keep listening to the same song over and over.
  12:39pm Parq:

Great Scott! Of all the times I could have picked to go to the mail room . . .
  12:40pm ?:

wonderful!!!!
  12:41pm Dean Rispler:

Cynthia - I was away in South Carolina! I wish I could've heard it.
Joe - thanks so much. It is greatly appreciated.
  12:44pm Jimmy Safechuck:

So how *do* you do the Hanky Panky? My baby's been asking.
  12:47pm C:

i received college credit for learning how to hanky but dropped out before the panky class.
  12:48pm Carmichael:

I was stuck in a meeting with lawyers and missed the 5678s .. One of my faves.
  12:50pm Carmichael:

Joe, the other one I hoped you would play is "Doo Wah Diddy".
  12:50pm ?:

Where the hell is my Goddamn agent?!
  12:51pm gumby:

meeting with lawyers, talk about your hanky panky going on there!
  12:51pm dragnflyshards:

german version?...danish or swedish would be cool!..ukranian !...(where's Ken)---Jimmy S.-One day you just realize you're doing it !
  12:56pm Carmichael:

No kidding, Gumby!

Hey, the Brill Building alums could be an entire show. A couple of shows. A bunch of shows.
  1:02pm Marshall Stacks:

The Ike & Tina version of this is great, of course. As is the Flamin' Groovies cover.

Yeah yeah yeah!
  1:15pm Parq:

I said in another forum that Ellie at least lived long enough to see Phil get his, and someone whose opinion I value took offense at that. Is there any reason to think that she stayed in his corner?
  1:17pm Joe B:

I don't think they had a falling out. Spector made her a shitload of money. Spector mainly screwed his artists but I can't say for sure. I know he kept trying to make her and Jeff Barry write together as they were breaking up and shortly after, so I'm sure that was uncomfortable.
  1:26pm Karen:

What movie is that photo on the main page from? I'm wracking my brains and can't recall. Senility is killing me.
  1:27pm Rob F:

Thanks for the Outrageous Cherry spin. Love these guys - and looking forward to Evan's show tonight.
  1:29pm John M:

Outrageous cherry is ripping of the Silver Jews' lyrics from "Trains across the Sea": "It's been evening all day long..."
  1:30pm Carmichael:

That "ooohh la la la" comes from Cockney Rebel's "Make Me Smile".
  1:30pm mike:

can we get some older outrageous cherry? some of the swirly super psychedelic stuff? the soundrack to mp3 player visualizations everywhere!
  1:30pm Bert Convy:

Anyone here speak Farsi?
  1:32pm ?:

hate to disappoint you but OC have been around a HELL of alot longer than Silver Jews. They rip off alot of people but I doubt a side project like silver jews iso ne of them.
  1:32pm Carmichael:

Karen, I right-clicked to save the picture. It was already titled "Haunted Sea".
  1:32pm efd:

Karen, it's from the Roger Corman movie "Creature of the Haunted Sea."
(I won't claim to know it on sight-- checked the photo name and did a little googling)
  1:34pm Cecile:

I don't know
Matt Smith has a HUGE record collection and is tuned into a lot of things. And, great minds can think alike. Or they might be ripping 'em off in an honorable way. Who knows?
  1:35pm gumby:

Can anyone tell me what Live Nation does that they get $12 a ticket?
  1:36pm mike:

oh yeah, that's what i'm talking about.
  1:37pm Wallace Stevens:

It was evening all day
It was snowing and it was going to snow.
  1:42pm Parq:

Gumby, what they do is, they operate in the 21st century, when the only function of entertainment is to move as much consumer money into the hands of big corps. as possible.
  1:45pm efd:

Joe, thanks for the plug(s)! And thanks for being on vacation when OC were in town. The live set is pretty great, if I do say so myself (not that I did anything besides stand there and watch, enthralled).
  1:45pm Cousin Oliver:

Live Nation uses that money to buy Sham Wows for their offices.
  1:45pm Cecile:

in the Hitchhiker's Guide world, they would be on the planet with the telephone sanitizers
  1:46pm gumby:

I think Live Nation has singlehandedly inspired me to learn my guitar chords and entertain myself.
  1:49pm Karen:

Thanks Carmichael & efd!
  1:49pm Cecile:

Wau y los Arggghs?
  1:50pm Cecile:

Yay!
  1:51pm Parq:

I'm off the grid, as far as Corporate Musicland is concerned. Don't buy the CDs, listen to the radio stations, or go to the shows at all any more. Barely even know what's out there. Planet Wal-Mart can have the lot of it, I say.
  1:55pm annie:

when i first heard the expression "my old man" i was eight or so around 1960. i was astounded that someone would refer to a parent like that. when did the meaning transition to "boyfriend" i wonder.
  1:56pm Cecile:

I think with bikers? the whole "poppa and momma" thing.
  1:56pm Carmichael:

Speaking of Sham Wows, have you seen Vince's new commercial for the Slap Chop? Same shpiel, different product. "Got it there, camera guy?"
  1:56pm Cecile:

spaghetti, linguine, martini, bikini...
  1:58pm Cousin Oliver:

Vince got into a scrape with a prostitute in Miami a few months ago. Wound up in the clink for the night.
  1:59pm Karen:

Bet they loved his nuts.
  2:01pm Carmichael:

I'm going to the State Fair this weekend, and I'm looking for the building with those guys selling their crap. Gotta see how good they are; maybe buy a left-handed screwdriver or something.
  2:04pm Cecile:

get some Orange Glo and pour it in the drain for dead homie Billy Mays
  2:06pm Cousin Oliver:

Billy Mays poisoned Michael Jackson, then, guilt ridden, killed himself.
  2:06pm Carmichael:

Will do. Poor Billy; all others pale in comparison. Especially that greasy Ron Popeil.
  2:08pm Cousin Oliver:

Still got my Pocket Fisherman.
  2:14pm Cecile:

that would make sense if he hadn't died a couple of months before Michael!!! ;D Unless he had a time machine to throw off the cops.
  2:19pm Cousin Oliver:

I've said too much already.
  2:23pm Steve Greenfield:

Wow, sorry I couldn't tune in from the beginning. I'll have to listen from the top when it's archived. Not sure I'll make it through all the hanky-pankies, though. But since hayfever season is now in very high gear, anyone with a hanky can be my baby through the end of September!
  2:24pm Cousin Oliver:

MJ bought it it three days before Billy.
  2:33pm Cecile:

Oh, no. Billy, Billy, Billy Billy.
  2:42pm Cecile:

that's a spot on your legacy all the Oxy-Clean in the world can't remove.
  2:45pm Cousin Oliver:

Last line of his obit was "But WAIT, there's MORE!"
  2:47pm minnie the moocha:

great show today joe your the best dj.
  2:48pm Carmichael:

Thanks for the great set, Joe!
  2:55pm Parq:

Weird Al dug Ron Popeil, and even used his sister, Lisa, as a back up singer for years. Just sayin'.
  2:55pm C:

Is "look for some action" a bare wires original or cover? afraid to google it at work! great song regardless.
  2:57pm Cecile:

cool bit of trivia, Parq!
  2:58pm Chris:

they monitoryour google at work C? that sucks. great set!
