AMEN DUNES plays live!
Amen Dunes is Damon McMahon and Sara Shaw. Both played beautiful Gibson SGs on this, the day of the death of Les Paul. Damon also sang and Sara also played a sampler. So you know, their name has nothing at all to do with Amon Düül. What a beautiful set they pulled off on a really dark day. The set was engineered by Jason Sigal, with Caleb Townsend assisting

Thu. 8/13/09 12:52pm From: Parq

Name another American 20th century musician so important that there is a musical instrument named after him that's known to virtually every kid learning to play. Go ahead, try to name one besides Les. Nuff said. RIP.

Thu. 8/13/09 12:54pm From: will

I hate to say this but this Amen song sounds like "Bittersweet Symphony" all drugged up.

Thu. 8/13/09 12:57pm From: AnAnonymousParty

I can't tell you how many lawns I mowed to earn enough money to but one of them Les Paul guitars at 16 yrs old. 34 years later I'm still playing it and wouldn't trade or sell it for anything. Still plays like a sumbitch.

Thu. 8/13/09 12:58pm From: Swami

Parq,
Perhaps you've heard of a Mr. Kevin Stratocaster? How 'bout Barry Telecaster?

Thu. 8/13/09 12:58pm From: Cecile

ci-TAY

Thu. 8/13/09 1:01pm From: Glenn L

Goddamn that Citay sounds good.
Hats off to the engineer!

Thu. 8/13/09 1:02pm From: Leo Fender

Welcome to heaven, old friend.

Thu. 8/13/09 1:02pm From: Cecile

Did you engineer it Glenn? ;)

Thu. 8/13/09 1:04pm From: Scott

you're too darn kind Glenn. Glenn L, y'all, is one of the best. Glenny Golden Ears, I call him. Not yet to his face.

Thu. 8/13/09 1:04pm From: Glenn L

Wasn't me.
I'm not one to toot my own horn like that.

Thu. 8/13/09 1:06pm From: Cecile

it is a beautiful performance, beautifully engineered.

You should toot your own horn.

Thu. 8/13/09 1:06pm From: what about

Harold Rhodes

Thu. 8/13/09 1:08pm From: Glenn L

Thanks Cecile, but it was all our DJ.

Thu. 8/13/09 1:09pm From: Scott

Thu. 8/13/09 1:10pm From: Cecile

AH. good job, scott!
Well done!

Thu. 8/13/09 1:14pm From: Scott

Thanks! They were freakin fabuloso, I just had to turn the tape recorder on

Thu. 8/13/09 1:16pm From: north guinea hills

i dug guirarrorisms, aurally baileyesque....

Thu. 8/13/09 1:16pm From: Cecile

They can play, that's for damn sure.
But it takes smarts to know to stay out of the way. ;D

Thu. 8/13/09 1:19pm From: Parq

Swami, I thought they were lawyers - Stratocaster and Telecaster Esqs., responsible for the landmark court ruling that Pete Townsend smashing a Les Paul guitar was not assault.

Here's a tidbit from the Good Grey; Paul, on his first solid-body guitar:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/14/arts/music/14paul.html?hp

So Christopher Guest was paraphrasing the great man himself in "Spinal Tap". Who knew?

Thu. 8/13/09 1:20pm From: Parq

Oh sorry, trying to multi-task here. The quote is:

“You could go out and eat and come back and the note would still be sounding,” Mr. Paul once said.

Thu. 8/13/09 1:25pm From: north guinea hills

is Nagorny Krabach someone's name, or just taken from the contested Armenian region Azerbaijan?

Thu. 8/13/09 1:31pm From: Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn

You can't HANDLE what's on MY mind.

Thu. 8/13/09 1:38pm From: BSI

whoo!
got back from lunch just in time to hear some prime Psychedelic Underground material! One of my top five tracks forever!

bless you sir.

Thu. 8/13/09 1:38pm From: Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn

What's on my mind, you ask? I'll tell you. If you rearrange the letters of "Guarana Superpower" you get "A Guru Now Reappears." Coincidence? I think not.

Thu. 8/13/09 2:00pm From: kathryn

You cry for progress, but I scream for ice cream!

Thu. 8/13/09 2:01pm From: BSI

Plastic Crimewave Sound... Caught these guys in DC playing with Djinn Aquarian a while back: crispy awesome show that was.

Thu. 8/13/09 2:01pm From: dc pat

where did they play BSI?

Thu. 8/13/09 2:04pm From: BSI

DCP:
That was at the Velvet Lounge, last november. With Kohoutek, Mondo Drag, and some shitweasel calling himself BSI...

Thu. 8/13/09 2:07pm From: dc pat

gotcha, I'll have to look out for the shitweasel..

Thu. 8/13/09 2:23pm From: Tomas

You know, I was just thinking I feel like a violin being played knee deep in the ocean.

Thu. 8/13/09 2:27pm From: jeff_m

im ready

Thu. 8/13/09 2:37pm From: Parq

Ah, at last! Got back from lunch errands just in time.

Thu. 8/13/09 2:47pm From: dc pat

if one of those guys isn't using a Telecaster, my name isn't dc pat.

Thu. 8/13/09 2:48pm From: Scott

Sorry Tadpole, or whoever you are now - they're both playing SGs. Les Paul, werd.

Thu. 8/13/09 2:49pm From: dc pat

nope, sorry, you must be mistaken somehow...

Thu. 8/13/09 2:50pm From: Scott

I'm sure it's the Fender Twin that's got you confused

Thu. 8/13/09 2:51pm From: dc pat

SG's have single coils?

Thu. 8/13/09 2:52pm From: jeff_m

p90s maybe. or turned down volume ...
the guitars are right in front of them

Thu. 8/13/09 2:55pm From: dc pit

well if it's going to sound that much like a Telecaster, then GET A FREAKIN TELECASTER!

Thu. 8/13/09 2:56pm From: Parq

I'll bet he's singing into one of those, um, whaddaycallit, oh yeah, microphones.

Thu. 8/13/09 2:59pm From: Jay from Scotland

Thu. 8/13/09 2:59pm From: jeff_m
